spelling rule? What other words do you know with this rule? Literacy A House of Her Own by Jenny Hughes & Jonathon Bentley Look at the book cover on the next page. In your books, write the heading: A House of Her Own - Prediction Write your own story for this cover. Who is in the story? What happens? Why does she need a house of her own? Draw an illustration for your story.

Watch the video of Dr McKirdy reading the book. After you have watched the

video, explain what the book is about to a family

member.

Grammar Verbs Verbs are words that tell what is happening in a sentence. There are different types of verbs. Action verbs describe the action that is happening e.g. I jumped over the puddle. In a space in your house or backyard, move around in different ways. Try to think of as many different ways as possible. For example, run, jump, hop. In your exercise book, write your verbs in a brainstorm or draw pictures of what you are doing and label. Choose five of your verbs and use them in sentences.

Writing Procedures Build a cubby house in your room or back yard. What did you need? How did you build it? Using the ‘Writing Procedures’ worksheet, create a step by step procedure to give instructions for how to make it. Take a photo of your cubby house and the completed worksheet and upload to

Seesaw.

Handwriting Do page 3 of your handwriting booklet. Make sure you are using a sharp pencil. 1 2,3,4 are your feet flat on the floor? 5,6,7,8 is your back nice and straight? 9,10,11,12 show me how your pencil’s held. Phonics Go for a ‘sh’ word hunt around your house and backyard. Look for words that have ‘sh’ in them. Create 3 columns in your book with the headings: beginning of the word, middle of the word, end of the word. Write down all of the words you know that have the ‘sh’ digraph in them.

Speaking and listening

Watch the video of Dr McKirdy reading A House of Her Own.

Design your ideal cubby house. It could be a treehouse, like Audrey’s, or any type of house you like. Draw a labelled diagram of your design. What are the features of your cubby house that make it ideal for you? Pick three features and explain why you have included them in your cubby house. You can share them during next week’s ZOOM meeting. Write down your ideas in your book so that you are prepared before the meeting.

Mathematics Warm-Up Using the dice you made in week 1, roll it twice to make a two digit number. Use that number as your starting number to count on by 10s. Time yourself counting for 1 minute and see what is the highest number you can reach. Repeat 2 times. Fractions Equal Parts Amelia and Anasta want to share a chocolate bar fairly between them. How could they do it?

Find a rectangular piece of paper. Fold the piece of paper to show how much they would get each. How would you describe what you have done?

When Amelia and Anasta looked at their share of the chocolate bar they said it was too much to eat. They decided to have some now

Mathematics Warm-Up The answer to the question is 125. Use any of these numbers to work out 3 questions to match the answer. 1,2,3,4,5,10,100 Fractions Recognising Fractions Fractions are equal parts of a whole. This means that all parts must be the same size.

Watch the video on Seesaw and complete the

Time yourself counting for 1 minute and see what is the highest number you can reach. Repeat 2 times. Fractions Sharing Pancakes Draw or write your answers to the following questions in your ‘Learning from Home’ book. It might help you to draw the people and pancakes for each question to show your working out.

1. There are 2 pancakes that need to be shared equally between 4 people. How could you do that?

2. If you wanted to share 3 pancakes between 2, how could you do it?

Mathematics Warm-Up The answer to the questions is 475. Use any of these numbers to work out 3 questions to match the answer. 1,2,3,4,5,10,100 Fractions Fraction Wall Find the fraction wall that is attached at the end of the framework. If you have a printer you can print it out. If you don’t, you can draw your own. Complete the fraction wall. Remember the denominator (the number at the bottom) is how many parts in the whole. Once you have completed your fraction wall you can glue it in your book. Underneath, explain why 1 1 8 is bigger than 4. You can give a real life example or draw a picture to help you explain your

Time yourself counting for 1 minute and see what is the highest number you can reach. Repeat 2 times. Fractions Make a pizza! In your book, draw a circle. This is your pizza. It needs to be big so should take up most of the page.

Using a ruler, you need to divide your pizza into eighths. This means you will have eight equal slices.

You now need to add the toppings (you will do this by drawing on your pizza slices).

Visual arts: Colour wheel 1. Watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGrGkJtSLsk (If you don’t have internet access, skip to Step 4!) 2. Write down 3 things that

you remember from the video.

3. Draw your own colour wheel. Remember to place the secondary colours in the gaps between the primary colours that are mixed to make them!

4. Now, your artist challenge is to make a found object colour wheel. Look for objects around your house that are different colours. Organise them into a circle in the correct order of the colours on the colour wheel.

Science Seedling Observation Look at your seedling. Answer the following questions in your “Learning at home” book. 1. Has your seed grown? Describe what you can see. 2. How tall is your seedling? Use a ruler to measure it. 3. Predict how tall your seedling will be next Tuesday. 4. Draw a labelled drawing of your seedling underneath your answers. Continue to water your plant and provide it with sunshine each day. The Tiny Seed Click on the link and watch the reading of the story “The Tiny Seed” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls6wTeT2cKA In your Learning at Home book, write the headings: • Winter • Spring • Summer • Autumn Underneath each heading, describe what happens in the story during each season. You can write your description or draw it or both!

Geography In your workbook write or draw everything you know about the weather. Watch this quick clip from ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs’ https://online.clickview.com.au/share?sharecode=65bb6f8c In your workbook answer the following questions:

1. In the clip what food did

you see raining from the sky?

2. What food would you like to see raining from the sky?

3. What are some good and bad things that could rain from the sky? Get creative!

Knowing about the weather is important, it affects us all. It helps farmers with knowing what to grow and when and it helps people every day to plan what to wear and do. Who else do you know it affects? What is your favourite weather and why?

PDHPE Watch the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0W86K1jBJFI In your books answer the following questions:

1. What rules did the mother set for Little Red Riding Hood?

2. What happened when she didn’t follow the rules?

3. Why are rules important? Write down one rule that you have at home or at school. What could happen if you do not follow that rule?

Take a photo of your work

Literacy

Watch the video of Dr McKirdy reading ‘A House

of Her Own.’ Similar and Different Draw a picture of Audrey’s family in the centre of one page of your book. On the opposite page, draw a picture of your own family. In both pictures, include all the people and things that are an important part of each family. All families are special and can be very different from each other. What things are the same about your family and Audrey’s? What things are different? Label the drawing of each family with things that are similar and different.

Grammar Verbs Verbs are very important words in procedures because they tell the reader what to do. When writing instructions in procedures, the verbs come first in the sentence.

For example, Put the ingredients in a bowl. Mix the ingredients.

Complete the Writing Procedures: Verbs worksheet.

Optional: Verbs also tell when something is happening: now, in the past, or in the future. This is called tense.

Procedures are written in present tense. Print out and play the tense game from TeachStarter: https://www.teachstarter.com/au/teaching-resource/simple-present-past-tense-match-cards-regular-verbs/

Writing Procedures When writing procedures, we need to include the following parts: 1. A heading (what you

will be making or doing) 2. Materials or ingredients

you need 3. Step by step

instructions in order 4. Optional: A conclusion

(what is the result or what to do now).

Think: Can you find examples of procedures around your home? Recipe books, instruction manuals, information on food packets.

Do: Cut out and paste the How to make pancakes procedure worksheet into your book in the correct order.

Label each part of your procedure with the labels: Heading, Materials, Instructions, and conclusion (if you have written one).

Write your own procedure Think of something that you

Mathematics Warm-Up The answer is half. What might the question be? Fractions Equal parts of a collection Zayd has brought his car collection to school for himself and Kiran to play with. Zayd has 20 cars. How can they divide the cars into equal groups so they will both have the same amount? How many

Mathematics Warm-Up Pick a number between 1 and 1000. Write a list of facts to help someone guess your number. Example: I am a three digit number. I am an odd number. I can be shared into three equal groups. I am lower than 300 but higher than 200. My digits add up to 11. I am half of 546. I am 273.

Mathematics Warm-Up The answer is a quarter. What might the question be? Fractions Recognising shared collections When recognising fractions of groups of objects, we must remember that fractions are equal parts of a whole. This means that all parts must be the same size.

Mathematics Warm-Up Pick a number between 1 and 1000. Write a list of facts to help someone guess your number. Fractions Fractions in the garden! Mrs Batman is checking the chicken hutch for eggs. She finds that half of the eggs are blue and half are white. Draw what this could look like and label it using fraction notation.

Mathematics Warm-Up The answer is an eighth. What might the question be? Fractions Word problems There are 12 people in Ms Murphy's class who are getting stickers. Read through the information and work out how many kids are getting each sticker.

will they have each? Draw this in your ‘Learning from Home’ book. After Zayd and Kiran have been playing for a while, Stavros and Ajaye ask if they can play too. How can the 20 cars be divided equally between the four boys? How many cars will they have each? Draw this in your Learning from Home book. Extension: If Stavros brought his own car to add to the collection, could the cars still be shared equally? Why? Why not? Write your answers in your ‘Learning from Home’ books and show your working.

Fractions Watch the Fractions of Collections video on Seesaw. When we divide a collection of objects into 2 equal parts, we call each part a half.

Start with 2 marbles. Divide the marbles into 2 equal groups. How many in each? Draw them in your book. Example:

1/2 of 2 is 1

Now, try sharing 4 marbles equally into 2 groups.

1/2 of 4 is 2

Can you see a pattern forming? Continue the pattern in your book as far as you can go.

When we divide a collection of objects into 4 equal parts, we call each part a quarter.

This time, start with 4 marbles and divide them

Print out the worksheet attached to the bottom of the framework. Follow the instructions to complete the sheet, then paste into your workbook.

After collecting the eggs, Mrs Batman counts the chickens. There are 8 chickens in the hutch and ¼ of them are black. How many are black? How many are not black? While the students and teachers have been at home, the strawberries at the patch have grown! Mrs Batman finds 24 strawberries that she would like to share equally between 8 teachers. How many strawberries would she give to 1 teacher if she was giving them ⅛? Show your working.

Information ½ of the class chose a blue sticker ¼ of the class chose a yellow sticker The rest of the class chose a pink sticker. Draw the stickers and work out: 1. What fraction of

children chose the pink sticker?

2. How many children chose the blue sticker?

3. How many children chose the yellow sticker?

Extension: If the students got their stickers ½ an hour after school started, what time would they be getting their stickers?

equally into 4 groups. How many in each?

1/4 of 4 is 1

In your book draw 8 marbles and divide them equally into 4 groups. Don’t forget to write the equation underneath. Try again with 16 this time. What do you notice?

Extension: Find a collection of objects in your home (pegs, toothpicks, biscuits or toys) and divide them into halves and quarters.

Visual Arts For these 2 weeks we are learning about fractions! The video below is a tutorial from an artist who teaches you how to draw a face, using fractions to mark where the eyes, nose and mouth should sit on a face. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XsTkEXr2qo If you can’t watch it online, here are the instructions: 1. Draw an oval for the

face

2. Mark ½ way down the face. This is where the centre of the eyes go.

3. Mark ¼ from the bottom of the face. This is where the centre of the nose sits.

4. Mark ⅛ of the length of the face. This is where the mouth goes.

Science Seedling Observation Look at your seedling. Answer the following questions in your “Learning at home” book. 1. Has your seed grown? Describe what you can see. 2. How tall is your seedling? Geography Weather and Seasons Stand outside and act out how you would feel if you were standing in different weather conditions. For example: Imagine it is sunny and pretend to put on a hat and sunscreen. Imagine it is cold and pretend to be rugged up in a warm coat. You might hug yourself to keep warm! Other weather conditions to act out: raining, windy, stormy. Now it’s time to think about the typical weather we have in each season in Australia. In your Learning at Home book, rule a page into 4 sections.

Summer Autumn

Winter Spring

Add these headings to each section: “Summer”, “Autumn”, “Winter”, “Spring”.

PDHPE Create an obstacle course around your house or garden. Come up with different movements you can do in different places. Write down the instructions for your obstacle course and then complete it yourself. You can also challenge someone in your family to complete it. Example: 1. Do 5 star jumps next to

the sofa. 2. Hop to the tv. 3. Then do 10 sit ups. 4. Skip to your bedroom. Do 12 frog jumps.

Play with playdough.

Take a break from Seesaw today. There are

no upload activities for you to do on Seesaw

except to mark the roll.

these rules to draw different facial expressions: e.g. happy, excited, sad, angry.

In each section, draw a picture of: 1. The weather in each

season 2. The types of clothes

you would wear in that season

For example, in the Summer section you could draw green leafy trees, a sun, a hat, sunglasses and a bottle of sunscreen. .
