THE YEAR IN REVIEW The 2017-2018 year was busy for The Friends of Fort Lauderdale Library. We continued some favorite activities but also began some new initiatives. We covered all categories from the youngest children to those of us who are “vintage”, from the public to school children to library staff. And we couldn’t have done it without your support. Here is a bird’s eye view of what we did. SPECIAL EVENTS Chalk-Lit Festival January 13, 2018 More than 32 chalk artists participated in this first-ever festival meant to kick off this year’s Big Read program. They created beautiful art works based on literary themes on the north plaza of Main. The library was nominated for several awards for this program. Moonlight Tales February 23, 2018 This adult song and music cabaret has delighted the public for many years and was, as before, held outside in the evening in the north plaza. Host and local storyteller Caren Neile and storytellers Jon Spelman and Linda Ford kept the crowd captivated. Rock at Main After Hours August 3, 2018 Main Library became anything but quiet this Saturday night as attendees danced to the music of the 70’s and 80’s played by a local DJ. Music vendors offered vintage records and CD’s.
