Each year as September approachesPaul and I cannot help but reflecton the attack of September 11,2001. Ten years have flown by usyet for those who lost their lovedones and never found a trace ofthem time has stood still. Noclosure, nothing to touch or see. Just an empty spot in theirhearts created by people who hate us just because we areAmericans. As you read Steven Cafiero's story on this page youcan feel the pain in his words but also the pride in his heart.Pride seems to be the thread that ties the families of the 2996people that were killed that day together. Whether you arewatching a CNN special or reading a story written by someonewho lost their loved one that day; Pride will be mentioned as afeeling that they have left in their hearts. Americans are a toughbreed. We can replace terror with pride, fill our hearts withgood memories and pay homage to our heroes withoutworrying what the rest of the world thinks. That is what makesus different, maybe even enviable. I pray that never changes.

As you browse through this issue keep in mind the businessowners advertising in here are living the American dream. Theyare entrepreneurs, the cornerstone of our nation. We knowthem personally; their heritages are mixed but their goals are thesame. From Remo the Italian Hairstylist to Sam's Chinese; theirfamilies came to America for opportunity. Paul and I go and seeeach and every one of them regularly, whether to pick up theirads, drop off their proofs or buy their goods. It is part of whatmakes doing what we do so rewarding. We are proud to beconnected to our diverse hard working community.

Don't forget school is back in session and kids will be excitedand maybe not paying attention. Drive carefully. Slow downand take in the beauty of the Fall Season.

See you in October,Cheryll & Paul

Don't forget to tell your family you love them!

A message from WE SHALL NEVER FORGET...Steven Cafiero Jr. resided in Queens New York overlooking the Throggs Neck Bridge. He was smart, funny, handsome and humble.A former limousine driver who had managed a cell phone store across the street from the World Trade Center, Cafiero always reached for the stars. No matter what he did he always took it tohigher level. As a limousine driver he befriended icons of motionpictures such as Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Leonardo DiCaprio andHarrison Ford. Harrison Ford even offered Steven to be his full-timedriver and to reside at his home so he could pursue an acting careerwith his movie star looks, but he respectfully turned it down.

He was ecstatic when he landed a job in August of 2001 as a clientspecialist at Aon Corporation on the 92nd floor of Tower Two.

Steven Jr. was my only son and best friend. I believe divineintervention brought him home to me Labor Day weekend 2001.He was proud of his new job and was anxious to come upstate and see me and my fiancé, Carol and tell us of his new position.I remember Carol asking him if he was afraid of being so high upworking in a building that was bombed in 1993. Being a body builder who competed on ESPN and an arm wrestling champion in his weight class of New York State and a street smart guy, heshrugged it off with a simple "nah."

Steven loved sports. He became an avid golfer and was a new teammember of AON's bowling league which he was so proud of. And me being a performer, he would come and see me perform and evenget up and sing with me.

The morning of September 11th, 2001 my fiancé, Carol called me atwork and told me that a plane crashed into the World Trade Center;and then another. I was in shock, the unthinkable had happened.I left my job not knowing where my son was through all this. I waspraying and half crying as I drove home that Steven survived thecrash. I didn't know if I should drive to Manhattan or go home andtry to reach him by phone. I went home and talked to his girlfriendwho had been able to get in touch with him as the first plane hit thenorth tower. She said he was on the phone with his mother and saidhe saw people jumping out of the north tower. While he was on thephone he saw a second plane coming towards his building and said"Oh, My God" and those were his last words. The phones died and so did my son. No remains of him were ever found. Ashes were sentto me from Ground Zero and I placed some of them in the groundunder a tree I planted in his name.

Pat Popalizio, owner of the Water's Edge Lighthouse Restaurant on Freeman's Bridge Rd. had a memorial built on the grounds, overlooking the Mohawk River. The memorial is made of two twisted and scarred steel beams from the World Trade Center and a flag incased in glass with Steven's name etched on it along withother local victims who were killed that day.

I have written an epic poem called September 11th, 2001 and eachyear I'm privileged to read it at the memorial. The poem is from myheart and is written for all of us who lost loved ones that fateful day. It's always hard for me to get through the last paragraph:"This tragic day, the eagle stopped flying, joined by the Statue of Liberty crying. September 11th, 2001, is also the day I lost my own son." Please join us at 9am Sunday September 11th at The Waters Edge Lighthouse to remember our losses and count our blessings.

-Steve Cafiero Sr.

LIFE INSURANCE:PLAN TODAY FOR THEUNEXPECTED TOMORROWLife insurance is a practical way to protect yourfamily’s financial hopes and dreams, yet millions ofAmericans have no life insurance coverage! In fact, only 53 percent of adult Americans have life

insurance protection. Less than half of those are individual policies, whileothers depend upon group insurance, leaving them underinsured as well asvulnerable to being uninsured if they lose their job. When you purchase a life insurance policy, your primary thought is usuallysecurity for your family and beneficiaries. Knowing that there will be fundsavailable for your final expenses, the mortgage and income replacementafter you are gone can be a great comfort to your spouse or loved ones. The death of a family member can be devastating to survivors bothemotionally and financially. Life insurance can provide cash to help with:

• Immediate needs, including funeral expenses, unpaid medical billsand taxes.

• Income replacement – to allow your family the chance to continueliving the life to which they are accustomed.

• Long-term needs, including the costs associated with maintainingyour home, including child care, home maintenance, and extendedcare for a disabled child or elderly parent.

• Life insurance is not for people who die, it's for the people who live.According to a study by LIMRA, 45 percent of widows and 37 percentof widowers said their spouse had been inadequately insured. Mosthouseholds hit by a premature death saw a minimum 15 percent dropin income.

• When you buy life insurance, you buy a promise of protection in theevent of an untimely death.

By planning for the inevitable now, your loved ones can be cared for in thefuture.

COMPUTERS AND STUDENTSComputers play a large role in the education ofstudents today.

Students use computers to do research, communicate with teachers and colleagues, andcreate multimedia presentations to name just a

few. This makes purchasing a computer for the home or college studentmuch more important, but how does one know what type of computerto buy?

Before shopping for a computer, check with the school regarding anyrecommendations, requirements or restrictions there may be on studentcomputers.

All of this information will be very helpful during the shopping process.

The first decision that must be made regarding a student computer iswhether to buy a desktop or a laptop system. For most individuals incolleges, laptops will likely be more preferable whereas high schoolstudents can get by better with desktop computer systems.

When purchasing a computer system for school, there are a number ofaccessories that one probably needs to buy with the computer. One ofthe key things that students will need for school is a printer, and a wordprocessing program.

It is very hard to point at any specific system as being the best for astudent. Some computers are better suited than others depending uponfactors such as grade level, what subjects the student is studying, livingarrangements and even the budget.

Desktop Advantages: Less Expensive, More Powerful Systems, MoreUpgrade Options Instead Of Replacement, Less Likely To Be Stolen FromDorm Rooms.

Laptop Advantages: Computer Can Be Taken Practically Anywhere,Increased Communication with Wireless Networks, Require Less Space. (disadvantage.... easily dropped and damaged)

At Cheap Geek, we welcome you to come and talk about your needs andwe will gladly recommend what we think would be best suited for yoursituation. We have new computers starting at $299. Keeping in mindthat it is very important, with any new computer that you buy, to havethe right virus and spyware protection right from the start. It only takesa few seconds to get infected and really mess up your operating system. As always...safe computing!

HEADING BACK TO SCHOOL?Children across the country are gearing up for a new school year. Before heading backto the classroom, the American OptometricAssociation recommends a visit to theoptometrist. Healthy vision is an importantpart to the learning process and success in

school. Reading, writing and computer work are among the visual skillsthat students are required to perform daily. However, studies show that86% of children start school without ever having an eye examination.

Many experts believe that approximately 80% of learning comes through achild's eyes. Despite the strong correlation between vision and learning, many people underestimate the number of children affected by eye andvision problems.

Because a child's vision may change frequently, regular eye and vision careis crucial to a student's classroom success. The AOA recommends thatchildren have their first eye assessment at six months of age, thencomprehensive eye exams beginning at age three, before a child entersschool, and then every two years, unless otherwise advised by anoptometrist. In between visits to the eye doctor, parents, as well asteachers, should keep a watchful eye out for some of the more prevalentsigns that a child's vision may be impaired.

Studies indicate that 60% of children identified as “problem learners”actually suffer from undetected vision problems and in some cases havebeen inaccurately diagnosed with attention deficit disorder (ADD) orattention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

The AOA recommends that parents contact their doctor of optometry if theirchild frequently loses place while reading, avoids close work, tends to rubeyes or has headaches, uses finger to maintain place when reading, struggles to complete homework, squints while reading or watchingtelevision or holds reading material closer than normal.

The earlier a vision problem is detected and treated, the more likelytreatment will be successful. Comprehensive eye exams play a critical rolein this process. It is important to keep in mind, a school vision screening, while helpful, is not a substitute for a comprehensive eye examination.Screenings vary in scope and are not designed to detect many visualproblems that can significantly impact tasks like reading where more thanclarity of vision is needed. Comprehensive eye exams performed byoptometrists are essential for clear, comfortable and healthy vision.

GETTING ALONG WITH THEGROCERY STORE...F I T N E S S.Did you know that the grocery store is the source formost of your unwanted pounds? Well, that and the fastfood restaurants, but we'll leave that for another day. Ifyou're like most people then your shopping trips aren't

exactly organized. Come, take a walk with me through your grocery storeand we'll improve your shape and the shape of your family members.F: FIRST VEGGIESWhen you start shopping, first go to the produce section. The bulk of yourshopping should take place here. Fresh vegetables, lettuce for salads, andfruits are the best things to eat when you want to look and feel great. Don'tskimp on produce-aim to fill most of your cart hereI: IS IT WHEAT?When it comes to bread you only need to ask yourself one question. Is itwheat? White bread products have been processed and filled with simplecarbohydrates - these will easily stick to your body as fat. Wheat breads, onthe other hand, contain more fiber and are much healthier. Always choosehearty wheat bread products-the more whole grain, the better.T: TRIM THE FATThese days lean meats are more available than ever, and the benefits togoing lean are numerous. When you choose lean meats you avoid extrasaturated fat (your heart will thank you for this) and you also avoid theextra calories that come packed into each fat gram.N: NEVER ENTER THE JUNK FOOD AISLEI have a simple policy that has saved me from thousands of unnecessarycalories. I don't walk down the junk food aisle. Avoid that row altogetherand save yourself from the whole ordeal.E: EDGE AROUND THE STOREHere's a really easy trick for healthy shopping. Edge around the store, as inshop the perimeter and avoid the inner aisles. Think about it-the healthiestproducts are kept around the perimeter of the store: produce, meat, dairy. Shopin a circle-stick to the perimeter of the store, do less shopping in the aisles.S: SKINNY COWThe dairy section is filled with many healthy items; it is also filled withextremely high fat items. Your job is to pick out all those calcium-rich foodsthat you love in the low fat versions. Making the switch to low fat is such asimple way to cut unnecessary fat and calories from your diet.S: STICK WITH WATERSodas, sugary juices and calorie-laden alcoholic beverages are responsiblefor a large number of unnecessary calories in your diet. Looking for a tastybeverage? Look no farther than crystal clear water. Are you ready to take your body from fat to fit? I've got what it takes to getyou there! REINVESTING DIVIDENDS CAN PAY OFF When you invest in stocks, you want their price to goup. But of course, you can’t control the rise and fall ofstock prices. However, there is a key element ofinvesting that you can control - the number of sharesyou own. And in the long run, share ownership may be

more important than rising stock prices in determining your long-terminvestment success.Of course, you might think that the advice of “buy more shares” is easier saidthan done. After all, not everyone can easily find a lot of extra money toinvest. But you don’t need access to vast wealth to increase your shareownership - you just need to consistently reinvest your stock dividends.Just how important are reinvested dividends to wealth accumulation, ascompared to capital gains (the increase in stock prices)? Over the 135-yearperiod from 1871 through 2003, owning stocks and reinvesting thedividends produced 97% of all stock market returns, with only 3% comingfrom capital gains, according to a major study done by Dr. Jeremy Siegel, one of the world’s leading researchers on stock market performance. Otherstudies have also pointed to the importance of dividends as a component oftotal returns. This suggests that you may not want to spend an undueamount of time and effort in chasing after “hot” stocks, hoping for bigcapital gains. For one thing, by the time you buy these stocks, they mayalready be cooling off, or more importantly, your focus on achieving largecapital gains may not be the best use of your financial resources.Ultimately, the power of dividend reinvestment means, not surprisingly, thatyou may be able to help yourself if you look for quality dividend-paying stocks- and then reinvest the dividends, month after month and year after year. With just a little research, you can find stocks that have paid, and evenincreased, dividends for many years in a row. So, to help boost your shareownership, consider reinvesting the dividends back into the stock, rather thantaking them as cash payments. Keep in mind, that not all stocks will paydividends, and even those that do can reduce or discontinue them at any time.Dividend reinvestment does not ensure a profit or protect against loss. But inany case, if you can do without the current income provided by dividends, givecareful consideration to reinvesting them. Dividend reinvestment is not aglamorous investment strategy, and it won’t help you “get rich quick,” but itcan help you make steady progress toward your long-term financial goals.

Dear Sponsors:Wow! What a season we have had! The racingaction was cancelled on Saturday August 6th asmother nature won with downpours during theday; therefore cancelling the races. Our next racewas a mid-week show on Wednesday, August10th which was a 25 lap event awarding 20 showup points for all racers in our division. Markstarted on the outside pole in his heat race andwon the event but with the car spitting andsputtering for the entire race. It was discoveredthat there were carburetor problems. A “ThankYou” to Jimmy Venditti for assisting our crew andfixing the carburetor problem. Mark started thefeature in the 6th position and by lap 8 he wasalready up to the 3rd position next. He got into2nd place taking that position away from RobertBublac just before a caution at lap 12. On therestart John Scarborough, the defending trackchampion, was on the inside and Mark on theoutside and they raced side by side, inside andoutside, for 7 laps until finally on lap 19 Markwent way high out of turn 2 passing Scarboroughfor the lead. Mark continued to lead to thecheckered flag and won the race, win #3 of the2011 season. It was a very exciting win for us! On Saturday, August 13 the Track of ChampionsFonda Speedway held their final regular seasonracing program of the 2011 season known as theNight of Features with double features in alldivisions being run to decide the 2011 trackchampions in each class. In the first 602 sportsman feature event theJumpin' Jack's Drive-In sponsored #1M of Scotia,NY resident Mark Mortensen already had a 34point lead and started the event on the outside ofthe fourth row in the eighth position. By lap nineMortensen had already moved up to the thirdposition and when Justin Boehler slid up high onthe backstretch on lap 12 Mortensen was able toduck under him for the second position.By then Korey Wilder had built up a straightawaylead which was taken away on the same lapwhen Boehler slowed on the track. On the restartMortensen got by Wilder for the lead and neverlooked back as he went on to his fourth win ofthe season. The win also sealed up the 2011Fonda Speedway 602 Sportsman TrackChampionship for Mark.

In the second feature event the starting lineupwas inverted by nine positions meaningMortensen would start on the inside of the fifthrow in the ninth position. On lap four the cautionflag was out to slow the event and under cautionMortensen pulled into the infield with what wasinitially thought to be a problem with the rear endof the car but was actually a wheel issue on theright rear corner of the car as the entire centersection of the wheel and the bead lock brokeapart from the rest of the wheel. Mortensen pittedfor a wheel/tire change and restarted the event inthe 27th position. From that point on Mortensen tried to make his wayto the front using a completely different line on thetrack as he was now using primarily the outsidegroove around the track while in the first featureevent he used the inside groove to do all of hispassing. At the drop of the checkered flag Mortensengained 11 positions to finish in the 16th spot in anevent won by first time winner Doug Flynn.”At the completion of the racing program Mark andour entire race team were able to celebrate ourfirst career track championship at Fonda with allof the other champions in their respectivedivisions Ronnie Johnson (modified), RockyWarner (pro stock), Cassidy Wilson (street stock),and Ben Righi (4-cylinder).The entire Mortensen Motorsports crew and manyof our sponsors and fans also celebrated in victorylane as champagne sprayed all over thechampionship winning drivers. I would like toonce again thank all of the sponsors, crewmembers, and Mark's fans who have beensupporting the team all season long. I would alsolike to thank Jimmy Eaton who is a good friend ofMark's, as they work together, for bringing his carto the track just in case it was needed.Once again I want to say “thank you” to all of oursponsors. FALLING FOR FALLI'm sitting at the beach in Cape Cod while I write thisarticle and I can't tell you much fall is NOT on mymind. That said, I do love the change of seasons andthough I love warm weather (I'm a transplantedTexas, after all), fall is my favorite time of year. Thecrisp smell in the air, the soft filtered sun, the beautiful

warm colors; I sometimes wish it could be fall all year long.

At this time of year, I'm ready to update my house for the new season, ona budget of course. Small changes make a big difference in the way youlook at your home. Starting with the outdoors, change out your pottedannuals for mums, cut back the browning perennials, trim up trees andbushes, and start prepping beds for winter.

Working your way indoors, start by changing your color palette withwarm fall colors. Orange, red, gold, plum and green are quintessential fallfavorites. You don't have to go overboard - changing out pillow covers, scatter rugs, throw blankets and even lamp shades are all that's neededto give a room a little update with a dramatic impact. Take a look at otherareas too - mantels, dining room tables and bookshelves are easy areasto update and make a big statement. And by moving things from room toroom, you can create a fresh look with things you already own.

If you're like me, you never got around to completing your springcleaning, so this is a great time to do “fall” cleaning before buttoning upthe house for the winter. Cleaning windows and window treatments, ceiling fans and light fixtures, and giving the walls, ceilings and floors aonce over go a long way to making your home feel fresh and ready forthe winter.

STAY TUNED with Paul Hill

Natural horsemanship is the philosophy of working with horses byappealing to their instincts. It involves communication techniques thatbuild a partnership that closely resembles the relationships that existbetween horses; glancing through volumes of photos taken by her dad RoyRyan, an avid photographer with an eye for timing, it's obvious that BurntHill's own Brittany Ryan has the skill, patience and desire to become onewith her mount. At 13 years of age, Brittany loves to ride a quarter horse ofthe same age, however at 16.3 hands, Rocket towers over this petit younggirl, judging from the pictures, Brittany has total control.

Back in 2005 Brittany became interested in horses by watching ourneighbor Mary Gildea ride her horse, Black Jack & work with “Jacks” stablemate “Sassafras”. Soon she would follow Mary to her trainer JenniferRomriell as her “horse girl” while Mary took up barrel racing.

By 2009 Brittany had been taking lessons and started racing herself asMary chose to back away from the “nerve wracking” business of stayingon top a large horse at full gallop while attempting to clear barrels on acourse, Mary would now reverse the roll and become Brittany's horse girl. The stage was now set to watch this fearless young girl take command ofher new found sport and grow into an accomplished rider, collectingawards and accolades from every meet she attends. While participatingwith the North Country Barrel Racing Association as well as the New YorkState High School Rodeo Association, Brittany has won ELEVEN first placeevents as well as multiple 2nd and 3rd place finishes since May of this year, including placing 2nd at the State Finals at Painted Pony for Barrel Racing. Our good friends at the Double M Rodeo have been outstanding supportersof the sport; a special thank you goes out to Cindy and Wayne Martin fortheir contributions in making it all possible.

There is much more to this story, although the program is open to anyone, the only way one can compete in the NYSHSRA is to maintain a level ofacademic excellence and secure a referral from their school. Seeing that shetouts an A average and is a member of the National Honor Society, thatreferral came easily. Her parents, Roy and Danielle along with her mentorand proud supporter Mary Gildea who happens to be a teacher made clearthat homework and scholastic studies are something that Brittany neverneeds to be pushed on, she just does it, and does it well. Rodeo commandscamaraderie, respect, hard work and self esteem; the kind of self esteemthat you get through accomplishment of a difficult task. Her parents couldnot be prouder; watching their daughter grow and succeed in rodeo, underscores the core values they live by.

Roy made the point that to see an extended family of rodeo riders takethe time to teach Brittany new skills that one day may see awardspresented to her instead of them can be summed up in one word“profound”. Where else can you see folks take the time to share lessonslearned in the saddle with no sense of greed or ownership, rather sharedwith complete faith and sincerity. It's with a sense of deep pride that Ishare this story of a neighborhood kid, an articulate child whoappreciates her world, understands hard work and is willing to give allshe has in order to achieve that level of self esteem I mentioned earlier, one borne of dedication and devotion.

If you think this story is over, may I bring attention to her otheraccomplishments, Field hockey, Basketball and Softball on two teams each,a travel team and school team as well as Snowboarding on West Mountain.Look for Brittany and her parents soliciting sponsorship for the NYSHSRA,a worthy organization that deserves our support. STAY TUNED.

REMEMBER, REFLECT AND RECOMMIT

Indian Meadows ParkDroms Road, Glenville

September 11, 2011 • 4PM A coalition of clergy members, emergency first responders andscout leaders in the Burnt HillsBallston Lake community areplanning a public interfaith

ceremony of memorial and remembrance.

This November, as leaves rain down on us flooding our yards, and no one in the family gets areprieve from raking; while we are apple picking and making final preparations forThanksgiving dinner; as we cheer on our Jets - or Giants - or Patriots, one hundred of ourneighbors will be one family member short. One hundred of our neighbors will be contendingwith tasks that are a far cry from autumn yard work. New York Army National Guard Soldiersfrom Echo Company, a Forward Support Company in the 427th Brigade Support Battalionbased out of Scotia, just behind the N.Y. Air National Guard Base, will be heading toAfghanistan with the Guard's 27th Infantry Brigade for a 12-month long deployment.

For many of these soldiers, it will be the first time their family is dealing with the struggles, worries and fears that are associated with a deployment. Our neighbors will be tackling thelife of a single parent household with the added pressure of their spouse's safety weighing ontheir minds. They will deal with stresses like a leaking roof, a septic tank backing up, wakingup to two feet of snow on the ground. They will handle Christmas tree trimming, a baby beingborn or a child's first homerun in little league next spring. They will do these things, alone.

As a community with many National Guard residents, we have the distinct opportunity tosupport our troops and help their families firsthand. We can do the basic things like fly anAmerican flag, wrap a yellow ribbon around our tree, bring a neighbor dinner if you know theirloved one is deployed, attend a child's sports event to cheer them on while their parent isoverseas, offer a free night of babysitting so they might have a reprieve from the pressure ofbeing an Army wife. Many area businesses offer discounts for military members and theirfamilies. If you own a business, offer a discount and make sure you advertise it!

There are still many more ways to show your support for our troops and their families. Formore information on opportunities, please contact me. I am the proud wife of an active dutyNational Guard soldier and I volunteer for the National Military Family Association. For moreinformation, email me: [email protected].

THE CHOICE IS EASY"The quality of your life will be determined by thequality of your contribution"....(unknown)

I have this quote written in my day book. Yes, I stillhave a "calendar" that I actually write all myappointments in. I have a phone that has all thecapabilities to do the same and yet, I treasure my

book with the little chicken scratches in each of the small boxes. In thefront of my book, I have many scraps of paper. They are attached variousways, by tape, some are stapled and some are simply held by a big clipon the front. They are my affirmations. Quotes from various people. Some famous, some not. A note is attached from a friend that says I ama great person and have a lot to offer. On those days that I feel I havenothing to offer, I read this note. Sometimes more than once, helping mefeel a world of difference.

The quote above is one a read daily. I believe in all the old sayings..."what is good for the goose is good for the gander", Karma will bite youin the (you know what), "play it forward" and a "computer is only asgood as the information we put in it". The quality of my life is nothingto mess with. This little note attached to my book is a gentle reminderof just that. There have been many times that I have sat and felt that itwas better to just let the world pass and it will be what it will be. Until...Irealized, what the heck, nothing was happening because I wasn't doinganything to make it happen. We can all sit on the side lines and watchthe game but will never know how it feels to actually play.

Some days the pain that radiates through my body makes it easy to beon the side lines. I don't want to just watch, I want to feel what it is liketo play the game. I always figure my body can hurt just sitting here or itcan hurt playing too. The choice is easy. I have determined to be the bestI can be, whatever that best is. As each day comes, I read my scraps ofpaper, my affirmations, my inspiring words and know that no one else isgoing to do it for me. I better just get out there, time is a wastin' and getin the game. I am by no means the quarter back or the VIP player, nordo I aspire to be. I will however always give 110% each time I play inmy game of life.

Please take the quote above, cut it out or copy it down. Place it were youcan see it each day. Let it be your guide, your gentle reminder that life iswhat you make of it, you only have one, so make it count!

I wish you peace, joy and many opportunities to play in your game of life!
