Your Own Jungle Book

Our lives are not always open fields, sunshine, and rainbows—and that’s okay! It is in the jungles and wild, rocky times of our lives, the adventures and excitement, that we are molded and made into who we are meant to be. Yet, like Simba, we are not meant to linger in the jungle forever. We must keep our dreams and goals alive, and we should always look around us to the beauty around us—whether it be the wild natural world, or the hearts of other people.

As an 8th grader, you are in the prime of a wild jungly, and are being shaped and molded into the person you are becoming and will ultimately be. You yourself play a pivotal role in this adventure through the jungle, and circumstances and people around you provide you with the richness and treasure you need to move forward. Already in your life, you have established yourself as an jungle adventurer, you have moved and trekked and traveled forward, and you have gained true inspiration in friends, hardships, blessings and memories that have molded and shaped you into who you are today.

Fitting with your tech-savvy, creative minds, for your 8th grade project, you are to create an electronic presentation of your “jungle book” thus far. Consider the specific following as you ponder your own adventure:

• You as the jungle explorer. Introduce yourself. Who are you? What defines you? Here, describe how you are fit for exploration, what it takes to keep you going, and what kind of unique jungle you are in, based on your life experiences and personality (remember to explain how they connect!). Here is a link that explains ten of the world’s most famous jungles: https://www.stridetravel.com/blogs/top-10-most-amazing-jungles-in-the-world.html

• Your jungle plans. In fitting with your jungle theme (see above), how to you plan to prosper in your jungle? Will you be a caretaker for small animals? Someone who beautifies the jungle plants? Someone who makes sure the sunshine always beams in? Translate this into a metaphor for your future goals. What do you plan to do with your life—in five years? Ten? Twenty? What are some “bucket list” items that you are passionate about and important to you that you can take ownership of and own now to make sure they come to fruition later? Think ahead so that your jungle plans are the best they possibly can be!!!

• Beauty of the jungle. Who and what have provided you richness and meaning to your jungle life thus far that you’d like to give gratitude and appreciation for? Have you experienced shaping hardships (and if so, be brief—and appropriate, vague if necessary J). Have you had incredible opportunities? Do you have people who pump you up, encourage you, and constantly provoke you to always do better and always crave more for yourself?

• As you see it now. In a more narrow scope, what has been your favorite part of your last year(s) here in the Connections Visual and Performing Arts Academy, and how has this helped be a pivotal part in your jungle adventure?

As you create your “Jungle Book” presentation, include the following specific elements:

1. A digital Google Slides or PowerPoint presentation (no Prezi or Keynote) , based on the additional criteria below:

2. A description of you as the jungle explorer. (6+ bullets)

3. A description of your jungle—a metaphor of your life, and real details about what you hope to experience in it. (6+ bullets)

4. A description of the beautiful aspects you see in the jungle—those people, places, and experiences that are truly priceless that have helped shape and continue to shape you into the person you are today. (At least four examples, with 2+ sentences each to

explain). (This is where you give thanks, so make sure to mention people that you care about too!)

5. A description of your current jungle. Describe your experience as part of the Connections VPAA, and how this has helped you on your adventure. (4+ bullets)

6. Images, cleanly formatted. Some, if you wish, may be short video clips, but if you have this, have them as part of a fusion of images and video.

7. An image in the beginning with the name of the jungle (or description of the type of jungle) that best fits you—this will introduce the metaphor as a whole.

8. Words that provide the point, but aren’t too short to lack description or too long to be missed if presentations are put on a timer.

9. Clean and professional appearance and transitions.

Essentially, this presentation you on display. It will be displayed, and thus you should work diligently to make this look as nice as possible. Be appropriate as adults (and old-fashion, seasoned adults too) will see. Be prudent in what you share. Don’t be too specific if something is incredibly personal and some might feel awkward if extreme details are shared. Make sure your product is free from grammar and spelling errors (have it edited!). Be proud of your work, as I’m certainly proud of who you are and who you are becoming!

This assignment is worth 50 points and is due on the Google Classroom no later than TUESDAY, JUNE 5TH.
