Reception Class 1, Term 5
Curriculum Bulletin
Dear Parents/Carers,
The children have settled brilliantly after their break and are excited about thisterm’s ‘Superhero’ topic. Please can you bring in your unwanted recycling for
‘heroic’ junk modelling and a big thank you for your ‘cape’ material donations. I
would also like to say a huge thank you to all the parents who come in to school
and read with the children on a weekly basis. They are not only benefiting from the
experience but really enjoying it too. Thank you for being so reliable and for
integrating so smoothly into the school day.
During our ‘Heroes’ topic we will be looking at ‘people who help us’ within the
community. If any of you are Police Officers, Fire Officers, Doctors, Nurses or
Dentists etc and would like to come in and speak to the classes, please let us
know.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on the 6th
May for the
children’s assembly!

dressing skills and encouraging children to
take responsibility for their own belongings.
Communication Language and Literacy:
This term the children will be using ‘Heroes’
to inspire different kinds of writing. This

stories and word explosions e.g. ‘POW!’
Through drama activities we will be focusing
on performance skills such as awareness ofthe listener and confident, expressive
speaking.

This term we will be focusing on number bonds
to 10 and simple addition and subtraction.
This will involve children becoming confident
using symbols such as ‘+’ and ‘=’.
Knowledge and Understanding of the
World:
The focus this term will be on building with
a purpose, using both small and large
equipment. We will be looking at recyclingand how this helps look after our
environment.

their movements. We will also

Sex and Relationship
Education ‘SRE’
This term we will be introducing
SRE to the children. The unit for
Reception has been divided into 4topics. These are as follows:
1. Myself and Others This topic will focus on
recognising feelings and
understanding that their
behaviour affects other people,
especially when angry.2. Family Networks
This topic will focus on family
and friends caring for one
another.
3. Body Awareness
This topic will focus on
appreciation of their bodies, its
capabilities and uniqueness
4. Hygiene
This topic will focus on
understanding the importance of hygiene.
Visitor Lanyards
Can I remind parents who are
coming in to help with readingetc, to please sign in at the office
and wear a visitor lanyard so thatyou can be identified when in the
school.
Talking of helpers....... we will soon be
asking for those of you who are able to
spare an hour of your valuable time to
come in and help our little heroes make
their capes!
Story Time
I would like to appeal to parents who
speak another language to come into
school and share stories with the class.
It is important that we value each andevery culture and the whole class would
benefit. If you’re interested please
come and speak to me.
Water Bottles!!
Please can your child bring a water
bottle to school with them each day.
Although they have access to water, Ifeel it would be more hygienic if they
had their own bottle that they couldindependently access whenever
necessary, especially as the weather is
getting warmer. Thanks to the majority
of you who are already doing this.
