YOUTH FOR CHRIST ANNUAL REPORT 2012 - 2013 In his 2005 book, “The World is Flat,” New York Times columnist, Thomas Friedman, concluded that one of the primary measures of a culture or organization is whether or not it has “more memories than dreams or more dreams than memories.” In light of Youth For Christ’s recent celebration of 70 years in ministry, we have a solid inventory of memories. There are strong and miraculous stories of God’s power that tell an important tale of courage, sacrifice and faithfulness. But in their healthiest context, these memories serve as a platform and not a destination. They are a reliable foundation from which dreams can be launched. These are not glamorous or elaborate dreams; they are dreams of transformation and hope and life. They are dreams that expose our complete dependence on the power of God. They are dreams that ultimately shine the brightest light on the glory and grace of our King. The indelible mark of Jesus has been written on the hearts of thousands of young people because authen- tic Christ-sharing relationships have pulled back the curtain on God’s amazing love. On middle and high school campuses where fear, loneliness, self-de- struction, and addictions invade with unrestrained contempt; the hope of Jesus is stronger. In juvenile detention centers where sin is publicly exposed; the grace of Jesus is unconfined. Throughout urban neighborhoods where distinctiveness is often defined by unhealthy affiliations; Jesus provides a new identity. YOUTHFORCHRIST

ANNUAL REPORT 2012 - 2013

In his 2005 book, “The World is Flat,” New York Times columnist, Thomas Friedman, concluded that one of the primary measures of a culture or organization is whether or not it has “more memories than dreams or more dreams than memories.”

In light of Youth For Christ’s recent celebration of 70 years in ministry, we have a solid inventory of memories.

The indelible mark of Jesus has been written on the hearts of thousands of young people because authen-tic Christ-sharing relationships have pulled back the curtain on God’s amazing love.

On middle and high school campuses where fear, loneliness, self-de-struction, and addictions invade with unrestrained contempt; the hope of Jesus is stronger.

In juvenile detention centers where sin is publicly exposed; the grace of Jesus is unconfined.

Throughout urban neighborhoods where distinctiveness is often defined by unhealthy affiliations; Jesus provides a new identity.

Children giving birth to children does not permanently destroy the pres-ent or the future for a young person; Jesus the Christ was forsaken for the forsaken; He was broken for the broken; He was ransomed to set us free. It is through Jesus that we offer life to the stories of young people. New life.

YFC reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other like minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who lead by their godliness in lifestyle, devotion to the Word of God and prayer, passion for sharing the love of Christ and commitment to socialinvolvement.

Our focus as a movement is on multiplying fruitful and sustainable ministry sites across the nation and around the world. We believe there are five essentials to establishing Ministry Sites.

Every day at thousands of community centers, high schools, middle schools, juvenile institu-tions, coffee shops, and local hangouts, YFC staff and volunteers meet with young people who need Jesus. We are rural and urban and we are always about the message of Jesus.

The “mission statement” above is important, but not as important as the words of Jesus. In the waning moments of His earthly ministry, Jesus found a teaching moment with the twelve disci-ples, and He utilized every word when He said…

“The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45 ESV

This job description not only highlights the op-erating model of Jesus; it also illuminates our passion in Youth For Christ. We wholeheartedly embrace the “and” of Mark 10:45. Jesus came to serve and to deliver the message of transfor-mation. He came to embrace and to liberate. “And” builds the bridge between two funda-mental realities. It connects a call to action with an eternal perspective.

In Youth For Christ, our passion is to minister in the name of Jesus. When we do that, we choose to walk across the very same bridge that Jesus used; the “and” bridge between Christian ser-vice and the message of Christ’s sacrifice.

OUR MISSION

Page 3: YOUTH FOR CHRIST - · PDF fileYFC reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other like minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus

During 2013 I was privileged to accept the role as Chair of the Youth For Christ National Board. I am humbled by this opportunity.I want you to know there’s a reason I said yes. There’s a reason I’ve been involved locally and nationally with Youth For Christ for many years. There’s a reason I lean in with enthusiasm and hope. Quite simply that reason is because our mission embraces the call of Jesus to love in His name; to serve with His passion; and to live in His grace. This is the story that we tell in our annual report, and for this story and His great gift, we give thanks to God.
