Denefield School SUCCESS FOR LIFE
Year 6
Transition Activity Booklet
Name:
Welcome to Denefield!
We are very excited that you will be joining us in September.
It is really sad that we are not going to see you as much as we would like before then, but we still want to
make sure you are as prepared as you possibly can be.
We have put this booklet together to help you get to know us and help you get ready for your big adventure
at secondary school. This activity booklet is packed full of fun materials, information to help you
understand what is expected of you, and some acitivites we would love you to complete and bring with you
on your first day to help us get to know you better too.
Good luck!

Our expectations
This is how we do it here
Our students will
1. Follow staff instructions
2. Not interrupt learning
Our staff will 1. Meet and greet our students 2. Use the stages to ensure learning and
safety 3. Give their first attention to good conduct 4. Not argue, but give a reminder, “This is
how we do it here”
CHARACTER values
Confidence
Happiness Articulacy Resilience Ambition Courage
Tolerance Empathy Respect
Stages for good conduct
Stage 1 Verbal reminder
Stage 2 Final reminder
Stage 3 Removal from the lesson
Students are collected from their classroom and complete their work in a different venue.
Students who are removed must attend their
repair meeting with their teacher.
Respect at social times
Staff on duty will recognise and
reward good conduct during social
times and in corridors.
This is not how we do it here:
Lazy or direct swearing
Play fighting
Being in unsupervised areas
Unfair or dangerous play
Disrespectful language
At Denefield we care
1. We care about our students 2. We care about our staff 3. We care about learning
We are a mobile-free school
Phones are switched off and in bags from the moment students enter the school gates to the moment they leave the site. Headphones cannot be visible at any time. Phones will be confiscated and collected by parents if they are seen by staff.
Uniform
Go to http://www.denefield.org.uk/Parents/Uniform. Find out what school uniform you will need to wear and
draw a picture in the box below.

Extended learning
At Denefield School we call homework ‘extended learning’. We set all our extended learning online using a
web-based platform called ‘Show My Homework’, SMHW for short.
Why don’t you have a look to see what it looks like?
https://denefield.satchelone.com/school/homeworks/calendar
If you select Year 7, and put the calendar date back to September and October 2019, you can pick a
subject and see the types of homework you will be set.
When you join us in September you will be given your own personal login, and you will see all your own
assignments.

For lunch I am…
Where do I need to be and when?
We will be sending you a map of the school separately. Either print and stick, copy and paste, or draw the
map of the school in this space. When you get your timetable, see if you can find all of your classrooms
and shade them in. Use a different colour or pattern for each subject.

What will my timetable look like?
The letter tells you if it
is week A or B.
The number tells you
what period it is.
The three letter code is
the teacher.
For example, MRN is
Mr Robinson.
The letter tells you which building
your lesson is in and number tells
you what room it is in. If it starts
with a 1 it is on the ground floor, if
it starts with a 2 it is upstairs.
For example, P205 is in the Piaget
building, upstairs.
You can fill this in once you have found out which house you are in and you have your
timetable.
My tutor is called…
The house I am in is…
The subjects I will be learning are…
I think my favourite subject will be…
My Head of House is…
My Deputy Head of House is…
My Student Manager is……
I can find the house team at…
I need to bring my PE kit to school on these days:
Keeping safe
As you move up to secondary school, you may be lucky enough to have your own mobile phone and you will
probably start using the internet and apps more, if you haven’t already.
It is really important that you know how to keep yourself safe online. At Denefield, our priority is to keep you
safe and for you to be happy and, whilst we do not allow mobile phones to be used on site during the school
day, we know that they are brilliant at helping you with work, research and keeping in touch with friends and
family.
Here is a great website with activities to support you in knowing how to keep safe, and knowing what to do if
you are worried or concerned:
https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/11_13/
or
https://www.safe4me.co.uk/resources/ and click on the Primary School tab
We also have a student email that you can send messages to at any time for help. If you are worried or
concerned about yourself or someone else, if you want to tell us how to improve something or make it
better, or if something wonderful has happened that you would like to share, please send us a message to:
When you are at school, you can always see your tutor or go to student reception if you have any
problems, concerns or worries.
