We use different units of measurements for what suits the type of thing that you are measuring. For example you wouldn't measure a pencil in kilo meters

Q6. Choose one of the blocks of land and design a house that is no more than 180m2. On your A3 grid paper plot your house and land design. The house must have: a kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom (including toilet), a living area, a dining area, a laundry and car garage. Your house needs to be set back 5m from the front of the land. Room measurements and working must be shown.

Q7. You have decided to place an outdoor entertaining area in your back yard.

a) The deck is to measure 5m by 3m. It is made out of planks of wood that are 4m

by 75mm. How many planks of wood are needed? (Show your working out)

Q8. Two triangle-shaped shade sails are sewn together to provide shade. Each triangle has a base length of 6m and a height of 4m

b) At midday when the Sun is directly overhead, what area of shade will the sails

provide?

c) If the shade sails were sewn together in a different way, would this provide the

same area of shade at midday? Explain your reasoning?

d) Draw your outdoor entertaining area on your home design.

Q9. A driveway is to be poured from the front corner of your property to the

carport/garage. It is to be in the shape of a parallelogram.

c) What is the area of your driveway?

d) The concrete in your driveway is to be 55mm deep. What is the volume of

concrete needed to create your driveway?
