industry visits and discussions with employers or

others involved in specific industries. You’ll have a

student mentor and a range of support services to

help you through. Best of all, it won’t cost you or

your parents a cent! If you are accepted into Youth

Guarantee all your fees are paid for. You are not

eligible for a student loan from Study Link.

Get your career in food preparation off to a flying start.

This program equips you with the skills to become a

trainee in the hospitality industry. It incorporates the

units required for the National Certificate in Hospitality

(Basic Cookery) Level 3.

Learn in a real restaurant

Within the year you’ll be cooking and serving lunches

and dinners to real customers in our fully licensed

training restaurant.

Complete this program and you’ll earn a

Certificate in Cookery (Level 3).

Become a trainee chef, or cook in hotels, restaurants, cafes and hospitals or

part of the front-of-house personnel or enrol in the Level 4 Certificate of

Cookery course.

TRACK YOUR FUTURE IN OFFICE ADMINISTRATION AND COMpUTING

Whether you have some, little or no computer or word

processing skills by the end of this programme you will

be equipped with the knowledge and skills you need

to work in entry-level office positions or go on to more

advanced programmes of study.

Here’s what you’ll learn

To ensure you develop the skills you need to actually do

the job you’ll spend most of your time on a computer

learning the basics of creating spreadsheets and other

documents. You’ll also learn how to communicate

within an office environment.

Complete this program and you’ll earn a

Certificate in Business Administration and Computing

Certificate (Level 2) and a National Certificate in

Business Administration and Computing (Level 3).

Work in an office as a receptionist, office junior, administrator, records officer or

data processor or enrol in the level 4 Certificate in Business Administration

and Computing course.

TRACK YOUR FUTURE IN A TRADE

Becoming a tradesman begins here. You could be on

the road to becoming a qualified tradesman with a job

– and income – not just in New Zealand but anywhere

in the world. There are a lot of benefits of working in

the trades. You can be your own boss or work up to

senior management and when it comes to earning

potential, let’s just say the sky’s the limit.

Here’s where you start

For the first six months you’ll get to try your hand at a

number of trades and develop good basic trade skills in

our open plan workshops that are widely regarded as

some of the best trade training areas in the country.

In the second half of the programme you can choose

to specialise in plumbing and gas fitting, carpentry,

automotive, electrical or mechanical engineering.


Study: 42 weeks full-time

Location: Wintec Rotokauri Campus, Hamilton

Complete this program and you will earn a Certificate

in Introduction to Trades (Level 2) and you may also

earn a certificate in your chosen field.

After completing a full year Youth Guarantee program you are

ready to become an apprentice in the trade you have chosen.

Your choices: Automotive, Carpentry, plumbing,

Engineering or Electrical.

TRACK YOUR FUTURE IN ELECTRICAL SUppLY

This is the first stage of your journey in an industry

that enables electricity to drive the appliances

and equipment in our homes and businesses. At

the completion of the course you’ll have the broad

foundation of electricity supply, electrical engineering

and mechanical engineering skills required to complete

an apprenticeship.

Out and About

At Wintec learning is not all about sitting in a

classroom. One day a week you’ll be on the job training

at local work places, and throughout the course you’ll

visit dams, large switch rooms and similar destinations

to experience the industry first hand.

Complete this course and you will earn a

Certificate in Electricity Supply (Level 2).

Become an apprentice in the electrical supply industry as an installer or enrol in higher level engineering certificate

courses leading to a career as a registered electrician or a technician.

TRACK YOUR FUTURE IN FARMING

You can open up a world of career opportunities with

these basic farming skills and get a job on a dairy,

cattle, deer or sheep farm.

Learn out on the farm

You’ll learn what you need to know about farming

like animal handling, machinery and chemicals and

put this into practice under supervision of the farmer

on a real farm. You’ll go on field trips to sales yards,

meat works, research centres and the National

Agricultural Fieldays.



Location: Wintec’s Regional Campus, Te Kuiti

Complete this program and you will earn

a Certificate in Rural Technology (Level 3).

Work on a dairy, sheep, deer or cattle farm or pursue a career as a rural

contractor such as fencer, milker or tractor driver. Or enrol in the level 4

certificate in technology course that could lead to entry into science and

engineering careers i.e lab assistant.
