Hayes The Herald-News Staff [email protected] HARDINSBURG - The Breckinridge County Board of Education is at full capac- ity now with the addition of new board member Tonia Saettel of McDaniels. She replaced Tim Cherry who re- signed in December. She represents the Harned, McDaniels and McQuady precincts and will be seeking a complete four year term in November. In other business, the board voted unanimously to expel two BCHS students for the remainder of the year for vio- lation of the student code of conduct. The board held an executive session to discuss the terms of a contract for Superintendent Janet Meeks. The board reported no action was taken after an hour long session. Candy Weatherholt Councilor chosen to fill one vacancy By David W. Hayes The Herald-News staff [email protected] CLOVERPORT - There were five names from which to choose to fill a vacancy on the Cloverport City Council. At a special called meeting of the council, Cloverport busi- ness person, Candy Weath- erholt, was chosen by a 4 to 1 vote. Other candidates in- cluded Tony Holcomb, Stan- ley Snyder, Donnie Tindall and Bobby Windsor. BRECKINRIDGE COUN- TY - The Circuit Clerk’s of- fice will be closed the week of April 9-13 to facilitate the move to the new Breckin- ridge County Justice Center. Circuit Clerk’s office to be closed next week The office will be unable to is- sue drivers licenses or process any paper work. There will be no court held next week. The office will reopen on Monday, April 16. The new hours for the office will be as follows: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The office will be open until 5 p.m. on Tuesday. The office be closed on Sat- urday. County offices will close on Friday, April 13, at noon and will be closed on Saturday, April 14. Courthouse closings announced HARDINSBURG - The Breckinridge County Justice Center Project Development Board held their last meet- ing prior to the opening of the new $11 million structure to the public on April 16. The board met in what will serve as the Family Court- room in the new building. County Judge/Executive Maurice Lucas announced the approval of the payment of $543,994.21 of invoices which was done in executive session by phone. The group was told by Richard Mitchell, Codell Construction manager, that on April 4 an architectural punch list to have all the smaller un- finished items completed. Mitchell said the state in- spector had issued a tempo- rary certificate of occupancy that day. Hwy. 259 around 10:40 a.m. to conduct a “knock and talk” investigation regarding a possible methamphetamine complaint. Chaffins said a female an- swered the door and officers saw materials consistent with manufacturing meth inside the residence. A man who was inside fled from the former restaurant building and ran to a neigh- boring residence at 1009 S. Hwy. 259. Chaffins said the subject ran into the back door of the home and locked it. The deceased was identified Tuesday night as Brice T. Horn, 46, of Harned. shot wound at a residence on KY 259 about a mile south of Harned on Tuesday morning, April 3. Trooper Norman Chaffins, public affairs officer with Kentucky State Police Post cers and the subject was ob- served at the rear of the resi- dence holding a handgun to his head. He was ordered to drop the weapon but failed to comply and fired the gun. The task force officer returned fire and the subject was fatally injured. Chaffins said Tuesday af- ternoon that police are unsure if the fatal shot was self-in- flicted or if the officer’s bullet killed him. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. In a press release issued late Tuesday by KSP Post 4, the deceased was identified as Brice T. Horn, 46, Harned. According to family, Horn is originally from Louisville but moved to Breckinridge County several years ago. No one else was injured during the altercation. KY 259 was closed for a short time following the incident. Chaffins said the investiga- tion remains ongoing.

HARDINSBURG - The Breckinridge County Board of Education is at full capac-ity now with the addition of new board member Tonia Saettel of McDaniels. She replaced Tim Cherry who re-signed in December.
