Cooperation with the European Center for Modern Languages

Cooperation between the YSULS Center for the Implementation of CoE Language Education Programmes and the Chair of Lexicology and Stylistics with the aim of determining the degree to which the manual on “Home reading” corresponds to the CEFR ideology. A report and a guide were made based on the outcomes of the expertise and introduced to the stakeholders for further discussion. /01.04.2012- 08.05.2012/

Participation of the Center’s representative in two workshops organized by the ECML within the scope of the project “A Framework of Reference for Pluralistic Approaches to Languages and Cultures” with the aim of implementing the pluralistic approaches in the Armenian educational context. /31.05.12-02.06.12, 21-23.11.12/

The YSULS Center for the Implementation of CoE Language Education Programmes in cooperation with the Chair of English Grammar and Phonology organized a roundtable for teachers of foreign languages devoted to the celebration of the EDL in Armenia.

The YSULS Chair of Pedagogy and FLT Methodology and the Center for Lifelong Learning held a joint conference devoted to the peculiarities of adult language learning.

Joint international workshop at YSULS September 10-11, 2013

The YSULS Center for the Implementation of CoE Language Education Programmes and the ECML held a joint international workshop on September 10-11, YSULS, Yerevan, Armenia.

The aim of the workshop was to introduce pluralistic approaches to the Armenian stakeholders and foster intercultural communication and plurilingualism through the implementation of modern teaching methods in the Armenian educational system.

The ECML experts Michel Candlier and Anna Schroeder-Sura conducted a series of workshops on the following topics: Awakening to Languages, Language Intercomprehension, Integrated Didactics, Learning to Learn and Intercultural Approach.

The participants of the workshop, over 70 people, were mainly school and university teachers and students, interested in disseminating the pluralistic approaches in their surroundings.

On September 26, 2013 YSULS Student Council and Center for the Implementation of CoE Language Education Programmes held a joint celebration of the EDL at the university.

The day before EDL stickers, posters, lanyards and pens were distributed to all the subdivisions of the university, which was a nice means to involve each and everybody in the celebration of this annual international event.

YSULS big conference hall hosted all the participants of the festival: administrative and pedagogical staff, students, etc. Throughout the festival the participants were reminded of the role, aims and importance of the day by means of speeches, presentations, songs of various nations introduced by the YSLU talented students.

Later on a roundtable on “FLTL in secondary and alternative schools” organized by the Chair of Pedagogy and Methodology took place.

Pre-workshop piloting within the FREPA project ECML Training and Consultancy for Member Sates

The YSULS Center for the Implementation of CoE Language Education Programmes held a piloting of teaching materials based on pluralistic approaches in secondary school N20 of Yerevan from March to April 2014. The aim of the piloting was to try to estimate the extent to which FREPA approaches could be implemented in the Armenian secondary education context. The materials chosen had to deal with the FREPA awakening to languages, integrated didactics and intercultural approaches + CLIL as other approach. The languages involved included: Armenian (as mother tongue and language of schooling), Russian, English, Arabic, French. The results of the piloting are in the process of discussion and consideration.

Overall aim: To enhance plurilingual and intercultural education in Armenia both at grassroot level /teacher trainers and classroom teachers/ and policy level/ curriculum design and reforms of educational policies in Armenia/:

Target groups and stakeholders: policy makers, teacher trainers, curriculum developers, school and university teachers of Armenian, Russian, English, French, German, student teachers from the YSULS Chair of Pedagogy and Methodology

Celebration of the European Day of Languages 2014, preparations

made by the Center for the Implementation of the CoE Language Education Programmes and the Student Council of “Brusov” university.

Cooperation with the ECML and Student Council with the aim of disseminating information about the Center’s activities and funds (CoE fund and Joseph Sheils fund) among the students and student teachers of the university, organizing joint events (discussions, roundtables, etc).

Encouraging the participation of representatives from Armenia in the ECML meetings and workshops.

Organizing dissemination seminars so that the participants of previous ECML workshops can share their experience.
