New CVMA Board members were sworn in at the Pacific Veterinary Conference in San Francisco. They pledged to “serve in my elected position with honesty and integrity” and recognize their responsibility to “support and uphold the veterinary profession and the CVMA.” The following individuals will help lead the CVMA in the coming year.
District III – Dr. Allan DrusysDr. Drusys was installed for his first term on the Board of Governors (BOG), representing District III. He is a public health veterinarian at Riverside County’s Department of Animal Services. Dr. Drusys has been a CVMA House of Delegates (HOD) member, representing the Orange Belt VMA, for three terms. He graduated from Free University in Berlin, Germany in 1980.
District VIII – Dr. Lisa PeschDr. Pesch was installed for her first term on the BOG, representing District VIII. She has served as president of the Redwood Empire VMA and represented that VMA in the CVMA HOD. Dr. Pesch operates her own holistic veterinary practice in Sonoma County. She graduated from Tufts University in 1996.
District VIII – Dr. Marie-Anne Woolley Dr. Woolley was installed for her first term on the BOG, representing District VIII. She is an associate veterinarian at Providence Veterinary Medical Group, a small animal practice in Alameda. Dr. Woolley is a past-president of the Alameda County VMA. She graduated from Tuskegee University in 1992.
New Cvma Officers
At the CVMA Board of Governors meeting in June at the Pacific Veterinary Conference, the following individuals were elected as CVMA officers for 2012-2013, joining new CVMA president Dr. Chris Cowing.
Dr. Ronald Kelpe Dr. Kelpe will serve as president-elect during 2012-2013. He owns the Santa Margarita Animal Care Center. Dr. Kelpe is a former president of the Southern California VMA and has been a representative in the CVMA HOD. Dr. Kelpe received his DVM from Iowa State University in 1984.
Dr. Dayna WiedenkellerDr. Wiedenkeller will serve as member-at-large during 2012-2013. She is a member of the Southern California VMA and has represented it in the CVMA HOD. Dr. Wiedenkeller is a co-owner of a small animal practice, the Community Veterinary Hospital in Garden Grove. She received her DVM from Cornell University in 1988.
Dr. George BishopDr. Bishop was installed for his fourteenth year as CVMA treasurer. He owns The Animal Hospital at the Crossroads in Carmel and is a member of the Monterey Bay VMA. Dr. Bishop, a former board member and president of the CVMA, is the CVMA’s alternate delegate to the AVMA HOD. He
received his DVM from The Ohio State University in 1965.
Cvma House Of DelegatesNew House Chair – Dr. Sasha HendersonDr. Henderson was installed for a two-year term as Chair of the CVMA House of Delegates. She is an associate veterinarian at a small animal/exotic practice, the Animal Hospital of Huntington Beach. She has been a HOD member representing the Southern
California VMA for three terms. Dr. Henderson graduated from Purdue University in 2001.
Dr. Zvonar Retires as House Chair Many thanks to Dr. Michael Zvonar for serving as HOD chair over the past year! He is a member of the California Food Animal VMA and has been a representative in the CVMA HOD for three terms. Dr. Zvonar lives in Tulare and is an associate veterinarian at a dairy bovine practice. He received his DVM from the University of Georgia in 1999.
Student RepresentativesWesternU – Shelley TaylorMs. Taylor received her BS and MS in biology from Georgia State University. She is entering her third year of veterinary school at Western University of Health Sciences. While exploring her interest in avian medicine, she is completing research on raptors in
Southern California. Another career interest is small animal medicine with a focus on dentistry and surgery.
UC Davis – Shirley ChenMs. Chen holds a BS from the California Institute of Technology and an MS from Stanford University. She is entering her second year at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Her focus is small animal and exotics medicine, with particular interests in both emergency and holistic medicine.
