Principal’s News Western Australia Day
In the general busyness of life, we sometimes forget just how fortunate we are to be
living in a place as wonderful as Western Australia. Our holiday on Monday has been
set aside to celebrate all Western Australians, recognising our Aboriginal history, early
European settlers and the many from all over the world who have made, and continue
to make, Western Australia their home. It’s a day for each of us to reflect and celebrate all the great things
about our people, our lifestyle, our culture and our potential. I hope all families find time to relax and enjoy
this day together.
LifeLink Day This year LifeLink Day will be held on Wednesday, 6 June. Archbishop Costelloe has invited
representatives from every primary school to join him at Newman College Auditorium for the
launch of LifeLink 2018. All schools have been asked to bring cards they have created and
then to present them as a powerful and visual demonstration of our young people joining
together to help people in need. The cards made by our Yidarra students will be distributed to St Thomas
More Parish to be handed out to the parishioners on the Parish launch of LifeLink Day.
Our school raised $504.80 on the free dress day by bringing in a gold coin donation. The children from Pre-
Primary to Year Six were allowed to wear clothing in the colours of red, white or blue – which represent the
colours of LifeLink.
Money raised on this day will go towards the charitable works of the many LifeLink Organisations of the
Catholic Church which supports over 34 000 Western Australians annually.
Parent Presentation: Cyber-Safety Last Monday evening the school hosted a Parent Connect Evening event. Yidarra was fortunate to secure an
engaging and informative speaker from the Australian Government’s Office of the e-Safety Commissioner,
who spoke about digital safety. One thing that I would like to share with parents from the presentation, is that
the e-Safety Office can assist parents in regard to cyber bullying and has the power to pull down cyber bullying
statements from sites. I would recommend that all parents go to the e-Safety website at www.esafety.gov.au
and look at the wide range of helpful information that is on this website and take the Interactive Screen Smart
Parent Tour.
Thought for the Week Our faith should be our steering wheel, not our spare tyre.
Kind regards,
Carmel Costin Principal
