Our CEO - Mr Luke Lancaster

I started Young Pioneers when I was 12 years old, after being bullied at school. I wanted to show young people that it is “Cool to Care”

and that they can make a positive contribution to the lives of others. Young Pioneers enables young people with the key skills they need,

and helps them develop an I can do approach to life.

WHO ARE WE? WHAT DO WE DO?

Young Pioneers is a charity run by young people, for young people. It was set up by Luke Lancaster when he was only 12 years old. Luke was a school boy who wanted to enable other young people to make a difference.

Our aim is to make it “Cool to Care” and to help young people advance in life by improving their social welfare and developing their key skills so that they can become mature and responsible individuals. The charity empowers young people to achieve this by providing accredited training courses and education programmes that teach young people how to Stay safe, Be Healthy, Go Green, Innovate and Make a positive contribution to the lives of other young people.

We want young people to be aware of the worldaround them, take action and become positive role models for other young people.

What kind of world do you want?

OUR PROGRAMMES

We are able to offer amazing opportunities to young people because of the fantastic support we receive from the corporate world. Business people wanting to help us make it ‘Cool to Care’ shaping the future.

Education:

I life Hub. We offer 10 youth trainer scholarships to train young people to help other young people to use technology in a positive way to help others.

Stay Safe Programme. Ensuring that Children and Young People Stay Safe is vital in today's changing society. To achieve this we must enable young people to make informed and responsible choices.

Be Healthy What does it mean to be healthy? Many young people are not aware of the consequences that some decisions might have on their health. We work with them to help them understand how they can take positive action and avoid harmful choices.

Go Green What kind of world do you want? Enabling young people to "Go Green" is not just about raising their awareness to issues such as climate change, it is about empowering them to take action and take responsibility for the kind of world they want to live in.

Youth Trainers Young People today are often portrayed in a negative manner. We want to challenge this view and empower young people to be role models for other young people. We developed our youth trainer award to give young people the skills and knowledge to be able to teach other young people how to stay safe, be healthy and go green. Enterprise and Innovation

A Young Pioneer is an innovator who takes the first step to get things going, a young person who takes action and makes a difference to the lives of others. In simple terms innovation for public good. All of our young pioneers are social innovators, change agents for the future helping to enable other young people to care about the world they live in.

Schools Enrichment Programmes: At young pioneers we believe in enrichment and engagement. We provide accredited education programmes that will enable your young people to make a difference and develop key skills for life. Ultimate Challenge Inflatable Obstacle Course

Event suitability requirements

The Young Pioneers Ultimate Challenge Inflatable is available for use at ‘events throughout the UK’ this challenge would be a fantastic attraction for any event. This is one of the UK’s longest inflatable obstacle courses. As a charity we use this to raise money to plough back into the training of the young people we work with.

The Ultimate Challenge activity: Area requirements for inflatable use for indoor or outdoor event

87 ft by 14 ft - (aprox size of inflatable)

100 ft by 25 ft (This allows for a safety zone to be placed marked around the activity)

Flat surface grass surface required. Giant pegs hold the inflatable securely in place. (When used indoors sand bags hold the inflatable in position.)

Power supply: We have a generator for outdoor use. The inflatable can also be run off the mains too. We use electric fans for indoor events. The inflatable uses three blower fans to keep it inflated.

Ultimate Challenge Event team: We man the inflatable with a volunteer staff of 5 people. The crew includes a first aiders, Driver and three stewards. Health and Safety:

Fire safety: 2 fire extinguishers are accessible at all times when equipment in use. One will be with in short range of the generator and the other by the 3rd blower fan.

Consent forms: Every person wishing to go on the inflatable has to sign a consent form. Consenting to our rules of use and accepting liability if they do not adhere to the safety instructions. under 18’s are signed for by a responsible adult. Once signed the person will have a stamp on there hand so if they wish to go on the equipment numerous times during the event they will not be required to sign the consent again.

Rule signage: will be displayed at the front end of the activity. Rules clearly displayed in picture and words. Supervising staff will talk the participants through the do’s and don’ts as well.

Safety zone: We use a orange barrier fencing to make a parameter fence either side of the inflatable. 1 Meter each side, for out door events. Indoor events we use tape and cones.

Adverse weather: Anchorage points should be secured to the ground with ground stakes, where the ground is suitable. Inflatable should not be used when the wind or gusts are in excess of the maximum safe wind speed specified by the manufacturer. The industry recommends a maximum wind speed of Force 5 on the Beaufort Scale of 30-38 kph 19-24 mph. Force 5 is a fresh breeze when small trees in leaf begin to sway, whereas Force 6 is a strong breeze when large branches are in motion, whistling can be heard in telephone lines and umbrellas can only be handled with difficulty.

‘The Ultimate Challenge’ use fee. Below is a guide to our charges for the use of this activity.

City events: Town events:

£3 a go for public to use £1.50 a go for school fetes £5 a go if a corporate event £2 a go for fun days and festivals £4 a go for corporate events

After taking out the running costs from the event takings. The profit from the use of this equipment is where the event hires 10-20% comes out of. The remaining money continues the valuable work of the Young Pioneers and the 1066 Fundraisers nominated charities.
