Informational Meeting-Clinical Study-HIV Microbicidial Gel Trial

The purpose of this informational meeting is to recognize the strategies to reduce HIV/AIDS and promote the value of a healthy lifestyle.

The meeting will take place over a two-hour time period.

The meeting will inform potential participants about the benefits and risks associated with the Vaginal/Microbicidial Gel study for prevention against HIV.

•Participants will describe the difference between HIV and AIDS

Objective One

•Participants will review informed consent agreement

Objective Two

•Participants will understand the risks and consequences of participating in the HIV/Study/Microbicidial Trial

Objective Three

Tenofovir Microbicidial Gel for HIV

Teenage girls and young women, bear the brunt of the HIV epidemic in Africa

Tenofovir gel potentially adds a new approach to HIV prevention as the first that can be used and controlled by women. It could help empower women to take control of their own risk of HIV infection.

The CAPRISA 004 study is the first step - additional studies are urgently needed to confirm and extend the findings of the CAPRISA 004 trial

Once confirmed and implemented, tenofovir gel has the potential to alter the HIV epidemic. It is estimated that this gel could prevent 1.3 million new HIV infections and over 800,000 deaths in South Africa alone.

Participants will complete a short SMS Quiz at the end of the small group break out session. Study participants will be required to complete weekly surveys if they are accepted into the clinical trial.
