When the Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra

takes the stage to perform two concerts featuring the music of composer John Williams, it will be the first time in over a decade. According to Maestro William Intriligator, the symphony has played John Williams’ mu-sic before, –there were performances in 1992, 1993, 1998, 2001 and 2003, –but, distinctively, this will be the first time Intriligator has had the opportunity to perform this music with the CSO. “I am so excited to per-form music from Star Wars, Harry Potter and other John Williams selections together with the CSO. It all started with the idea that, if we perform a concert of great film scores we might be able to attract more of the 30-40 year olds in Cheyenne, and in the region to come out and attend a concert.” Then, CSO management further devel-oped that idea adding the first-ever Family Matinee. Executive Director Lindsey Reynolds says the matinee is very important for the Sym-phony and the community, “we have worked very hard to develop access to a live sym-phony experience that will be suitable and fun for the whole family. During the event, kids and adults can wear costumes, interact with the Maestro, musicians and even get a hands-on experience

with instruments during the musical instrument petting zoo. This will be a wonder-ful educational opportunity, and, perhaps an introduction to the symphony for those who’ve never attended a CSO concert before.”

Maestro Intriligator says there’s a great deal of enter-tainment packed into both shows. “The evening concert will begin with the announce-ment of the Art In Music award winners.” (See CSO At A Glance for details). “We also thought having local dancers (from Act Two Stu-dios) perform to some of the music would be really inter-esting, since the film music is already the blending of sev-eral art forms, adding dance really creates lively synergy. This is also in recognition of a large memorial gift given

to the CSO from Elizabeth Tolerton.” In addition to the John Williams music, Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story and the world premiere of “My Name is Mitka,” by young composer Jordan Roper will also be

played on the night show.“Regarding the world premiere, I believe it is important for the orchestra to perform new music, keeping the repertoire alive and fresh. Star Wars, cont. He was in town visiting his parents, who live in Cheyenne.

He is a very talented, young composer, and when I learned the moving sto-ry of the Holo-caust survivor who inspired

this piece, I jumped at

the chance to do the world pre-miere. Since we are also per-forming the main theme from Schindler’s List, it ties in nicely with the concert program.” Both January concerts are set to live up to the advanced bill-ing of “Out-Of-This-World,” Intriligator says it’s a unique chance to hear music that’s re-

cently become classic. “John Williams’ scores for Star Wars and Harry Potter are now iconic new classics. We will feature those and other great Williams’ scores. In fact, I recently added highlights from Jurassic Park to the program, and now we have five decades of John Williams’ film scores represented in the concert: something from each decade from the 1970’s to the present. Pretty neat!” We certainly look forward to seeing you there! For ticket availability and more informa-tion, please call, 778-8561 or go to: cheyennesymphony.org

CSO’s Holiday Magic Concert Brings the Spirit of the Season to the Cheyenne Civic Center Stage Seasonal music favorites, local dancers and All-City Children’s Chorus are a big hit with the symphony crowd!

Families from all over the region and symphony patrons arrived at the December 10th Holiday Magic concert,

decked out in festive attire and the traditional concert event did not disappoint. Headliner, soprano soloist Elizabeth Montgomery gave an emo-tion packed performance which included sentimental seasonal favorites such as Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree and O Holy Night. Dancers from En Avant Dance Studio provided beautiful performances to the music of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker and a lively jazz tap routine to Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. The All City Children’s Chorus also performed beautifully with

Montgomery and the CSO, leaving the audience feeling awed by the amount of local and professional talent on one stage. Special thanks to our wonderful sponsor, Holly Frontier and everyone who helped create such a great performance.

LOVE THE LIVEEXPERIENCENEW SERIES in 2016-17continued from page 4 —

SNOWBIRD SPECIAL

Designed with seasonal residentsin mind, our new Snowbird seriesoffers a 3-concert package withevents scheduled in September,October and April. Enjoy the ex-citement of opening night withyour friends and the fun of ourseason finale ... and save 10% offthe price of single tickets.

TASTE OF THE SYMPHONY /SAMPLER SERIES

Ideal to those new to the clas-sical music scene, or for folks justmoving into the area, our new“sampler” series provides the op-portunity to try a few nights on thetown with the CSO. The packageincludes two programs sure toplease — Star Wars / movie musicand the music of Mozart andBeethoven. If you’ve got a friend

who’s been thinking of subscrib-ing but isn’t quite ready to makethe commitment to a full season, our “sampler” series may be justthe ticket they’re looking for. Besure to pass the word along! Salesopen to the public in mid-June.

NEW FACES IN THE HALL

As you may have noticed fromlooking at the concert dates, theSnowbird and Sampler seriescombine to form a full five-concertpackage. “Repackaging” concertsallows the CSO to better serve thechanging needs of our existing au-dience, but it also allows us to in-troduce the orchestra to newlisteners ... and ensure the orches-tra has an audience to perform be-fore for many years to come.

And that brings up a couple ofimportant points.

You might have some newneighbors to visit with next season. That’s terrific. Everybody likes mak-ing new friends and we know you’lldo your part to make our new au-dience members feel like part of theCSO family in no time at all.

REPACKAGING BRINGSNEW PRIORITIES, POLICIES

The second point is a bit lessobvious. Many single ticket buy-ers have been wanting to sub-scribe, but good seats simplyweren’t available. In other cases, the same seats weren’t an option.

With the introduction of twoshorter series, we anticipate thenumber of people ordering seatsfor our five-concert Classic sub-scription will increase substan-tially. That’s great news for peoplewho’ve been waiting for ticketsbut it means that if you choose todownsize your series holdingsfrom all 5 Masterpiece concerts toeither the Snowbird or the Sam-pler series, we cannot guaranteeyou’ll have the same seats nextyear. It’s simply a matter of supplyand demand. Subscribers who at-tend more concerts need accessto the best seats possible.

Our advice? If you love yourseats, but your schedule won’tallow you to attend every per-formance, renew your subscrip-tion at the Platinum or Classic

level. Those are the only two se-ries that come with a 100% guar-antee you’ll retain your currentseating. When you can’t attend, donate your tickets back to theCSO for resale to another patron. The orchestra will send you a re-ceipt for your gift and you’ll behelping someone who can attendthat evening enjoy the music ... allwhile retaining the seats you’vecome to love over the years.

Returning tickets you can’t useisn’t just good for your taxes, or forthe CSO. It shows you care enoughto make sure the best seats in thehouse aren’t empty when you’renot able to join us.

MULTIPLE SERIES REQUIRESNEW SEATING CRITERIA

These changes also impact ourseating priorities. Here’s theprocess we use to fulfill ticket or-ders: All renewals are stampedwith the time and date as we re-ceive them. Orders are then sep-arated according to series, and inthe order renewals were received.
