Year 1&2: Pitta Pizzas & Weaving Year 1&2 have been busy weaving fabric mats and baking pitta bread pizzas on the fire. The session opened with a discussion about the 5 pieces of safety equipment needed for a fire and the children demonstrated good recall from previous sessions. The children helped to prepare, light and manage the fire. Recalling how to build a waffle lay and nest from previous sessions. Once the fire was lit the children split into 3 groups and rotated between activities. This allowed them the opportunity to feed and waft the fire, prepare and cook their pitta pizza and engage in weaving mats for the forest. The weaving activity was taught and led by our year 6 student mentors, who helped the children to develop their weaving technique. After a busy session of learning new cooking and weaving skills, the children were able to sit down and enjoy their pizza. At the end of the session, the children were able to describe the changes they had observed in the pizza as it cooked and in the fire as it burned and suggested whether these changes were reversible or irreversible. They were able to recognise that the fire gets bigger when it has more oxygen and it goes out when it doesn’t have any more sticks to burn. The children reflected upon what they found challenging during the session and considered how they overcame these challenges before finishing the session with the Forest School prayer.

Year 1&2: Pitta Pizzas & Weaving Year 1&2 have been busy weaving fabric mats and baking pitta bread pizzas on the fire. The session opened with a discussion about the 5 pieces of safety equipment needed for a fire and the children demonstrated

good recall from previous sessions.

The children helped to prepare, light and manage the fire. Recalling how to build a waffle lay and nest from previous sessions.

Once the fire was lit the children split into 3 groups and rotated between activities. This allowed them the opportunity to feed

and waft the fire, prepare and cook their pitta pizza and engage in weaving mats for the forest.

The weaving activity was taught and led by our year 6 student mentors, who helped the children to develop their weaving

technique.

After a busy session of learning new cooking and weaving skills, the children were able to sit down and enjoy their pizza.

At the end of the session, the children were able to describe the changes they had observed in the pizza as it cooked and in the

fire as it burned and suggested whether these changes were reversible or irreversible. They were able to recognise that the fire

gets bigger when it has more oxygen and it goes out when it doesn’t have any more sticks to burn.

The children reflected upon what they found challenging during the session and considered how they overcame these

challenges before finishing the session with the Forest School prayer.
