Dear People Leader,2018 U.S. Benefits Open Enrollment is right around the corner. This year’s enrollment period is October 16 – November 3.

Our appreciation and expectation of your role with team members are high. Team members may come to you with questions, and reviewing this information will help you respond. We do not expect you to be a benefits expert, but we do look for your support in directing team members to take advantage of the many tools and resources available to them.

This is a great opportunity to help team members understand their offerings as well as reinforce the value of Grainger’s comprehensive Total Rewards program.

If you have Open Enrollment questions, please call the Open Enrollment Support Line at 1-877-439-4882 (October 9 – November 3, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Central Time).

THANK YOU!

How We Help Keep Team Members Healthy

There is nothing simple about health care, but Grainger is focused on two basic things: team member health and the cost to them and Grainger – and the two are extremely interrelated.

Grainger’s plans continue to:

• Cover 100% of the cost of preventive medical and dental care

• Cover 100% of the cost preventive prescription drugs on the ACA list under all three medical plans1

• Cover 100% of the cost of ALL preventive prescription drugs under the HSA Gold plan (and a $5 copay under the HSA Silver and POS Platinum plans)

• Offer voluntary benefits at discounted rates

How We Partner to Manage Costs

Despite rising costs, Grainger continues to share in the cost of buying coverage and the cost of health care. In return, we ask team members to share in the responsibility by:

• Enrolling in the right levels of coverage to avoid paying for more than what is needed

• Understanding what is included in their coverage

• Using tools like the medical carrier cost estimators to make smart choices when they are purchasing health care services

• Making lifestyle choices that keep them healthy

PROTECTING TEAM MEMBERS’ FINANCIAL FUTUREGrainger continues to offer benefits that protect the things that are most important to our team members. These programs include:• Long Term Disability protection if a team member

becomes disabled.• Life Insurance to help in the event of unexpected loss.• 401(k) contributions to help build retirement savings.• Health Savings Account (HSA) to help pay for health

expenses now and in the future.

And for each of these programs, participating team members should select a beneficiary in order to make the most of their elections.

1 Under the Affordable Care Act, certain health plans are required to cover recommended preventive services and medications without charging a co-payment, coinsurance or deductible.

Encourage Team Members to Do These 4 Things

CONSEQUENCES OF NO ACTIONIf team members do nothing, they will:

• Default to the HSA Silver Plan at the same level of coverage they currently have

(or default to no coverage if they currently have no coverage through Grainger).

• Default to tobacco user status and pay a higher medical premium.

• Have no 2018 HSA or FSA contributions.

• Lose the opportunity to enroll in Critical Illness and MetLaw coverage.

• Lose the opportunity to enroll in Long Term Disability coverage without having

to provide proof of good health (known as EOI).

• Visit GraingerTotalRewards.com. No login required.

• Text GRAINGER to 77453 to opt-in for 2018 Open Enrollment reminders, even if they’ve previously opted-in.

increase to $50 ($25), and the emergency room copay will increase to $150 per visit ($50).

The out-of-pocket maximum will increase to $4,000 for individual coverage ($1,000) and $7,350 for family coverage ($2,000). And preventive maintenance generic prescriptions will be available for a $5 copay, with no deductible.

Health Savings Account (HSA) • Contribution changes – If a team member elects the

HSA Silver of Gold plan, he/she may contribute up to $3,450 ($50) for individual coverage or $6,900 ($150) for family coverage. These amounts include Grainger’s contribution if you enroll in the HSA Gold plan ($500 for individual, $750 for individual + spouse/domestic partner or child(ren) and $1,000 for Family coverage).

• Catch-up contribution – If you are age 55 or older, you may make an additional $1,000 catch-up contribution (same as in 2017).

Long Term Disability • No proof of good health – During Open Enrollment, team

members have a special opportunity to enroll in Long Term Disability for 2018 without providing proof of good health (referred to as Evidence of Insurability or EOI). This means that if a team member was denied coverage in the past, they can now enroll without completing EOI.

• Age-banded rates – Starting in 2018, rates will change from a single rate (also known as composite) to rates based on team member age (also known as age-banded).

Voluntary benefit programs2

Especially helpful for team members selecting the HSA Gold or Silver medical plans

• Group Hospital Indemnity Insurance provides a lump-sum payment to help cover unexpected expenses that result from a hospitalization for up to 31 days of a related stay.

• Group Accident Insurance provides a flat amount to help manage out-of-pocket expenses when dealing with accidents. These are for over 150 covered conditions associated with an accident, including injuries, hospitalization, medical services and treatments.

Medicare-eligible Retiree Benefit • OneExchange – Medicare-eligible retirees and their

Medicare-eligible dependents (age 65 and older) will now enroll for individual coverage through OneExchange. This will provide greater choice at more affordable costs.

• Cost Sharing – Grainger will continue to share in the cost of post-65 retiree health coverage for eligible full-time team members (hired before 1/1/2013), but it will be through a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA).

Note: Part-time team members working 20-29 hours per week are not eligible for dental, long term disability, life insurance or the retiree health benefit.1 The HSA Silver and Gold plans do not apply to team members in Hawaii (Kaiser), Puerto Rico (Triple-S) or Guam (SelectCare).2 MetLife benefits are not offered to team members in Guam.
