Will you let another young person die of alcohol poisoning?

You do the mathThis year more than 80,000 deaths in the

United States will be the result of binge

drinking*. And despite what parents may

like to think of their children, as many as

36% of college students** and 24% of high school students* are binge drinking.

What are the odds they will know what to

do when confronted with acute alcohol

poisoning—and that it can be deadly?

Will they even know what it looks like?

What we’re doingAware Awake Alive is working closely with

high schools and universities, implementing

the Aware Awake Alive Toolbox program on

campuses across the country. We actively

coordinate with administrators and students

to help customize a unique program specific

to each campus. On the other side of this

brochure, see how we’re talking to students

directly though an awareness campaign.

Our vision is a world in which no young life is cut short due to alcohol poisoning.

Our mission is equipping youth and their communities with the tools and confidence to prevent lives lost from alcohol poisoning.

AdvocacyAware Awake Alive wholeheartedly supports and, in

turn, asks for your support of the 911 Lifeline Legislation

throughout the United States. These laws provide limited

immunity for underage individuals who seek assistance

or help from law enforcement or emergency services in

response to an alcohol-related emergency situation.

Many teens refrain from reaching out for help for fear

of the consequences of underage drinking violations.

Sadly, this inability to garner the attention needed in

this life or death situation can be fatal. Aware Awake

Alive strongly believes that this type of legislation

can remove the fear a teen may have in calling for

help. One simple phone call can save a life.

FundraisingYour donation does more than support our mission.

Your gift helps save the lives of young people by

enabling us to spread the message of the dangers of

alcohol poisoning. When making a donation, please

let us know if you would like to make this gift in honor

of a loved one or for a special occasion. Thank you!

Bombed or buried? What is the difference between drunk and dying?

What does alcohol poisoning really look like

to others at the party? What do you do if you

recognize it? Or do you think that if you drink too

much, you can sleep it off, puke it off, or both?

In many cases you can. But sometimes over-

drinking can be deadly. And it’s hard to tell the

difference between drunk and dying. People at

the party need to know how to make that call.

drunk or dying?

You make the call.

WE ASK YOU TO TAKE AT LEAST ONE ACTION TO SAVE A LIFE TODAY:

Go to DrunkOrDying.mobi on any web-enabled phone for a 3-click decision tree that helps you understand what alcohol poisoning looks like and what action to take.

Carson would have been there for you.Carson Starkey was like any kid headed off

to college. Full of hope and excitement and

had his whole life ahead of him. He believed

in doing the right thing and always helped

those around him. But on December 2, 2008,

no one helped Carson. During his freshman

year, he died during a fraternity-hazing

incident involving binge drinking. At one

point, his friends loaded him in a car to get

help, but ultimately abandoned the trip.

He died needlessly that night at the age

of 18 from alcohol poisoning. His blood

alcohol level was .40. This heartbreaking

tragedy and thousands of others like

it are preventable, and you can be the

difference. Will you make the call?

Sincerely,

Julia and Scott Starkey, Co-founders
