Monday - Friday updates on Information Line @733-3029.

Dear Church Family,

As the people of God we are a sent people. We

are sent into the world to represent and tell people about

Jesus. Over the next several months you will have several

opportunities to be sent out on mission. As you may

know, we are sending a mission team to New York City in

June. They will be providing much needed labor for a new

Southern Baptist Church in Manhattan called the Gallery

Church. You can partner with this team through prayer.

We will provide a week long prayer guide this month for

you to pray through. You can also partner with this team

financially. If you would like to make a donation to this

mission trip you can make your check out to The Hill

Baptist Church and indicate that you would like it to go to

the Missions Fund.

There will be several other opportunities for you

to participate in missions locally. We would love your

help with Vacation Bible School during June 22-26. There

are several ways you can help! You can talk to Abbey for

more information. Also, the past few summers we have

participated in something we call 40 Days of Ministry.

This has been a great way for us to step out of our comfort

zones and minister to those around us. This year we will

continue this initiative but with a slight modification. We

are going to seek to offer several ministry opportunities

this summer and then extend these opportunities through-

out the year. More details will be coming soon! I want to

challenge you to be available. Prayerfully consider how

God may use you this summer to point people to Christ. I

look forward to laboring alongside you this summer as we

seek to reach our community with the good news of Jesus

Christ!

“As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”

- John 20:21

In Christ,

Pastor Ron Jones

Our next Cookie Ministry day is

Thursday, May 7th at 10 am. Meet me

in the Social Hall and we’ll see what

we can put together! We will also go

eat lunch together afterwards!

On Thursday, May 21st, we are planning to go eat at the

Little Dutch House in Wrens. We’ll be leaving the church

at 10:30 that morning so we can beat the lunch crowd! It’s

been awhile since we’ve been down there but it’s always

good so make your plans now to join us!

We express Christian sympathy to the family of:

Mary Austin Peebles, April 26, 2015.

The 64th annual National Day of

Prayer, May 7, 2015, will have

profound significance for our

country. It is an unprecedented opportunity to see the

Lord’s healing and renewing power made manifest as we

call on citizens to humbly come before His throne.

Our theme for 2015 is Lord, Hear Our Cry, emphasizing

the need for individuals, corporately and individually, to

place their faith in the unfailing character of their Creator,

who is sovereign over all governments, authorities, and

men. To further highlight our theme, we’ve chosen I Kings

8:28 as our Scripture for this year: “Hear the cry and the

prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this

day.”

As many of you know, The Hill

Youth are piloting a Bible study

on Ezekiel called Zombie Chris-

tian: The Sacred Undead by

Sabrena Klausman. Recently,

Christy Bagby led us in a discussion of Zombie Rule 3—

Know Your Dormant Zombies. For those of you (like me)

who aren’t very familiar with zombies, dormant zombies are

slow-moving, lumbering zombies. There are three types: the

Woe is Me Zombie; the Holier Than Thou Zombie; and the

Gen X, Y, and Z Zombie. In the study, these zombies are

compared to “dormant Christians.”

The Woe is Me Zombie is a zombie who has been injured

and makes sure everyone knows it. Similarly, the Woe is Me

Christian has a victim mentality. They complain loudly to

anyone who will listen and they never heal and never connect

with others. Slowly, they become spiritually paralyzed.

This type of Christian can be compared to the Israelites in

Exodus 15:19-27 and Exodus 16:1-3. God brought them out

of slavery in Egypt and parted the Red Sea to allow them to

escape the Egyptian army, yet just a few days later they com-

plained that they had no water.

The author of the study asks the question, “Have you ever

experienced God’s deliverance only to forget that fact in the

fire of the next struggle?” I think most of us have. In 1 Corin-

thians 10:10-11, Paul reminds us what to do in these situa-

tions: “You need to stop your groaning and whining. Remem-

ber the story. Some of them complained, and the messenger

of death came for them and destroyed them. All these things

happened for a reason: to sound a warning. They were writ-

ten down and passed down to us to teach us. They were

meant especially for us because the beginning of the end is

happening in our time.” Imagine how different our world,

our families, and our churches would be if we all took this

little piece of advice to heart.

Stay tuned next month to learn about the other two types of

dormant zombies (and Christians) and for information about

our upcoming summer events!

Summer is quickly approach-

ing and we have many fun activities

lined up for The Hill Kids. This year

our Vacation Bible School theme is

Lifeway’s Journey Off the Map- Un-

known to Us, Known to Him. Children

will have a great time learning to trust God and faithfully

follow our “Guide.” Vacation Bible School will be June

22nd -26th in the morning from 9 am- 12 pm. Children ages 4

years old through 5th grade are encouraged to come and

bring their friends. If you would like to help with this year’s

VBS please contact Abbey Sandifer. Last year we were able

to meet our goal at 50 children; this would not have been

possible without all the volunteers who graciously gave

their time, prayers, and resources.

In Him,

Mrs. Abbey

Upcoming Events:

May 17th- Mission Friends and Children in Action

awards night. Participants in Mission Friends and CIA will

be recognized for their participation in Wednesday night

activities throughout the year. Please bring your vest and

previous years’ badges.

May 20th- Mission Friends and CIA End of the Year

Party! CIA and Mission Friends join us for a night of Pizza

and games!

June 22-26- Vacation Bible School 9am-12 pm

Monday 2 the Max will begin the Monday following
