Subject and teacher Schedule YEAR 10 -‐ IGCSE Geography Monday 19th 15:00-‐18:30 Links with IGCSE Curriculum
-‐ Show an understanding of overpopulation
-‐ Identify and explain inequalities between countries
-‐ The main features of an agricultural system The causes and effects of food shortages
-‐ Solutions to the problem of food shortages -‐ Changes to agricultural production -‐ Patterns of food production and consumption
Year 10 Geography Go the Arid Zone and find the Photographs displayed outside near to the Palestine and Jordan pavilions. Look at pictures and read the information in order to answer the questions below.
1. The Colorado River in Mexico a. This was once one of the richest fisheries on the west coast. Explain why this is
no longer the case. b. Using your general knowledge, state a reason why the Dams would have caused
the problems stated (think about what’s being blocked by the dam – not the water….something else).
2. Tekenket, Mauritania a. Describe what is happening in the photograph. If you have access to wifi, see if
you can find the Geography term used to define this process.
3. Mandara and Umm al Maa lakes in the Ubari sand sea. a. Explain why these lakes are drying up.
4. Karnasi Valley, Chad a. Explain why this land is mostly uninhabited. Make reference to the climate.

5. The Colorado River in Mexico c. This was once one of the richest fisheries on the west coast. Explain why this is
no longer the case.
d. Using your Geo knowledge of River Management explain why the ‘human
intervention’ into the river system has caused this problem.
6. Tekenket, Mauritania
b. What is the ‘Geo Key Term’ that describes what is happening in the photograph?

uninhabited.
Year 10/11 Geography
SUSTAINABLE FOOD = A FAIRER WORLD
1. Investigate changes that are occurring in agricultural production and how they can help to solve the problems of food shortages. Most Pavilions have information on this topic such as the USA/Ireland/Belgium pavilions. 2. Examine the social, economic, environmental causes and consequences of food shortages. Arid Zone activity and the pavilions mentioned above will also have information on this topic. 3. Reasons for water shortages and possible solutions. Please visit the Middle Eastern pavilions and the Arid Zone. 4. The relative costs and benefits of renewable and non-‐renewable fuel sources. The energy pavilion will be a good starting point here to research alternative energy sources.
YEAR 10 + 11 Coordinated Science: Biology Miss Doran Tuesday 20th October Links with IGCSE Curriculum B10: Energy Flow in Ecosystems
• Food chains • Effects of fossil fuels on the environment • Feeding relationships in ecosystems
B11: Human Influences on the ecosystem
• Effects of pollution • Conservation of biodiversity • Conservation of resources • Effects of greenhouse gases
Part 1: Biodiversity Pavilion (Storie di Biodiversità) Start at Area 01 and work your way in order around each of the sections.
1. What is biodiversity?
`
2. Give 3 examples of how technology has been used to increase food production. One of these
should include an example of genetic engineering.
3. What is special about the years 2011-‐2020? What are scientists hoping to achieve.
Part 2: The Monaco Pavilion
1. Find the jellyfish display. You will have probably noticed the large number of jellyfish in and around Monaco over the last year. From this display, find out
a) Which species of jellyfish is most likely to be found in the waters around Monaco (use the
touchscreen display). There may be more than one.
b) The key identifying features of a jellyfish. A diagram may help here…
c) The likely reasons for the increasing numbers of jellyfish observed in Monaco.
2. Find the ocean acidification display. a) What is the main cause of Ocean acidification?
b) What could be the possible consequences?
d) What schemes have been introduced in Monaco to reduce the Principality’s environmental
impact (you may also want to use your own knowledge and experience for this question.
Part 3: The UK Pavilion
1. What problem is facing bees, both in the UK and globally?
2. Label the key features of a honey bee on the picture below:
3. What measures are needed to help to conserve bee populations?
4. Speak to one of the guides when you get to the centre of the pavilion What is special about the orb at the centre of the pavilion?
YEAR 10 /11 Coordinated Science: Physics MRS CHISHOLM Tuesday 20th October Links with IGCSE Curriculum P3.3: WORK
• Describe energy changes in terms of work done • Recall and use W = F X d
P3.4: POWER
• Recall and use the equation P = E / t in simple systems
Instructions
• Go to the Estonian pavilion • Try the swing that shows the power output as you swing. • Answer the question sheet on power.
YEAR 10 / 11 Coordinated Science Chemistry Ms Taouche Tuesday 20th October from 10am to 1pm Links with IGCSE Curriculum C9 The Periodic Table + C4 Stoichiometry
