Having heard about Chili Wili from

some friends, a couple of people

from work and i decided to raid the

place for lunch (they have 50% off

on 2nd entrée). Tucked away in an

unexpected locality of Dhoraji where

you mostly expect gola gundas and

gol gappays, Chili Wili was a real

discovery.

it is a small cozy restaurant with

bright orange and yellow walls,

which makes the place look really

cheerful. First, we were served

Nachos with salsa and they were the

crispiest nachos i’ve ever had. Salsa

was a little towards the tangy side, i

would have preferred it a little sweet

but nonetheless they were a good

start to an even better lunch.

While we enjoyed the nachos,

the waiter brought us our Chili

Wili Platter appetizer, which had

mozzarella sticks, finger fish, hot

chicken wings, and crispy ones

along with three dips. finger fish

were by far the best items in the

platter. Crispy wings were nice but

hot n spicy wings were average. The

quantity of this platter is enough for

two and just costs Rs240.

Then arrived our Chili Wili Beef

Burger, which was almost the same

size as a pan pizza and thicker than

a Big Mac. The thick juicy patty with

tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, and pickles

was fulfilling on its own. The fries

were long and yummy and coleslaw

really chilled and fresh. as soon as i

took a bite, the juices started flowing

from the steak and i forgot all about

cheese sticks and nachos. it was

better than any Big Mac or even beef

burger of Mr. Burger and barely cost

Rs300. at this point, our drinks (Blue

Colada, Strawberry Margarita, and

Fruit Punch) were also served which

were refreshing. My favorites were

the fruit punch and blue colada.

Charna IslandTo reach Charna island you can either contact ‘Karachi Diving center’ who will take you to the Mubarak village (about 45 minutes away) from where you need to take a speed boat to Charna island or you can consult Google map to take you there.

The village is quite charming and the countryside is beautiful. Once you arrive at the beach, a wooden boat powered by diesel engine takes you to the island. The boat is open so sunscreen, hat/cap/umbrella and sunglasses are a must. Once you reach the island, you can enjoy Scuba Diving, Barracuda Fishing, Swimming, Boating, The sight, The Greenery, Bar B.Q. and a lot more.

For Scuba Diving, the water near the island is still, visibility is good and there was lots of marine life.

Corals are limited, but appear to be growing. if you are a swimming enthusiast than for you Charna island is the place to be.

Dog Island

Can you believe we have water sports in Karachi and many of us didn’t even know about it! Dog island is situated near Korangi industrial area, about 10 minute ride from CBM, though the boat ride to the island is painfully slow (takes about 45 minutes) but definitely worth it!

You can plan the trip through “adventure Water Sports” an entrepreneurial venture. aWS package includes Jet ski ride,

Parasailing and tubing, crazy 8, speed boat, mangrove tour, boat house and beach stay. Lunch is available for a reasonable cost of Rs.500 and also tastes good. Complete packages start from Rs. 999 and if you take up all the activities listed above the package will cost you Rs.4500 per person.

Overall the trip is perfect for friends or family get together and excitement filled day at a very low cost.

ten things to do with your wedding photographer before you say “i do”...

1Find the photographer with the style you are looking for

Finding “the One” photographer can be

very overwhelming. The photographer

you choose must have the style you are

looking for and should be a pleasure to

work with. as Sam, who has been in the

photography business since 41 years,

suggests that it is essential to find a

photographer who is professional and

talented. a relatively new photographer,

Faahema concurs that being comfortable

with the photographer and someone

you think you can trust to preserve the

memories of the most important day

of your life is most important. Kashif

from K. Bridals regarding his style says

it really depends on the mood and the

genre of photography that he does.

When it comes to bridal photography, he

prefers to keep it as natural as possible.

wedding day is probably the most important day of a girl’s life. girls start planning for it since their date is fixed. however, when your wedding is over, what remains with you are the wonderful memories and some photographs to preserve those memories. So among the preparations being done for the wedding, finding the right photographer who is able to reflect those memories through his photographs is very important. One must think it can’t possibly be that hard... i live in Karachi; there must be hundreds of photographers to choose from. however, it is not that simple, to preserve such a special and unique day, you just cannot trust anyone. So we have devised a list of 10 things you need to check before selecting a photographer:

‘trans-arrival!!’BY FaTiMa aLi

Transformers 3- The much awaited

movie for this summer’s was a big

success as it captures every guy’s

dream; fighting robots, fast cars, square

jawed Soldiers, lots of action and an

exceptionally hot chick!

it kicks off with President Kennedy

authorizing a mission to put a man on

the moon to investigate Cybertronian

spacecraft crash in 1986.

at present, Optimus Prime finds a fuel

cell; he then travels to the moon where

he discovers a comatose Sentinel Prime

– former autobot leader – and ‘The Five

Pillars’.

Sam and retired Seymour Simmons

found photos of hundreds of Pillars

stockpiled on the moon which made

them realize that the Decepticons raided

long before the autobots mission and

intentionally left Sentinel and five

Pillars behind to lure the autobots

into a trap. But Sentinel betrays the

autobots, as he had made a deal with the

Decepticons to ensure the survival of the

Cybertronian race.

i’m not a Transformer’s geek so i liked

the movie. Bumble Bee was so lovable

he made me cry! also, the mini-autobots

were cute and hilarious. The story line

was much better than Transformers

2 - Revenge of the Fallen. But many

diehards saw major flaws like:

Rosie Huntington made Megan Fox

look like Charlez Theron.

Towards the end, the movie became

headache-inducing visually (especially

if you watch it on 3D), and needlessly

noisy.

The movie was punishingly long and

it could have done without the useless

relationships that had nothing to do with

the movie.

• Sam Witwicky’s (Shia LaBeouf)

confrontations with his annoying

parents were uncalled for, where the

humor was a bit below the belt.

• Jealous interaction between Carly’s

boss Dylan (Patrick Dempsey) and Sam

over Ms. i can only manage a pout, was

over-rated.

• Carly going to the Megatron trying

to trick him into saving Optimus Prime

made me roll my eyes all the way to the

back of my head that i ended up with

vertigo!

Overall the movie is designed to

amuse and entertain, not provoke an

in-depth analysis. You have to be the

kind who enjoys gigantic robots blowing

things up to really enjoy this movie.

BOOKS

Vince and JoyLove story of a life timeaUthOr: LiSa JEwELrEviEwEd By By ayESha Khan

One of my favourite books of all times!

Vince and Joy is a must read for anyone

who enjoys British chick-lit novels. i guess

it’s the sarcastic yet clever tone British

novelist use, which makes it a pleasant

read. Every character is so well explained

and easy to visualize. The book is a

reminiscent of British life style like going

to the pub any time of the day, roommate

culture even for people in their late thirties

and horrible, horrible jobs.

The book starts out with both Vince &

Joy as teenagers, on holiday with their

parents. Vince is a shy boy and Joy a Goth;

with disturbed parents, both falling in

love for the first time. Sigh, such sweet,

innocent love…But before they could

further their relationship, Joy’s father

made a go on Vince’s mom which made

Vince’s dad extremely mad obviously and

he punished her dad with well deserved

punches. Both Joy and Vince unaware of

what happened were torn apart when Joy

had to leave the next morning.

Fast forward 20 years the book accounts

the details of each of their adult lives. How

they meet other people, fall in love with

them and discovered how inappropriate

they were for them and at the same time

thinking about their first love. it was very

frustrating when both of them took ages to

realize HOW wrong their choices were.

The book’s main theme revolves around

life, love and destiny. i don’t want to give

out too much especially if you do plan to

read it. The best part of the book is that

it has a very satisfying ending and i must

add the cat character at the end of the book

gave the book a very cheeky touch. after

finishing the novel, i couldn’t stop smiling

and day dreaming for that whole day!

Despite its 500 pages length it was an easy

and enjoyable read and a must read for

those who want to just sit back and relax

with a book and a box of chocolates.

the great Book oF UnIVersIty lIFeBy rana USman

Just few more days to go! and the

graduation will be done. Looking back

at four years i still cannot believe, how

furiously time passed. For me, it was like

a blink of eyes. Everything is done; i will

be a graduate Engineer. WOW! Sounds

great? The journey was turbulent, full of air

pockets and memorable. Just to post few

thoughts on how it went! i made a plan to

write this.

First day of University!a guy raises his hand and asks “Sir May

i go to washroom?”, “This is university,

stop this school trend, you may leave class

anytime for anything” the teacher replied.

So this is how the washroom rule works

in University, WOW! This was liberating

to know. Most of my creed would excuse

themselves mid-class, never to return. a

proud tradition we preached practiced and

passed on.

Semester projectsDing Ding! “Net pe search kiya Project?”

Ding Ding ! “Yaad se Bold aur Underline

remove karleyen, pichli baar bhe pata lag

gaya tha k Wikipedia se uthaya hai”

Oh Okay! i learned the art of copy/paste in

university, it was never an issue unless you

don’t remove the bold and underlines.

Electronics Lab – a day before semester project submissionalmost everyone working in lab all

panicked and hurried. a guy starts running

and more like dancing goes to everyone

and asks loudly just near your ear

“1K ka resistor hai?”

No i don’t have 1K resistor but i wish i

could punch your face. Learn the etiquettes

to ask for something nicely in the first

place an at least bring all the components

of circuit.

teachersMet all kind of teachers, some were

extremely funny, some extremely serious,

some considered teaching as a punishment

to them. Students are always innocent

and brave enough to make a stand in front

of teacher. Similarly, a friend when not

convinced with the science of Differentials

Equations, asked

“Sir Book mein tou aisay likha huwa tha”

“Which book do you read?” teacher asked.

“Erwin Kreyszig ki advance Engineering

Mathematics”

“He is wrong, i’m right! He was only PhD,

i’m Post Doctorate” the teacher replied.

i wish i could tell you with due respect

that, Sir Erwin Kreysig is known to be

pioneer of mathematics, He authored 14

books, including advanced Engineering

Mathematics, he is not wrong, but your ego

is not letting you accept your mistake.

Seniorsif i don’t talk about the seniors today, it

will be injustice to the love they gave us.

i was amazed to see that students respect

seniors here like they respect their fathers,

it’s unbelievable but true. Seniors are

complimented for no reasons, they are

flattered for no reason, and they are told

that they are handsome for no reason. it

was a trend to ask seniors about the teacher

before registering his course. at most of

times they suggested

“Beta iss se course na parhna! Pichli baar

25 logo ka ‘F’ aya tha”

Most of them were always looking for a guy

having “Maachis”. at the end of the day!

Seniors helped us a lot with everything
