    Saturday 28Coffee MorningTo start the year the FOTMheld a fund raising coffeemoring at the home ofchairman, Mrs Vivien Davies.£192 was made from the saleof tickets, bric-a-brac, raffleand cakes. The mayor, CllrStewart Gardiner, and hisconsort, Cllr SimonHutchence, attended andhelped with the raffle. Themain prize of beautytreatment was donated byRoberta of King Street,Knutsford.

    Sunday 29RSPB BirdwatchThe Knutsford Ornithological Society and the FOTM met on the Moor to take part in theRSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. Tony Usher and Derek Pike from the Ornithological Societylent their expertise and were helped by FOTM members Jan McCappin, Janet Bates andVivien Davies. The birds were observed between 11am 12 noon. 239 birds of 30different species were counted and Tony Usher commented on the number of songthrushes that could be heard singing.

    Sunday 19Pancake RaceThe Friends of the Moor PancakeRace was well attended on a brightbut very cold day. The Lions helpedmarshall the event and we had racesfor adults and children with medalsbeing given to the winners andsweets for everyone else. PCSO ClareShepherd and her colleaguesattended in case of accident or injuryand a good time was enjoyed by all.

    Sunday 25Litter PickIt was a beautiful day for ourspring litter pick which wasattended by seven of ourmembers. We approached theCheshire Wildlife Trust to litterpick near the reed beds and weregiven permission to litter pick justat the edges because of nestingbirds. Eleven bags of litter werecollected leaving the Moor lookinga lot better.

    Wednesday 4AGMThe Chairman was anticipating becoming thenew Town Mayor the following month andso decided to relinquish the reigns of thegroup. At the AGM the Friends electedStewart Gardiner as their Chairman for theyear. Since the new Chairman was himselfMayor at the time it was agreed that VivienDavies would continue to act as Chairmanuntil the Town Council’s AGM in May.

    Sunday 29Rotary Club Annual JogThe heavy, driving rain did not deter thenew Chairman from joining many childrenand a few hardy adults in running severallaps of the Moor; which seemed to besporting a few extra water features; as therain fell and flowed down the path fromMiddle Walk.

    During May the Friends of the Moor spenttheir time preparing for the Street Fair onBank Holiday Monday, which took placeduring the Jubilee Weekend, and theEmbrace the Games event.

    June 2012

    Monday 4Lions Street FayreRobert’s String-pull Game proved a welcomeattraction for all the young of heartattending the Fayre; which turned out to bethe sunniest day of the weekend and we soldbric-a-brac also and made a fair amount toadd to our coffers.

    Wednesday 6Embrace the GamesOlivia Hunter, Jan McCappin,Cherry Robertson and JaneCartmel helped children makeOlympic-themed items on theFriends’ craft stall.

    June was a busy month for the Friends of the Moor. On 3June plans for a Big Picnic on the Moor fell foul of theJubilee weekend wet weather and although the Chairmanturned up he ended up taking his picnic home to eat inthe dry.

    Wednesday 1National Play DayDespite the threat of rain, the Friends, helped by Members of Knutsford Lions and twoofficers from Cheshire East’s Sports Development Team, organised children in avariety of sports including football and rounders. Additionally there was a chance forchildren to have their faces painted, have a go at some craft work, sit on a fire engineor play with the police siren and even sit on the Mayoral Throne to have a photographtaken. A sharp shower did call time on the event about half an hour ahead of time buteveryone who took part left with a smile and fond memories of the afternoon.

    Saturday 28Litter PickThe Friends joined with Town Councillors andsome members of public on a Litter Pick onthe Moor and its immediate environs as part of“Spring Clean for the Queen” event.

    Sunday 29Mayoral ParadeVivien as the Town Mayor started her MayoralParade from the Moor and visiting dignitariesjoined locals as we marched through theTown.

    Wednesday 19Green Flag AwardThe Friends having secured the Green FlagAward for the fourth Year running, held aceremony to raise the new flag and those whoattended marked the event with a picnic lunch.

    October 2012

    Members carried out the Half –Year Survey ofpeople using the Moor, which showed people werestill very happy about the Moor, though there wasmention that the play equipment could be updated toprovide more for older children.

    November 2012

    Tuesday 20Fat BirdsThe Fat Birds were unveiled by the Mayor toreveal their newly painted plumage, followingthe problems they’d had keeping their mosaictiles. They continue to attract the welcomeattention of the younger children.

    Wednesday 5Committee MeetingThe Committee meeting reviewed anothersuccessful year, discussed the programme for2013 and discussed the construction of theproposed shelter; whilst enjoying mince-pies andcake ahead of the Festive Season.

    Friday 30ReindeerThe Moor provided a grazing area for the reindeerwaiting to pull Santa’s Sleigh through the Town’sStreets in advance of the Christmas lights switch-on.
