Spiritual Reflection

For today and tomorrow’s Spiritual Reflection, we want you to think back to all of our school’s Christian values and the stories we have looked at and the messages we have thought about during our Home Learning. Your task is to create a piece of art, a short poem or a short message to others by choosing either your favourite value or story. You can send your work to Mr Murphy on the Year 6 email address ([email protected]).

English LO: I can research

an event and make notes

Look back at your previous home learning tasks and videos to remind yourself about The Great Fire of London. There are some other links that you might also like to have a look at. Warm: Add three or 4 words under each sub-heading to help guide you with what you might write about in your leaflet. Hot/Spicy: Add three or four short sentences under each sub-heading to help guide you with what you might write about in your leaflet.

Maths LO: I can measure

temperature in degrees Celsius

Starter: Watch this video which shows how important measuring temperature is. https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/skillswise/temperature/zh4ghbk We can measure the temperature of things using a thermometer and in England we measure temperature in a unit called Degrees Celsius. This is what it looks like! Water boils at 100 degrees!! Activity: Warm: Write the temperature shown on each thermometer. Hot: Draw the temperature on each thermometer! Use a ruler. Remember:

• What numbers can you see?

• Are they going up in a times table?

• Are there any lines in between?

• Test out whether you scale is going up in 1s, 2s, 5s or 10s.

Spicy: Challenge questions comparing temperatures.

PE Complete these gymnastic balances (see the pictures below) Hold each balance for 20 seconds. Then make up your own balance routine. If you have a sibling, can you create some partner balances?

Computing LO: I can consolidate my knowledge about

the Great Fire of London.

Use the link below to play a game about the Great Fire of London. http://www.fireoflondon.org.uk/game/

Science LO: I can explain the process of recycling

and why it is important

Have a hunt around in your bins at home and see what items go into which bins. You may already have recycling bins that have symbols on the front to help you. (Remember to wash your hands afterwards). Look at the ppt that explains what happens to recycling once it has been collected. What really happens to the plastic you throw away?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6xlNyWPpB8 Activity: Warm: Create a table and stick the attached pictures and sentences in the correct order. Hot and Spicy: Write a short story about a day in the life of a plastic bottle. Use the warm pictures as support.

RE LO: I know what The

Lord’s Prayer teaches Christians

We are continuing to look at The Lord’s Prayer and this week we are focusing on the lines – ‘And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.’ What do you think temptation means? Temptation is the desire to do something which we know we shouldn’t – making a bad choice. We might be tempted by sweets, too much screen time, taking things that don’t belong to us etc. Have you ever been tempted to do something? Mind map things people may be tempted by. Write a short prayer asking God to forgive you for the times when you may have felt tempted to do something you shouldn’t. Illustrate/decorate your prayer afterwards.

ART LO: I can create a

collage of the Great Fire of London

Watch the video clip of the Great Fire of London. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weEveQ4nz4g You are going to recreate the Great Fire of London using the art of collage. Collage is the process of gluing and assembling various materials to a flat surface. Use whatever materials you can find in your home (tissue or coloured paper, newspaper, card) and cut or tear into strips. Place the strips on top of each other so that they look like flames. Use black strips of paper and place these over the coloured strips to create the Tudor houses. Look at the image below to get some ideas.

Non-negotiables for writing

• Capital letters

• Finger spaces

• Full stops

• Spelling words using phonics – this means your child’s spelling is highly unlikely to be perfect! This is what we are looking for when we see your child’s work

• Correctly spelt common exception words

• Cursive handwriting

Reading: Reading a book is still a requirement in addition to this timetable – Remember to predict, question, summarise and clarify. Remember to draw upon your phonic knowledge and sight vocabulary. For Year 2 we are giving an additional reading task. We have attached a text below. Monday- Read the text and write down any words you do not know that will need to be clarified Tuesday- Re-read the text and summarise either verbally or written. If you are going to write, summarise in two-four sentences Wednesday- Answer the comprehension questions about the text Thursday- Check your comprehension questions and go over the ones you found tricky
