TheYoungFoundaJonisaleadingindependentcentrefordisrupJvesocialinnovaJon.Wecreatenewmovements,insJtuJonsandcompaniesthattacklethestructuralcausesofinequality.Webelievestructuralinequalityunderminestheeconomyandcorrodesourwellbeing.Lackofopportunityandlimitedsocialmobilitydestroyslives,leavingitsmarkoncommuniDes,relaDonships,aspiraDonsandself-worth.Weworktocreateamoreequalandjustsociety,whereeachindividualcanbefulfilledintheirownterms.WebelievethatliJleaboutthefutureofsocietyisinevitable.Boundbyoursharedhumanity,webelievewecollecDvelyhavethepowertoshapethesocieDesandcommuniDeswewanttolivein.TheYoungFoundaDonharnessesthepowerofdisrupDveinnovaDontoaddressthecausesofinequality.ThisinnovaDonisbasedonresearch,partnershipsandpracDcalproblemsolving.Weuseitasatoolforchangeinthesystemsthatundermineindividualresponsibility,empowermentandparDcipaDon.Wehavealreadycreatedprojectsthatareopeningupnewpathstopowerformarginalisedpeopleatthelocallevel.Wecreatenewmovements,insDtuDonsandcompaniesthatempowerpeopletoleadhappierandmoremeaningfullives.WeworkwiththepublicandprivatesectorsandcivilsocietytostrengthentheirposiDveimpactoncommuniDes.Joinus.WeareTheYoungFoundaJon.

Peopleperceivetheycannotdothingsbecausepeoplelikethemarenotresponsible.
Wehavealsodocumentedthatindifferentcontextscommunities–individualsorpeople–havenotalwaysgonealongwiththisideathattheyshouldn’tactorcannothelpthemselves.
Theyareactingtomakechangehappenallthetimebutitisn’trecognised.
Onewayinwhichcommunitiesengagewithinequalitynarrativesisbyactivelycounteringthem.Theytelladifferentstory,shareadifferentvision,andascribedifferentmeaningtothesamefacts.Wecallthesecounter-narratives.Counternarrativesemergeindependentlyofthedominantnarrativeandinspiteofit.Theydrawoncommunityknowledgeandcommunity-centricvalues.(Hodgson2016)

Incertainsituations,likeintheBasquecase,peoplecangeneratethepermissiontoactforthemselves,throughsocialmeans:self-belief,actingonsharedvalues,andbysupportingeachother.Theycantellthemselvesthattheyandotherscandosomething.
Theydon’tneedspecificskillsorauthority.Theyjustneedanattitudetobewillingtohelpmakechangehappen.
Thisgivesthemthe‘socialpermissiontoact’.Itisbasedanddrivenbysharedvaluesandactions.
Thesuccessofcommunity-ledinnovationisthatitissociallyandcommunitybased.Peopletakeactionsandaresupportedbythecommunity,whooftenjointhembecausetheytrustthemandbelieveintheirideas.(Hodson2016)
