From the Principal’s desk Formal Hard to believe that another Formal has come and gone signalling that the year is nearly at an end. All our Year 12 students did themselves, their families and Kyogle High School proud with their dress and the way they conducted themselves on the night. Huge thank you to Jenny Imeson, Mary Thompson and Shelley Edmunds for the work they put into planning and executing the beautiful room (and cake) for our students. Houston The students are busy with the fund raising for the Houston trip. There are currently raffle tickets on sale with 1st prize a night for 2 at the Ramada Ballina, 2nd prize $100 Bunnings Vouchers, 3rd prize a gift basket from Slater Farms—tickets can be purchased through the Front Office. On 2 December a Bunnings BBQ will be held in Lismore—please support this truly Kyogle BBQ with Stuart Bros sausages and Dave’s Bakehouse Bread! Uniform Kyogle HS prides itself in having an affordable and easy to wear uniform. Unfortunately there is a small number of female students who wear exercise pants. Please support the school by ensuring that students are wearing the tartan skirt, black shorts or black pants. Planning for 2018 and Beyond We have started our evaluation and planning for 2018-2020. Within the next 2 weeks a very simple survey will be emailed home to gather feedback on how we are currently performing and areas for discussion for future directions. I do appreciate that we are time poor but taking the time to complete this survey will be greatly appreciated. Semester 2 Awards Assembly Save the Date—12 noon Friday 8th December for the Academic Awards Assembly.

From the Deputy’s desk Welcome to this issue of the KHS newsletter.
On Friday 20th October we successfully launched our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) program. After many
months of detailed planning and organisation across not only KHS but our Kyogle Community of Schools, and with
input from teachers, students and community members, I am proud to celebrate the launch. The PBL Program has
emphasis on positive expectations reinforces the value of relationship, communication, expectation and self-respect.
The first areas in 2017 that PBL will concentrate on are ‘all settings’ and ‘classroom’. Under the expectations of ‘be
safe, be respectful, be a learner’: our positive expectations to be embedded into the school are:
It is hoped that the benefits of a concentration on Positive Behaviour for Learning will include improved educational opportunities, better communication, greater reward and a unified expectation at KHS for all members of our community. I look forward to this rewarding journey!

RRISK
Last Friday, all of Year 11 travelled to SCU to attend and participate in a Reduce Risk Increase Student Knowledge seminar. RRISK is a health promotion program that addresses risk-taking behaviour amongst Year 11 students in the Mid North and North Coast of NSW. First developed in 1999, the RRISK program has grown rapidly in response to demand, initially involving 300 students from 9 high schools and now attracting over 4900 students from 58 schools across northern NSW from Tweed Heads to Port Macquarie.
RRISK is a resilience building program that is relevant to the social life, developmental stage and concerns of adolescents. It extends the school based drug education and road safety curriculum by providing opportunities for senior high school students to develop knowledge, attitudes and skills to reduce risk taking and develop safer celebrating strategies.
Students had the opportunity of listening to celebrity drug and alcohol expert Paul Dillon and a range of other presenters from sectors of the community that support positive adolescent behaviour and decision making in an effort to inform students and save young lives. Mr Raz - RRISK Coordinator
Student Representative Council Last week, the SRC participated in the ‘Community Conversation’ run by Kyogle Youth
Action (KYA). Here we were able to voice what kind of community we want to be a part of,
about some of the challenges we face living in Kyogle, and where we see
ourselves as a young person in our community.
We would like to thank Chris Hutton from KYA for this valuable opportunity.

New Direction Program Presentations!
On Thursday the 30th of November, our Year 10 students will be presenting their portfolios to a panel consisting of teaches, students and community members. The presentations are a culmination of the efforts the students have been putting into their 'hubs' or meetings each fortnight with Mrs Raz to create a portfolio that reflects them as both a student and an individual. Students will be presenting school work, projects, assessment tasks, special interests, and future aspirations that they have produced and reflected on over the course of 2017. Presentation day is also a fantastic opportunity for the school community to celebrate what our students have achieved in their last year of junior school before becoming a senior next year. Students that have completed the program as well as attended the presentation day will also be rewarded for their efforts with a fun excursion! Good luck to all of our Year 10's with their portfolio presentations and we wish you well as you transition to Year 11 in 2018.
