Course Objectives:

This course is an outcomes-based, English language enrichment course designed to develop and consolidate students’ skills in the areas of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Specific course objectives include: To encourage students to be active and constructive in their own learning, using English as a tool to

create meaning, seek knowledge, and to interact with others at school context and in the community. To extend students’ competence and confidence in using English in a range of challenging contexts. To integrate learning English with other areas of the College curriculum. To encourage students to become responsible, independent, reflective learners. To promote an atmosphere of collaboration and co-operation amongst students.

Teaching – Learning Materials and Resources

Student course book; workbook; support and assistance of Thai Language Teachers; flashcards; audio cassettes; supplementary video cassettes; materials to complete projects and activities (construction paper, coloured markers, paint etc.); overhead projector; television; video; cassette/CD player.

Students will read texts and listen to audio about different methods of communication. Students will talk about impressive things they have done, and discuss animal communication

Students compare past simple to present perfect simple.

Unit 2: A true friendStudent Book pages 14-21Who are your real friends?

Students will read texts and listen to audio about friendships. Students will retell stories, discuss loyalty, and discuss meeting new.

Students will study past simple, and past continuous. They will study time conjunctions; as/then/as soon as. They will study past simple and compare it to past perfect simple.

Unit 3: A working lifeStudent Book pages 24-31What do you want to be when you grow up?

Students will read texts and listen to audio about jobs and job interviews. Students will have conversations using how long; they will give advice, and participate in a job role-play.

Students will study present perfect simple and compare it to present perfect continuous. Students will study had better/should/ought to.

Students will read texts and listen to audio about long life, living forever, and what will happen in the future. Students will talk about things that make people live longer, stressful situations, and discussing future predictions.

Students will study future predictions; first conditional, if and unless.

Students will read texts and listen to audio about radio, television, films and other kinds of media. Students will talk about TV, films, books and websites.
