What is Your Future

• A 20 week arts intervention for victims of  domestic abuse and their families

• Led by The Roses Theatre and rolled out by  other arts organisations into all 6 districts in  Gloucestershire

• Weekly 2 hour sessions on an arts activity for  mums, younger children and teenagers

The Origins Story

• Create Gloucestershire (CG): a laboratory for  change, driven and fuelled by its members

• Driver: need not funding• Lottery bid established relationship between 

CG, voluntary sector and Gloucestershire  County Council

Fertile Ground

• Art Lift: precedent for success of arts and      health  intervention 

• CG provided established network, sector knowledge  and central point of contact

• Collaboration was not happening in a vacuum – principles were being ‘tested’

across other CG 

projects• Success of collaborative model was not resting on 

one project; sustained the process when challenges  arose

Who holds the reins?

• Original assumption: CG would lead the bid and manage the  process

• CG’s principles: independence and capacity building• Established transparent, independent selection process• Ensured Roses Theatre had clear mandate to lead• Next steps: from one‐off project to systematic offer

Why did Gloucestershire County Council commission  ‘Your Future’?

• Identified need for support for families with issues around  domestic abuse to achieve outcomes around resilience, family  functioning and self‐esteem

• Previous successful art‐based project within Gloucestershire• High quality, pro‐active and professional approach from arts 

provider who understood County Council’s objectives• Visionary lead commissioner and enthusiastic and committed 

project team
