Nearly 50% of the stuff that goes in your rolling bin for waste collection is organic waste. By composting, you’ll significantly reduce both your greenhouse gas emissions and the amount of contaminated runoff created by organic matter in garbage dumps.
Do your partWith the new bylaw, every resident who receives a brown bin must use it for their organic waste. Organic waste will no longer be accepted in regular garbage bins.
Say hello to your new organic friend!

TIPS AND TRICKS FOR BRUTUSTake care of it!
To keep your bin clean
• Line the bottom of the bin with newspaper or cardboard to absorb any liquids.
• Keep meat and other smelly waste in the freezer until collection day.
• Try to remember to put your bin out every collection day.
• Rinse your bin regularly and use that water to water your garden. It’s full of minerals!
• Store your bin in the shade if possible.
To keep animals and insects away
• Wrap food waste in newspaper or a paper bag.
• Apply a bit of menthol chest rub on the cover and around the air holes to keep the critters away.
• Sprinkle with salt, vinegar, or baking soda if you see any insects.
To save on storage space
• Team up with your neighbors to share bins.
• Opt for a smaller garbage bin.

COLLECTION SCHEDULE
Take it out!
Set your bin out properly
As with your other rolling bins, you’ll need to:
Put your bin out before 7 a.m. on collection day.
Put your bin in your parking space, near the street (sidewalk, street, and bike path must be kept clear).
Make sure the wheels and handle are facing your home.
Keep a free space of 60 cm (2 ft.) around the bin so the truck can pick it up with its claw.
WINTERFrom December to March, organic wastewill be collected every two weeks.
SUMMERFrom April to November, a truck will come by each week.

Make sure your bin isn’t too heavy!
Remember! Starting the week of September 30th, 2019, garbage collection will be every two weeks, no matter the season!
See ROUSSILLON.CA/GMRCALENDRIER for your municipality’s collection schedules.
8
Moving?Leave your rolling bin behind! Just like blue bins,
your brown bin needs to stay where it was delivered. Your municipality owns the bin.
9
Keep up the
good work!
Already have a domestic composting bin?Use your brown rolling bin for organic waste that you can’t put in your compost, like leftovers, meat, bones, dairy products, weeds, etc. The two make a great team!
Grasscycling and leaf mulchingWe encourage you to grasscycling and leaf mulching. It’s easy! All you have to do is leave your grass clippings and cut-up leaves on the ground. This has numerous benefits:
