Internet Risks and Dangers
Children and young people spend a lot of time online – it can be a great way for them to socialise, explore and have fun. But children do also face risks such cyberbullying or seeing content that's inappropriate.
Children and young people may chat or become 'friends' with people on social networks or online games, even if they don't know them or have never met them in person. This makes children vulnerable to bullying, grooming and sharing personal information.Children in the UK have the 2nd highest number of social networking contacts in Europe:26% of children had between 100 and 300 'friends'16% had more than 300 'friends'
Home LearningHome Learning• The children will receive weekly spellings which they will need to
learn. Given out on Monday (also on Website) and tested on a Friday.
• The homework activities will take a variety of forms and will relate to work taking place in the classroom.
• Half-termly projects may also be set relating to themes throughout the year
• Every pupil will have a class reading book. This should go home every day along with their reading record. Teachers will make comments in these after Guided Reading sessions with children and parents are encouraged to add their own comments about their child’s progress at least once a week. Children must comment on their own independent reading, a minimum of three times a week which parents must sign at the end of the week.
Attendance
Attendance at school is important as there is a clear link between attendance and academic performance.
The government has changed the threshold for persistent absence to 90%.
Leave of absence requests should be made prior to booking as Penalty Notices will be issued for unauthorised leave. Holidays will not be authorised without exceptional circumstances.
Parents/carers must telephone the office daily to explain the specific reason for any absence.
