YEAR 9 (outline of course ie units covered and links to final assessment) 2013-14 Students cover a range of units that are designed to re-enforce the skills required to complete GCSE assessments in Year 10 and 11. The units covered will include: studying a novel, independent reading, poetry, Shakespeare, key literacy skills, spoken language study and contemporary drama.

YEAR 10 (outline of course ie units covered) 2014-15 Students will follow the English Language iGCSE course in Year 10. This involves three coursework assignments, three speaking and listening assessments and a final examination. Whilst the coursework and examination assess both reading and writing skills, the coursework is more heavily weighted towards writing skills and the examination is focused mainly on reading skills.

Some students may follow the Edexcel Level 1 award in Number and Measure to enable them to access the GCSE course for an attempt at the end of year 11

YEAR 10 (outline of course ie units covered) 2014-2015 Continuation of the year 9 course with completion of the GCSE course in June. After the GCSE exam most students will prepare for further study of mathematics by studying topics which slightly extend their knowledge above the requirements of the GCSE. These topics will also be chosen to help cement higher grade skills should a retake prove necessary in year 11.

Throughout year 9 students learn the core skills for the course that will enable them to progress through. Still Life, Observational Study. Students produce a range of observational drawings in their sketchbooks, to include a range of mediums. Students will investigate related contextual sources to inform their individual practice. Two final outcomes to be produced during project, demonstrating a broad range of skills, contextual influences and addressing each of the formal elements. RAMM Visit. Students will have the opportunity to put their skills into practice by drawing from observation on location. Students will collect a range of information in order to produce a final outcome with the RAMM theme throughout. Here students will practice painting techniques and learn about composition. The year consists of two final outcomes, one tonal and one colour. Relevant artists will be introduced at the relevant stages.
