TRANSCRIPT
We all have the innate
ability to think in a
variety of ways and we
can all get better.
Schools need to
connect different
thinking processes to
subject content .
To make the
connection, schools
need to give models
for students to grow
their thinking skills .

Students can change groups at any point in the year. This is done on the balance of classwork, homework and assessments. If your child raises setting, please emphasise that we put them where we think they will learn the most.
How can you support your child? Be positive about maths
• Encourage a growth mindset
• There aren’t people who ‘just can’t do’ maths
Practical discussions about everyday maths
• Shopping, interest rates, exchange rates, distances, recipes…
Ask them about what they are learning in lessons
Encourage them to use support when stuck
• Moodle and Leventhorpe Summaries
• Other websites, such as MrCorbettMaths
• Drop-in sessions in school
Talk to them about preparation for assessments

Parental Questions?
• How well is my son/daughter doing?
• What are their strengths?
• What do they need to work on?
• How and when will I get information on how they are doing?
New Leventhorpe Levels
• We no longer use National Curriculum levels to report achievement and progress…
• We are using a new Leventhorpe system based on numbers to link with the new GCSE grades…
• We will set targets based on Key Stage 2 tests as a starting point...
Leventhorpe Levels
• Based on numbers with a link towards final GCSE Grades 9-1…
• Each number split into three sub-levels e.g. 2:1, 2:2, 2:3
• Year 7 Grades range from 1:1 to 4:3
• Year 8 Grades range from 1:1 to 5:3
• Year 9 Grades range from 1:1 to 6:3
• Year 10 and 11 Grades will reflect actual GCSE number grades
• Good progress will be one whole number grade per year…
The Journey… Expected Progress Paths for Students
Based on Key Stage 2 Tests
End of Year 7 End of Year 8 End of Year 9 End of Year 10 End of Year 11
Steve 4:2 5:2 6:2 Grade 7 Grades 8 and 9
Sarah 3:2 4:2 5:2 Grades 5 and 6 Grades 6 and 7
Doris 2:2 3:2 4:2 Grades 4 and 5 Grades 5 and 6
David 1:3 2:3 3:2 Grades 3 and 4 Grade 4
Growth Mind-Set
• Recognise it is a long journey…
• Lots can change over five years…
• Reports will enable you to see if they are ‘on-track’ given their starting point…
• All students can achieve e.g. some of our David’s are now in top Science and Maths sets heading for A’s and A*’s…
• If students drop below expected progress, we will discuss this with you and work out ways to help them improve…
When will I get information?
• In January…
• For Parental Consultations – 22nd March…
• For end of year reports…
Where do I get the information?
• Go4Schools
• Website used to publish reports and progress updates…
• Log-in via the website using the e-mail address we have been given by you…
• Discuss this in more detail at the next information
evening in January
How else can I understand progress?
• The reports are only a snapshot of progress…
• Workbooks from class contain much more detailed feedback and guidance…
• See Homework marks and comments…
• Guidance for improvement…
• Common to see WWW/EBI
• Talk to the students about their work… • Focus on praise and how to improve…
If there are questions and concerns…
• Two way process…
• We will contact you via subject teachers or tutors if we are concerned…
• You can contact subject teachers for specific issues…
• General issues such as homework or behaviour
should go to the tutor
Summing up…
• Conversations about school, work and progress are the most important…
• Two way communication…
• Look for praise opportunities…
• Help students to work productively at home…
• More details about Go4Schools and new Leventhorpe Levels on the school website… but don’t worry until January!
