In order to promote these values, we have held a series of charity events and opportunities to fundraise for those less fortunate in London, and around the world. The year team have also seen a range of students win ‘student of the week’, and have been treated to a breakfast in Bealisimo with Mr Mooney. This term has been a great success for the Year 8s as there have been many school trips and individual achievements. As Ms Vadher proudly declared in assembly: ‘Year 8 are the group with masses of talents and performers’, and are always involved with every performing arts related activity or competition around the school. Overall, this term has been a huge success for the Year 8 team, and we are very much looking forward to Year 9! - Aliya Hussain 8FE What do students and teachers think of the Summer Concert? “The summer concert is great because all the hard work that goes in to it by the students and staff is amazing. Year 8 Summer Term Overview This term, Year 8 has been focusing on attending and trying new co-curricular clubs, as well as ensuring that we are promoting and encouraging ourselves to get involved with wider school events. In order to promote these values, we have held a series of charity events and opportunities to fundraise for those less fortunate in London, and around the world. THE EID GATHERING The Eid gathering took place on Thursday 29th June from 5:30pm- 7:00pm in the KS4 hall. It was an extremely fun night for everyone who attended. There were also many activities and competitions such as: a quiz on Islam, poems read, Islamic songs sung, Quran recitations and even a wrestling display! It was a really exciting event for everyone and this gathering takes place every year. It costs only £5, and in my opinion, it is definitely worth it! All of this would not have been be possible without the sixth formers and Mr Raja who organised the event really well. Liana Mirza 8BA mentioned: “The team put together an enjoyable, fun, and exciting event through their dedication and hard work to provide an entertaining night. They created fine Asian cuisine that everyone could enjoy and I am looking forward to the next one.”

The money donated through ticket sales and general donations will be given to Islamic Relief – Syria Appeal as a way of helping communities around the Globe at such a testing time.

This was a night to remember, if you didn’t come this year, why don’t you attend the Eid gathering next year? And maybe, you can even help organise it when you’re in the sixth form!

Drama Performance – Mystery of the Murder On Thursday the 6th of July the drama club performed a play (written by Ms Pryce, a Drama teacher) called the ‘Mystery of the Murder’. The performance was about a detective called Drake and his work partner Lirkel who is an accused criminal. The play was enjoyed by the students’ friends and family who went to watch it. The drama club trained hard for the performance every Thursday lunch time for many weeks to show their acting skills and their passion for drama. ‘I loved it. it was absolutely hilarious. My favourite character was Elizabeth Franklin’ Sam Benjamin Kaizer 8JP ‘I loved working on it, it was so much fun and we made a community. I would recommend it to anyone.’ Sabha Imran Chaudhary 8JP

King’s College Trip – Space Expo

On Friday 7th July my peers and I went to Kings College, University of London. The day was organised by the Institute of Physics and there were five other schools attending as well.

The trip was aimed at inspiring girls to take part in Science & Technology and to become Science ambassadors. When we arrived at King’s College we were split into groups with other pupils to encourage working with different people and improve communication skills. In our groups, we were taught a number of different Physics experiments that we could show to younger children to teach them about science.

King’s College Trip – Space Expo continued..

One of the experiments was to demonstrate the effects of taking of your helmet off in space. We took a small container of PlayDoh, made some holes in it and filled it with shaving foam, then placed that tub into a larger container which had a pump to remove the air. The pump was used to reduce the air in the large container thereby reducing the pressure around the PlayDoh container and the shaving cream started oozing out.

We also did an experiment with nappies where we removed some crystals from the inside. These crystals are very absorbent and turn to jelly when they come into contact with water. These crystals are used in MAGs (maximum absorbent garments).

Once we had done some more experiments we chose our favourites and tried to find ways to make it more interesting in a presentation and appealing to primary school students. We presented it to the other groups and received written feedback on what we did well and what we could have improved on.

It was a great experience and helped me learn a lot about Science and presentation skills.
