• It is important to establish clear goals that can span from increasing sales and conversions to strengthening your brand identity to go viral. Each goal may require different social strategies and benchmarks however:

• Keep it cohesive.

• Cover all of the main social media channels to be more effective.

• Develop a strategy that includes frequency of posting – but remember quality over quantity!

• Schedule posts in advance using platforms such as Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Nuvi, Twitter or even Facebook.

• Create a mix of content and include of-the-moment announcements

• Monitor social channels daily to ensure trending topics aren’t missed

• Pay attention to your audience’s habits when scheduling posts. For example, posts to Facebook on Fridays have higher engagement levels.

TIP 3: A PICTURE SPEAKS A THOUSAND WORDS

• Social posts that include visuals draw more engagement and can boost retweets by up to 35%.

• Images allow your brand to take up more real estate in your audience’s crowded newsfeed.

• Mixing up the types of images you include – infographics, quotes, memes, real-time event photos – will add layers to your social media strategy

• Make sure you own the rights or have permission to use any image you post on social, or make use of your graphic designer’s skills to create unique, memorable images for your accounts!

• If your content is the same across all social platforms, what’s the benefit in following more than one? Tweak your copy to ensure it fulfills the function of each platform’s USP, while giving your audience a reason to follow.

• Rather than ‘spray and pray’, isolate your message to ensure it’s appropriate for the forum.

• If there’s a platform you feel is not appropriate to a particular post, avoid it and focus on drawing your audience to the appropriate platform

• Use social as a place to leverage your newsletters, contents and all your other forms of communication. It’s a way to connect with your customers, so be sure to engage!
