On a local level, Waste Management Community Relations representative, Kathleen Klein was recognizedin 2017 by Oakland County’s Trails Water Land Alliance (TWLA) with its Oak Land & Partner Award andby the Michigan Alliance of Environment and Outdoor Education with an Appreciation Award for WasteManagement’s public education and partnership efforts. Kathleen Dougherty, formerly of Oakland CountyParks, current MAEOE member and volunteer with the Oakland Audubon Society wrote, “Kathleenexhibits all of the traits of an exceptional educator and she has demonstrated her commitment toenvironmental education in the community.”
Clarkston Road boardwalkunder construction andcompleted
match grant which enabled the township to secure funding for theconstruction of an important safety path boardwalk along ClarkstonRoad, across from Camp Agawam.
Eagle Valley Tree HarvestingWaste Management had to removethe remaining trees on the west sideof Eagle Valley for cell development.Aaron Whatley, Director of Parks andRecreation for Orion Township, askedif the township could have some ofthe trees to mill for lumber and forfirewood to be used at Camp Agawamfor their events. The trees would havebeen salvaged as mulch and firewood from the tree clearing companybut Waste Management was happy to repurpose the trees directlywith the township.
