you will need to complete this assignment by friday, 1/22
DESCRIPTION
1st, B2 and B4 slides 3 – 36 5th period only slides 37 - 39 Sorry guys I’m gone today. Both of my sitters are sick, so I’m home being mom. PLEASE be respectful to Mrs. Tracy. She’s a nurse and can help you with this blood type information. You know the procedures (ask to go to the restroom, help each other AND stay on task). NO phones until your class has completed the tutorial I created for you. Do NOT argue with Mrs. Tracy. She is very knowledgeable and very sweet. Remember subs have a hard job but YOU can make her day go well If you understand what’s going on, PLEASE share YOUR knowledge and teach others. Positive feedback will result in a positive result for YOU! Keep that in mind TRANSCRIPT
ALL periods should READ “My Family Pedigree” assignment posted on ClassroomYou will need to complete this assignment by Friday, 1/22. PLEASE complete at home tonight. You will “TURN IN” via Classrooms using the Classrooms “turn in” button.Take 5 minutes right now to read and ask each other’s questions about the instructions.

Partner Whiteboard learning!Per pair get one whiteboard, one dry-erase marker and a paper towelFollow directions on each slide. Take notes when needed and complete practice problems when asked.
Quiz next period! You can also watch videos on Classrooms for review.
Erase…Make a key for the following...• In horses, chestnut fur color
is incompletely dominant to white horse. The heterozygous genotype results in a roan horse.
Answer:• In horses, chestnut fur color
is incompletely dominant to white horse. The heterozygous genotype results in a roan horse.
Chestnut = CWhite = WRoan = CW
Erase..Same key, new questionChestnut = CWhite = WRoan = CW • What results if a white horse is bred with a roan horse? Show the
cross as well as the genotypes and phenotypes of the parents and offspring.
Answer:Chestnut = CWhite = WRoan = CW• What results if a white horse is bred with a roan horse? Show the cross
as well as the genotypes and phenotypes of the parents and offspring. WW x CWChestnut = 0%White = 50%Roan = 50%
Erase…new question, same keyChestnut = CWhite = WRoan = CW• A breeder has a herd of chestnut and roan horses. Can he bred any of
these horses to make a white horse?• Show punnett square to prove
Answer…Chestnut = CWhite = WRoan = CW• A breeder has a herd of chestnut and roan horses. Can he bred any of
these horses to make a white horse?• NO white horses can be produced.• Chestnut (CC) x Roan (CW) • 50% chestnut• 50% Roan• 0% white
White and black coat fur color are codominant to each other.
Erase…Make a key for the following…
White and black coat fur color are codominant to each other. White = WBlack = BSpots =WB
Answer:
White and black coat fur color are codominant to each other. Both colors are dominant to purple
Make a key…
White and black coat fur color are codominant to each other. Both colors are dominant to purple
White = WBlack = BSpots = WBPurple = a (recessive so it gets a lowercase letter)
Answer
Blood types• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttjn1jVACk8
After the video…For simplicity, we will only focus on the four phenotypes:
Type A BloodType B BloodType AB BloodType O Blood
Make a Key…
A-type and B-type blood are codominant to each other and are dominant over O-blood type.
Make a Key…A-type and B-type blood are codominant to each other and are dominant over O-blood type. •Type A Blood = IA•Type B Blood = IB•Type AB Blood = IAIB•Type O Blood = i Don’t let the captiol “I” before the A or B confuse you. It shows you that there are multiple options that are dominant, so you use capitol “I” for the dominant and lowercase “i” for the recessive
Write the genotype for Homozygous A-type.
Type A Blood = IAType B Blood = IBType AB Blood = IAIBType O Blood = i
The genotype for Homozygous A-type is…answer: IA IA
Type A Blood = IAType B Blood = IBType AB Blood = IAIBType O Blood = i
Write the genotype for a Hetero A-type.
Type A Blood = IAType B Blood = IBType AB Blood = IAIBType O Blood = i
Write the genotype for a Hetero A-type ?
Answer: IA iType A Blood = IAType B Blood = IBType AB Blood = IAIBType O Blood = i
Write the genotype for Hetero B-type
Type A Blood = IAType B Blood = IBType AB Blood = IAIBType O Blood = i
The genotype for Hetero B-type is
IB i
Type A Blood = IAType B Blood = IBType AB Blood = IAIBType O Blood = i
Write the genotype for O-type
Type A Blood = IAType B Blood = IBType AB Blood = IAIBType O Blood = i
The genotype for O-type is
i i
Type A Blood = IAType B Blood = IBType AB Blood = IAIBType O Blood = i
Homozygous B-type & O-type
Type A Blood = IAType B Blood = IBType AB Blood = IAIBType O Blood = i
Predict blood-type for the children…
Homozygous B-type & O-typeanswer: IBIB x ii
100% - IBi 100% - Type B Blood
Type A Blood = IAType B Blood = IBType AB Blood = IAIBType O Blood = i
AB Type & Hetero A-type
Type A Blood = IAType B Blood = IBType AB Blood = IAIBType O Blood = i
AB Type & Hetero A-typeanswer: IAIB x IAi
25% - IAIA25% - IAi25% - IAIB25% - IBiType A Blood = IAType B Blood = IBType AB Blood = IAIBType O Blood = i
Homo B-type & Hetero B-type
Type A Blood = IAType B Blood = IBType AB Blood = IAIBType O Blood = i
Homo B-type & Hetero B-typeanswer: IBIB x IBi
50% - IBIB50% - IBiType A Blood = IAType B Blood = IBType AB Blood = IAIBType O Blood = i
Mom – B-typeChild – B-typeDad - ???? Parents: IBIB x IBIB this cross will produce a B-type child. There are 7 other possible crosses…list them!
Now…use your new skills to identify ALL the possible genotypes for the parents.
Type A Blood = IAType B Blood = IBType AB Blood = IAIBType O Blood = i
Mom – B-typeChild – B-typeDad - ???IBIB x IBIB IBi x IBIBIBIB x IAIB IBi x IAIBIBIB x IBi IBi x IBiIBIB x iiIBi x ii
Dad – O-typeChild – O-type Child – B-typeMom- ???There are TWO possible crosses for this example.
Type A Blood = IAType B Blood = IBType AB Blood = IAIBType O Blood = i
Dad – O-type (ii)Child – O-type (ii)Child – B-type (IBi)Mom- ??? IBIB x iiIBi x ii
We’ve now have covered ALL information for your pink packet. Continue to practice with your pink practice (BOTH of them!)Video tutorials on Classrooms.Don’t forget “My Family Pedigree” assignment needs to be “turn in” via Classrooms by Friday (aka tomorrow)
5th period onlyToday you will understand the (+) and (-) about blood, along with the four phenotypes.
1st – watch video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttjn1jVACk8
Here’s the summary…
EACH four phenotypes can either be Rh+ or Rh-This makes 8 different blood types
One blood sample is test with each serums above. The result of this blood is Type B(-).
With blood type testing, if CLUMPING happens, that means it’s a match for that type.
Clumping means the sample is Type B
NO Clumping means the sample is NOT Type A
NO Clumping means the sample is NOT Rh(+)
