The Challenge• To keep the electricity flowing under

extreme operating conditions and avoid unplanned shutdowns

The Sycamore Co-generation (Cogen) Power Plant powers thousands of homes and businesses in the southern California desert, where summer temperatures routinely reach 115°F (46°C).

Previously, the plant used lubricating oil that broke down under high temperatures, which caused sludge and varnish deposits. Oil service life was barely 16,000 hours, and expensive turbine components were compromised.
