study abroad

reachStudying abroad Is more affordable than you may think. Some of YSU study-abroad programs are even more affordable than a semester in Youngstown, and most financial aid can be applied to approved overseas study programs. YSU’s Center for Interna-tional Studies and Programs’ professional staff are always available to help you make it happen. At the CISP, you will receive

As part of your college education, why not explore an option that will change your life? Studying in another country will expand your knowledge, broaden your cultural awareness, and boost your confidence and self awareness. It’s also a very compelling resumé item. Through YSU’s direct agreements, consortium partnerships, and individualized programs, opportunities await you in more than forty countries.

study abroadStudying abroad is, in the words of one student at YSU, “a life-changing experience.” Visit places you’ve only read about; meet people whose outlook on the world is quite different from your own; learn to see with new eyes. In a world gone global, you owe it to yourself.

study abroad · study abroad · study abroad · study abroadStudy abroad can take many different forms. Some programs offer a cultural immersion experience, consisting primarily of intensive language and culture training. Other programs offer a semester or a year of coursework at a foreign university taught in the language of that country, which is ideal for students who have achieved proficiency in another language. In addition to programs in the English-speaking world, YSU main-tains partnerships with universities in Taiwan and Turkey that offer a wide range of courses taught in English, allowing students to take a combination of language training and other academic courses in their majors.

There are even programs in which students and professors travel together to a number of countries around the world, teaching and learning along the way. Whatever international experience you choose, the Center for International Studies and Programs is here to assist you.

Tuition and fees at Youngstown State have been kept below the state average to allow increased access to a high-quality university education. In spite of a continuing decline in state support, YSU is still one of the best values in Ohio. And with the Western Pennsylvania Advantage tuition reduction, WPA-area residents have the same opportunity to get a great education at an affordable cost. (see graphic at right).

Reaching into your future

According to the Census Bureau, over an adult’s working life, college graduates earn almost twice what high school graduates earn. Here are the stats:

$1.2 million high school graduates $1.6 million associate degree holders $2.1 million bachelor’s degree holders

Conclusion? A college education makes a huge difference in your earning potential.

And keep in mind, too, that between affordable tuition and comprehensive financial aid, you’ll leave YSU with a much lighter debt load than most college graduates. That gives you more freedom and flexibility as you take your next steps.

intramural & club sportsIntramurals allow you to compete on an informal, friendly basis. It’s a great way to meet people—and stay in shape. YSU offers intramural com-petition on men’s, women’s, and co-rec teams. Volleyball, tennis, dodgeball, 8-ball, table tennis, badminton, frisbee, soccer— you can’t lose when you choose one of these.

Among the ways you can add dimension to your education at YSU is by getting involved in the dozens of activities offered by Campus Rec-

reation and Intramurals. At the Andrews Student Recreation and Wellness Center, you can climb the wall—all five stories, if you

want—spin, jog, play racquetball, basketball, and ping pong, take a quiet break in the meditation room, do yoga, learn tai-chi, work out on the cardio and

strength equipment, drop in at a fitness class or two, or go for a dip in the Olympic-size pool at nearby Beeghly Center. And that’s just on the inside. There’s also an outdoor com-

petition-level track, tennis courts, and playing fields for soccer, softball, and baseball.
