This year’s theme for National Hospice and

Palliative Care month is…We Listen, We Care. A

strong reminder of the importance hospice and

palliative care providers place upon the wishes and

priorities of those they serve. And this is seen in all

that we do.

Whether we’re reaching out to the

community, educating other healthcare

professionals, or telling elected officials why quality

end‐of‐life care is important, it’s the way we honor

the patients and families we serve that sets us

apart.

If you or your loved one needs hospice

home care, remember to ask for us by name:

Hospice of Limestone County; “Hometown Folks

Taking Care of Hometown People”.

REMEMBRANCE AND HOPE

Hospice of Limestone County and M.A.D.D. invite

anyone who has suffered a loss of a loved one to

the annual “Celebration of

Ten Things You May Not Know About Hospice Most Americans have heard about hospice care.

They know that hospices care for people at the end of life.

Most people know a family or friend who was helped by

hospice when faced with the serious illness and death of a

loved one. But there’s so much more to know.

For example, did you know that hospice provides

what the majority of Americans say they want at the end

of life? Excellent pain management, comfort, and support

for the patient and family caregivers.

Ten more things you should know about hospice:

1. Hospice is not a place but a special kind of care.

2. A hospice care team is made up of doctors, nurses,

social workers, counselors, spiritual care providers,

trained volunteers and other skilled professionals who

provide high‐quality, compassionate care.

3. Hospice care is available to people of all ages with any

kind of life‐limiting illness, including cancer, advanced

Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, lung disease,

kidney disease, HIV/AIDS and other life‐limiting

illnesses.

4. Hospice care is fully covered by Medicare, Medicaid,

and most private insurance plans and HMOs.

5. Hospice provides all medications and medical

equipment (related to the terminal disease) needed to

keep a person safe and comfortable.

6. There’s no limit to the amount of hospice care a

person can receive; it’s available as long as a doctor

believes a patient is eligible.

7. Most care is provided at home but hospice is also

available in nursing homes, assisted living and long

term care facilities and hospice inpatient units.

8. Hospice care can include complementary therapies,

such as music and art, to bring additional comfort to

patients and families.

9. Hospice programs offer grief support to the families

they care for as well as to others in the community

who are grieving.

10. More than 1.5 million people receive care every year.

One of the most common sentiments shared by families

who have been helped by hospice care is, “We wish we

had known about hospice sooner.”

To find out if hospice might be right for you or your family,

or to learn more, contact Hospice of Limestone County, or

visiting Caring Connections at www.caringinfo.org or call

the HelpLine at 1‐800‐658‐8898.

Hospice of Limestone County’s 24th annual Chili Challenge and Silent Auction will be here before we know it! This is Hospice’s primary fundraiser and has proven to contribute immensely to the success of

our organization. The funds raised at this event enable Hospice to provide support services for terminally ill patients and their families in Limestone County. Without these funds many of the

programs such as Camp Hope (for children of deceased parents) or our respite services for hospice patients’ families would not be possible to our community.

This letter is to inform you that a great opportunity exists for you, who through personal interests or corporate connections can become a sponsor for Hospice’s Chili Challenge 2012 coming in

February. Each sponsor will be recognized publicly in the local

newspaper and on a printed banner at the Chili Challenge Event for his or her donation. Sponsorships are categorized as the following:

Contributor - Under $50.00

Friend - $50 - $99 Patron - $100-$199 Sponsor - $200-$500

Primary Sponsor - $500+

If Hospice can count on you, please respond to this letter no later than Tuesday, February 8, 2012 to Hospice of Limestone County (by Mail) P.O. Box 626 or (office) 405 S. Marion Street, Athens, AL 35612, marked Chili Challenge & Silent Auction 2012.

Those that are served by Hospice and their extended families appreciate your generosity and

commitment. The success of Chili Challenge 2012 can only be met by everyone’s willingness to participate in such an important endeavor.

Sincerely,

Chili Challenge Chairpersons

MEMORIAL PRAYERMEMORIAL PRAYERMEMORIAL PRAYERMEMORIAL PRAYER

Source of Life, Spirit of Compassion, we give thanks, from the fullness of our hearts for the life that we remember in this gathering. Let the meaning of her life live on in us. May the light that she has given us shine on in our own lives and hearts and memories. Help us to find the courage and the faith we need each day to carry on. Open a way of hope before us. Mend our hearts and teach us to be comforters of one another.

By Deborah Cooper

To Those We Love

Memorial Edition

2010 - 2011

Year after year we are reminded of how

blessed we are for the many remembrances,

contributions and support that we receive

from this community and beyond.

We truly are grateful and are here for you all.

We extend our sincerest thank you

and wish for you a safe, healthy and happy

2012.
