The concept for the year book is pretty simple and split into two parts. The front external and the inter-nal. The external represents unity and the course as a whole.

The concept for the internal is the rule of 4. Being the fourth graduating year, all the rules concerning type and image followed a strict rule based on the number 4.

To achieve these the front cover contained every member of the course’s face blended into one face, this represents that we are more than just individuals we are a year group that has helped each other by inspiring and improving one another to become the designers that we are when the yearbook is pub-lished.

The rule of 4 is applied through the year book with the grid being divisable by 4. 12 x 12 grid with 4 mm gutter and 8mm margins. Each student is allowed 4 photos and each visiting professional 4 words to sum up the course.

GRID SPECIFCATION

The grid we chose to use was based on the rule of four. The grid itself is a 12 x 12 column grid with 4mm gutter and 8mm bleed. Each of the 3 pictures is 60mm x 60mm, keeping with the concept.

The design direction we went for was a primarily minimal one. We chose the colour orange as the three previous yearbooks used primary colours in yellow, red & blue. We chose a secondary colour in orange. The book is standard CMYK printing to keep cost down, with no spot colours or finishing. This will be explored if budget allows.

DESIGN TEAM:

The concept for the year book meant that every 4 pages there would be a breaker page, to keep in with the concept of 4. On these breaker pages there would be either quotes from tutors and professionals or images of the course facilities.
