About the PERG NEXT GEORGIA EDITION JULY 2021

Dear Colleagues, Well, none of us saw this coming. Yes, there had been warnings, but not about anything real. And so, when this Pandemic came down upon us, we were stunned. First, disbelief- this can’t be happening. Next, shock. Now, as of this writing on May 28th, we have faced the risks and the fears, and the personal loss, whether it be health or wealth, or death of loved ones, and we begin to climb out from under the rubble. I don’t know where we will be in July when this issue of the PERG gets delivered, but it won’t be over- that is certain. And we must consider that it’s possible we may never go back to the way things were. An event of this magnitude changes cultural standards. What will be the new normal? That will establish itself over time as we navigate through this crisis. It starts with getting back to our work, and help for how to do that is available. Please visit ABMP.com, specifically their back-to-practice guide. It is an excellent resource and full of both practical guidelines, financial advice, and information we need to make decisions about getting back to safely practicing massage. The decisions we make will require individual evaluation in regard to both

our personal safety, and the safety of our clients. Financially, pretty much everyone has taken a hit, regardless of government help. And that pushes us to decide what to do and when. Lots of anxiety and stress surrounds decision-making under these circumstances. So remember to take time out to breathe deeply and let things sit when you are tempted to act impulsively because of pressure. Source your life, don’t just respond. Let’s take a moment to appreciate all our creative and devoted leaders in our profession: those who research and publish; those who fight for our needs with the political powers that be. Let’s appreciate those teachers, colleagues, and clients who have expressed ongoing faith in us, and wait with us. Let’s be grateful for family members who are sharing this life experience with us, willingly deepening relationships. And of course, we thank all our healthcare providers, scientists, and their assistants, as well as all the essential workers who have kept the world as we know it from falling apart.
