Mission StatementAt Dawlish Primary School, we believe that all pupils deserve high quality education which engages, inspires and challenges; so that everyone meets their full potential. To develop a solid understanding of the different sounds which make up words.

Year 1s have a phonics test in May, segment and read words and non-words e.g. vlop.

Children who do not meet the threshold in year 1 will continue to have support and be re-assessed in year 2.

SATS Year 2Children who did not meet the threshold for Year 1 phonics will re-sit in the summer.

Children will be assessed under the new curriculum in the summer term and details of this will be available nearer the time.

Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling also form a large part of the curriculum and will be assessed in the summer under the new curriculum.Reporting to Parents/CarersAutumn: Open evening October to discuss Key Skills and initial progress at the start of the yearSpring: Annual written report outlining achievement and progress in all areas. Home Learning Year 1Home Learning Project This half term the Year 1 Topic is Animals including humans. The children are encouraged to explore the things that make them special and why it is great to be them! With you assistance they are to:Design and decorate a special box that represents themselves. Inside their box, they will put 3 special items that are important to them.Include some writing which explains why the items are so meaningful. Share their box and items with the class.Hand in date: 5.10.2015

Home Learning Year 2Year 2 are studying The Great Fire of London this term. Information about the Home Learning Project has gone out with children but is also accessible on the school website.

Your role:Helping your child to research and discuss events.Helping with drawing a plan and listing resources to make 3D model.Assisting your child in making the model.Discuss titles and headings so that your child can write a short report.UniformPlease ensure that your child is dressed in the Dawlish school uniform each day.Shoes must be appropriate for play no party shoes, Ugg style boots or backless shoesEarrings -small studs or sleepers onlyHair ties plain elastics/ribbons. Healthy LunchesDelicious meals are available every day, cooked in our school kitchen.All meat is halal.Vegetarian and meat options are served every day.School meals are free for all children in Years R, 1 and 2.Packed lunches should not include sweets, chocolates or fizzy drinks.

Positive BehaviourPlatinum Pride programme.Every child begins the day on green.Positive learning and social behaviour choices lead to moving up the scale.Negative learning or social behaviour choices result in moving down the scale. Parents will be telephoned in the event of a red behaviour.The schools expectations are based on the principles in the UN Rights Respecting programme.
