California is to expand the capacity of young people and organizations in California to practice transformative youth organizing, build power, and create long-term transformation in our communities. YO! California seeks to build leadership pathways and serve as a hub for youth organizing that places the most impacted young people at the forefront of a bold, multi-issue movement for transformation, liberation, healing, collective power, and justice. CORE STRATEGIES 1. Build youth organizing infrastructure by providing deeper support to proven youth organizing groups and nurturing emerging youth organizing efforts. 2. Practice a transformative model of youth engagement and organizing that blends personal healing and growth with youth organizing, systems change campaigns, and movement building. 3. Create a statewide space for youth leadership and strategy to elevate and connect place-based campaigns to build power for greater impact. 4. Widen funder interest and long-term investment in youth organizing as a viable strategy for youth leadership development, community transformation and systems change. PRESENTER BIOS Naudika Williams (she/her/they/them) is an alumni of Californians for Justice, a past intern at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and a trainer with YO! California. She has led work to reform California's education funding system and ensure meaningful student voice in the process, engaged and educated her peers through civic engagement campaigns, and organized youth and staff to create Relationship-Centered Schools in Oakland. She is a graduate of Oakland High School, and a student at Laney college. Naudika is planning to transfer this fall to pursue her degree in creative writing and film. [email protected] J. Ishida (they/them) is the Senior Strategy Director at Californians for Justice and Youth Organize! California. They lead the integration of local and statewide organizing and capacity building to build power and transformation in our communities. J. brings 18 years of youth organizing and racial justice experience through their work with Californians for Justice, Movement Strategy Center, Chinese Progressive Association, and as an independent consultant for youth organizing and civic engagement organizations.
