• The YIOP Extension is a flagship project for MRL and will make an important contribution to the WA economy.

• A recent study by AECOM showed:

Current Production

• The Carina Mine produces at a rate of 4.6m tonnes (FY2013 production)

• Ore is transported via rail to Kwinana Bulk Terminal for export to Asian steel markets.

• Recent investment of $70 million in rolling stock to support existing and future Yilgarn operations

• Six new locomotives and 382 purpose-built stainless steel wagons

• Provides MRL with greater control over entire logistics chain from mine to port

• Will boost production from 4.6 to 5.4m tonnes

• Yilgarn Bowling Club

• Goldfields Environmental Management Group Workshop

• Curtin University – Biodiversity Research

• Yilgarn Agricultural Show

• 3 year sponsorship agreements to support not-for-profit organisations in Western Australia

YIOP Extension Projects

• Will expand and extend the life of the existing operation

• Comprises J4, J5 and Bungalbin East ore deposits

• Overall mining area is small, being about 380 hectares of BIF ranges once all mining is complete (including Carina)

• J5 and Bungalbin East are located in the Mt Manning and Helena-Aurora Ranges Conservation Park

• Mining will only ever occupy a small fraction of Yilgarn ranges but miners understand that some ridges are important areas of biodiversity

• MRL is committed to working with government to ensure that exploration and mining activities are done in an environmentally responsible manner

• MRL is committed to achieving a balance between conservation and mining of BIF, and seeks positive relationships with stakeholders and the community

YIOP Extension – J4

• J4 is located about 100km NNE of Southern Cross in the Jackson Range

• Ore will be transported 120km to crushing and train load-out facilities at Carina

• Environmental approvals are well advanced with construction scheduled to commence in Q1 2015

YIOP Extension – J5 and Bungalbin East

• J5 and Bungalbin East are major iron ore deposits underpinning the YIOP extension

• The mining project has been referred to the EPA and awaits a decision on the level of assessment

• MRL is actively investigating opportunities to avoid, minimise and rectify potential impacts during the EIA process and in implementing the project

Biodiversity Modelling

• Partnership with Curtin University’s Environmental Biology Group

• Investment in biodiversity research to increase the value and effectiveness of biodiversity data in the Southern Cross subregion

• Application of biodiversity models to integrate biodiversity and environmental data to better inform decisions from pre-mining to rehabilitation and closure

• Will benefit WA by building understanding of its biodiversity resources and showcase approach towards a more integrated resource development process.
