The holidays are upon us once again, and with plenty of reasons to celebrate, toast and enjoy the company of family and friends. This year happens to be worthy of extra celebra-tion for us at Zachys, as we are celebrating our 75th Anniversary. It’s hard to believe we’ve been serving the wine and spirits needs of Scarsdale, Westchester, New York, the USA, and beyond, for 75 years now… We’ve seen epic vintages, classic vintages, new releases upon new releases, the rosé boom, the introduction of the screwcap, new appellation declarations, new winemakers, old winemakers, and so much more. We find ourselves in the impossible position this year of having a bevy of incredible selections from across the globe – the recent vintages of 2015, 2016, 2017 and soon to be 2018, have been classic and monumental for many of the world’s major wine producing regions, up to and includ-ing a few of my personal favorites (Tuscany!), but I’d be remiss if I didn’t also mention Bor-deaux, Burgundy, Napa, and recent releases of 2008 Champagne, just to name a few!

All of us at Zachys want to be here to support your holiday wine and spirits needs. The new format of our holiday mailer has gotten rave reviews, as it is now more streamlined with the addition of our Holiday Signature Selections highlights (i.e. the wines we really love this year). With one of the nation’s premier selections of wine and spirits (currently over 6,000 selections available!), there is something for everyone, but a “laundry list” of products can make you go cross-eyed. We feel that pulling out the highlights of all the great regions and vintages will open the door and pique your interest to learn more on www.zachys.com.

We have had an INCREDIBLE string of vintages from across the globe to choose from, so we found it especially hard to choose what products to feature this year. We felt the best way to show off “The Zachys Difference” would be for us to steer you towards the best of the best from:

Bordeaux • Italy • Vintage Port • Red Burgundy • White Burgundy • The Rhône Valley • Champagne • Spain • Chile & Argentina • Oregon • California • Germany

For each of the above regions, we have taken the time to highlight a “can’t miss” wine supported by a cast of similar all-stars that are equally as exciting. The store is brimming with new-release vintages from all the major wine-producing regions of the world. There are plenty of cellar treasures and everyday party pleasers to be sought out on the shelves of the store that will create a big buzz during the holidays. As always, what I am most proud of is not the bottles that adorn my shelves or the cases stacked in the warehouse, but my dedicated staff that is here every day to help you in the store, on the phone, via email, and the website. We are here seven days a week throughout the entire holiday season, welcoming your visits to the store, calls on the phone and electronic inquiries. Whatever way you are most comfortable connecting with your wine choices, we are here to assist you.

We wish all of you a safe and happy holiday season.

2016 Château Saint-Pierre 2016 Château Calon-SegurZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: The critics and the trade are calling the 97-point 2016 vintage “The Year of Saint-Julien.” And for Zachys it begins once again with the true sleeper of the year, the 2016 Saint-Pierre (96JS/94+WA/94AG/95ZBT). In this benchmark vintage, the Saint-Pierre is, as Neal Martin states, “one of the most Pauillac-like Château Saint-Pierres that I have tasted, a very well crafted, almost understated but sophisticated wine that will age for 20 to 30 years. This is a fantastic Saint Julien.”

In fact, it is the little Château Saint-Pierre that is one of the 2016 releases we are most excited to share. In many ways Saint-Pierre represents Bordeaux’s best kept secret. The historic Château, with its scattered vines positioned next to Ducru-Beaucaillou, remains the smallest Cru Classé in all of Saint-Julien. As a result, production is petit but demand is high for this limited production, un-der the radar gem. Unfortunately, even Zachys does not receive much. In fact, we only re-ceived three cases each of Château Saint-Pierre 2010 (97WA) and the 2009 (98WA), both direct from Bordeaux. Antonio Galloni has stated it best, “Saint-Julien is the unquestioned star of 2016,” and that begins with the likes of Gloria, Leoville Barton, Leoville Poyferré, and our featured wine, Saint-Pierre!

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

(96+ Points, Jeb Dunnuck) 96 Points, James Suckling, jamesuckling.com: “This is fantas-

tic, offering lots of fresh tobacco and blackcurrants and undertones of hazelnuts and chocolate.

Full-bodied with firm and chewy tannins, yet ever so polished and refined. One of the most struc-

tured St. Pierre’s in years. A blend of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and 6% Cabernet

Franc. Try from 2024.” 2/19

ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: The strong words for Bordeaux 2016 continue… this time with what Antonio Galloni called, “the best Saint-Estèphe wine of the vintage,” the 2016 Calon-Segur (98JS/97AG/97JD/96NM). But the buzz on the wine started two years ago when Neal Martin exclaimed, “this is easily the best Calon-Ségur that I have tasted from barrel.” We agreed, the jaw-dropping expression was our top 10 MUST BUY from the 2016 en primeur campaign. As a result of this overwhelming praise, we SOLD OUT of our allocation five times over. Well, now tasted from bottle, Jeb Dunnuck echoes this sentiment with “A monumental wine in the making, the 2016 Château Calon-Ségur... My money is on it being the greatest wine ever made at this address.” Unfortunately, the now elusive wine is difficult to secure – less than ten merchants across the country have the wine to offer. Well, Zachys has secured a final 15 cases AND the highly-anticipated second wine and SMART BUY pick, 2016 Marquis de Calon (93AG/93JS), has arrived!

The iconic Saint-Estèphe Château, with a history that dates back to the 14th century, is known for producing firm, structured, and classic wines – built for aging. Calon-Ségur is etched in the minds of connoisseurs and enthusiasts, alike, with the historic wine quote, “I make wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart lies at Calon.” The famous words from the former and legendary owner, Nicolas-Alexandre (also known as the “Prince of the Vines” with ownership of Bordeaux’s most renowned estates), are commemorated with a heart on the label that has positioned it as the perfect date wine to share on a special day.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

(98 Points, James Suckling) 97 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: “The 2016 Calon Ségur is

dense and radiant on the palate, just as it was from barrel. Even with all of its intensity, the 2016

is distinguished by its sense of freshness, lift and nuance, much of which comes from the 18%

Cabernet Franc in the blend….In short, the 2016 Calon Ségur is a wine of pure and total sensual-

ity. Technical Director Vincent Millet and his team did a tremendous job with the 2016. Tasted three

times.” 1/19 “Don’t miss it! As of today, the best Saint-Estèphe wine of the vintage.” 4/17 Saint Pierre 2016 (96+JD/96JS) {#422418} ............................................. 82.99 72.99(1.5L) {#423606} ..................................................................................... 169.99 149.99(3.0L) {#423607} ..................................................................................... 374.99 324.99(6.0L) {#423608} ..................................................................................... 749.99 649.99

Beausejour Duffau-Lagarrosse 2015 La Gravette de (Vieux Chateau) CertanZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: Without a doubt, the 2015 and 2016 vintages in Bor-

deaux can be credited for creating a renewed energy and excitement, not just for Bordeaux, but more specifically the ancient region of Saint-Émilion. Jeb Dunnuck perhaps said it best, “in short, 2015 produced a bevy of ripe, sexy, opulent wines that share similarities to the 2009s with their sumptu-ous, already accessible personalities.” And without a doubt, these personalities showed best in the historic rising stars of Figeac, and our insider favorite, Beausejour Duffau-Lagarrosse. In the case of Beausejour, this is one of those small six-hectare châteaux, or more appropriately described small Burgundian-styled estate, that has some of the most prized real estate in all of Bordeaux, as evidenced in Parker’s above quote. More importantly, it is a wine where the terroir speaks through the opulence of the vintage. In tasting the wine from barrel and on three occasions in bottle, we agree with Jeb Dunnuck, “this incredible Saint-Emilion is unquestionably one of the wines of the vintage. Do not miss it.”

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

98 Points, Jeb Dunnuck: “This incredible blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc offers

sensational purity in its crème de cassis, blueberry, graphite, lead pencil, licoice and forest floor-

driven aromas and flavors. This is a big, rich, opulent wine, yet it has awesome purity and focus, with

a distinct minerality keeping it fresh, focused and lively on the palate. Possessing ripe, sweet tannin,

an inherent elegance and purity, perfect balance, and an awesome finish, this incredible Saint-Emil-

ion is unquestionably one of the wines of the vintage. Do not miss it.” 11/17

ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: Zachys continues to celebrate the 2015 vintage of Bordeaux. In particular, we are paying close attention to the region of Pomerol and the little cult wine of Vieux Château Certan you may not know, La Gravette (94JS/94+ZBT). Neal Martin said it best more than two years ago, “The simple fact is that Pomerol boasts a clutch of potentially astonishing wines that play an important role fueling positive sentiment towards this vintage.” It is a quote that bears re-peating and there is no doubt about it, 2015 Bordeaux remains hot, and it is not just in the regions of Margaux and Pessac-Léognan; the small and treasured appellation of Pomerol cannot be over-looked. In fact, in 2015 there are many tiny estates that challenged their 1998, 2009 and 2010 performances, which are widely considered benchmarks for the region. When Pomerol is on, there are few wines in the world that deliver such a sensual pleasure with underlying struc-ture from the glass. We experienced many examples of this in 2017 and 2016, but as a whole, the region’s finest moment may just be 2015.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

(94 Points, James Suckling) 92 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: “The 2015 La Gravette de

Certan is a stellar second wine that shows just how fabulous the vintage is in Pomerol. Inky plum,

blueberry, mint, lavender and spice notes give the Gravette its dark, sumptuous personality. La

Gravette, Vieux Château Certan’s second wine, emerges mostly from the younger vines on the

property. Drink it over the next 10-20 years.” 2/18

2016 Château Haut-Bailly 2016 Château Grand-Puy-LacosteZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: The artisanal neighbor of the legendary Château Haut-Brion offers a pedigree of over 500 years, from the ancient gravelly soils and 120-year-old vines of Pessac-Léognan. In fact, in the early 1900s, the wines of Haut-Bailly demanded more than Lafite, Mouton, and Latour on restaurant wine lists around the world. Today, it is once again Bordeaux’s hottest property alongside the likes of Vieux Château Certan and Château Canon, and few clarets are as difficult to restock. When you consider that the 2016 Château Haut-Brion commands $650+ and you com-pare the nearby 2016 Château Haut-Bailly (97WA/98JS/97+AG/97De) at $124, you begin to realize the extraordinary value this artisanal Château delivers. Neal Martin was correct when he stated, “Let’s cut to the chase: 2016 is a fantastic, sublime and at times entrancing vintage. The 2016 vintage in Bordeaux will surely be seen as a high point of this decade, though the 2015s are very close in overall quality.” Well, he continues on and asks the question, is this “the best Haut-Bailly in the modern era?” We emphatically say yes, and have selected Haut-Bailly to represent the wines of Pessac-Léognan this holiday season! And don’t forget about one of our favorite sleeper Bordeaux, the overachieving 2006 Haut-Bailly.

97 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: “The 2016 Haut-Bailly was mightily impressive when tasted from

barrel. Now, matured in 50% new oak and bottled at the end of April 2018 (they prefer to bottle

before spring here), it has a very well defined bouquet of black fruit, graphite, crushed stone and

light rose petal aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with quite

grippy tannin. This Haut-Bailly feels pure and classic in style, offering well-judged acidity and a

sophisticated, quite tensile finish that lingers long in the mouth. I suspect this might close down in

a year or two and deserves perhaps 8 to 10 years in bottle to show what it can really do. The best

Haut-Bailly in the modern era? For certain. Drink 2026-2050.”

ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: If, like us, you love classic claret, then you know it begins with Grand-Puy-Lacoste, the fabled overachieving 5th Growth that has, once again, delivered affordable cru classé Pauillac. Best of all, it challenges the powerhouse Pauillac stable of top growth Bordeaux located down the road and does it at a fraction of the price!

Grand-Puy-Lacoste is the American favorite that produces wines that epitomize the old classic style of the Médoc with its concentration, structure and elegance, offering signature notes of black cur-rant, cassis, cedar, and tobacco. This is affordable Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux that can age 30 years beautifully and is brilliantly captured by the newly-arrived 2016 Grand-Puy-Lacoste (97JS/96De/95+AG) at just $89 - a wine that Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate called, “classic Pauillac to its core.”

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

97 Points, James Suckling, jamessuckling.com: “A neoclassical edition of Grand-Puy-Lacoste,

this has cedar, graphite, deeply integrated cedar and spicy-oak influence and a very fresh array of

ripe blackberries, dark cherries and cassis. The palate is so seamless. It builds beautifully and deliv-

ers a long, seamless array of perfectly ripe dark fruit, swathed in fine, firm, ascending layers of tan-

nins. As good as we have seen in recent vintages, this is a star of the vintage. Try from 2024.” 1/19

1985 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou2016 Château Prieuré-Lichine ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: “The 1985 Ducru is one of my all-time favorites. I would

take whatever you can spare, from your allocation.” We love this recent quote from an enthusiast, and it is one of many. For Zachys, there is no better review in wine, than the response of many customers coming back and emphatically asking for more of the same wine. While all eyes are on the arrivals of the 2016s and the releases of the 2018s, Zachys has once again taken a step back – 34 years that is… As you may know by now, one wine that captivated us the most on a recent buying trip to Bordeaux wasn’t just the 2016 or 2018 Ducru-Beaucaillou – in fact, it was also revisiting the thirty-four-year-old 1985 re-lease that we were fortunate to experience, once again. The fabled and beloved Second Growth, that began in the 13th century and was famously coined “the Lafite Rothschild of Saint-Julien” by Robert Parker, remains the Zachys signature for new and old releases.

This is an exceptionally rare opportunity to taste the Second Growth Bordeaux the way it was intended to be, with pedigree, maturity and perfectly stored conditions! The 1985 is a wine that impresses today, showcasing the elegance that Saint-Julien can convey with age along with the charm of the vintage. It is also an example of “When Critics and Ratings Miss,” and Parker or others have not gotten around to tasting and rerating this deserving wine! It is our job to convey these special finds and we are offering this special pricing through the end of the year.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

95 Points, Christopher Deas, Zachys Buying Team (April/2014): “While Robert Parker noted this is

“A wine of extraordinary charm and elegance,” it is a wine that he underestimated like many. This wine is

all about elegance, no hard edges, classic St Julien cedar, truffle, and damp earth are joined by tobacco

and cinnamon. Tongue-staining, long finish. There is a reason why 1,100 bottles have been sold, with 35

years of age from the fabled 2nd Growth – this is the greatest value in aged Bordeaux.”

ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: This historic rising star of Margaux, located just down the road from Rauzan Segla and Palmer, delivered one of the overachieving values in 2016 and it ar-rived at Zachys just in time for the holidays. In fact, the 2016 Prieuré Lichine (96AG/94De), along with the 2015, represents the highest rated release we have seen in more than three decades of reviews, with Antonio Galloni emphatically calling it “all class” and, “one of the sleepers of the vintage. We agree, and if you appreciate the rich and silky elegance or “liquid cashmere” that is often associated with the Margaux appellation, 2016 is certainly a vintage to explore and invest. A worthy follow-up to the 2015 Margaux vintage, 2016 is another one of the greatest modern-day vintages we have seen as a whole here since 1983.

At just $49, the value in 2016 undoubtedly begins with the Grand Cru Classé Prieuré-Lichine. Decanter Magazine has accurately observed, “this Margaux estate has really started to punch above its historical position as a fourth growth.” For Zachys, these are brilliantly perfumed wines with textural richness and silky tannins, offering what we love best from Margaux, el-egance with approachability that you do not need to wait on for years. It should be noted, this is a wine that commands $75 elsewhere and we are offering it today for $49.99.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

96 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: “The 2016 Prieuré-Lichine is all class. Floral, silky and nuanced

to the core, the 2016 is a wine of pure and total seduction. Freshly cut flowers, vibrant red fruit and

creamy tannins all add to the wine’s undeniable allure. In 2016, Prieuré-Lichine is all class, not to men-

tion one of the sleepers of the vintage. Don’t miss it!” 1/19

SUPER TUSCAN RECOMMENDATIONS: | REG $ SALE $

2016 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: You have heard us say it over the past year, how does a wine like Sassicaia surpass its 2015 vintage performance as Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year? How about a 100-point review from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate for the 2016, the first time since the im-mortal and iconic 1985! The 2016 Tuscan vintage from the Tuscan hills and medieval hamlet of Bolgheri created quite a stir, already challenging and even surpassing the buzz set in 2015. Why? Well, Bordeaux is not the only region that experienced a benchmark back-to-back vintage streak in 2015 and 2016. And just like Bordeaux, the 2015 was a ripe and explosive vintage, while 2016 is more classic and balanced, recalling elements of 2006 and 2010 for Tuscany – from Bolgheri to Montalcino. Many of the 2016s are showing more pinpoint sharpness and precision, with a tad more acidity – the perfect complement to the more flamboyant 2015s. Sassicaia is the pinnacle expression from these two incredible 2015 and 2016 back-to-back 97-point vintages. But it does not end with Sassicaia; in 2015 and 2016 Tuscany, a number of world-class producers achieved perfect and near-perfect scores at all levels and price points. Along with the 2016 Sassicaia (100WA) we’ve included a number of incredible wines perfect for gifting or drinking for any Italian wine aficionado.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

100 Points, Monica Larner, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: ”The 2016 Sassicaia is a wine of

soaring achievement. This wine is chiseled and sharp with blackberry, ripe cherry, grilled herb and

barbecue spice. The aromas flow from the glass in a continuous stream and are all marked by radi-

ant intensity. The mouthfeel is long and powerful. The crisp linearity of the wine’s tannic backbone

is perfectly measured to the volume and depth of the fruit flavors. To my mind, the 2016 Sassicaia

stands tall next to the epic 1985 vintage that set the ultimate benchmark for vino italiano.” 1/19.

CHIANTI CLASSICO RECOMMENDATIONS: | REG $ SALE $

2016 Felsina Chianti Classico Riserva ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: To say the recent excitement for the wines of Chianti Classico has been monumental would be an understatement. Monica Larner of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate noted: “This is an exceptional group of wines that mark an exciting chapter for Chianti Classico. The momentum behind this region is just phenomenal…no other Italian wine appellation matches Chianti Classico at the moment for its sense of excitement, innovation and, dare I say it, unity of vision. There is a level of excitement and energy here that reminds me of a nascent wine region (like Etna, for example). That electricity is impossibly rare to find in a wine region like the storied Chianti Classico, now past its 300th birthday.” This is undoubtedly a compelling statement about Chianti experiencing a modern-day wine renaissance with the historic back-to-back 2015 and 2016 vintages. She is not alone in her acco-lades for the appellation; Antonio Galloni, James Suckling, and Bruce Sanderson have also highly praised the wines of both vintages, and Wine Spectator awarded both vintages 97 points.

What we love best is that in great vintages, you can find exceptional quality at all price points. We’ve included a few Chiantis from 2015, 2016, and new releases from 2017, all perfect for holiday entertaining.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

94 Points, Monica Larner, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “Streamlined and elegant, this

mid-weight red trots out notes of grilled herb and dark fruit nuances that segue to spice, tilled earth

and savory tobacco, with great complexity. This 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Berardenga is still

a bit closed and tight, but this beautiful wine boasts all the best qualities of this vintage. It shows

elegance and power, two contrasting characteristics that only work well together in the world’s most

achieved expressions. The most satisfying aspect of this Riserva is the crisp acidity on the close that

keeps the palate refreshed and ready for the next sip.” 05/19

VALUE ITALIAN RECOMMENDATIONS: | REG $ SALE $

2014 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: Who says you have to spend a lot on great quality wines for the holiday?! Sure, there are incredible collectibles to be found from Piedmont to Tuscany, but Italy offers a plethora of unbeatable value-driven selections that offer great approachability on your palate and your wallet. From mineral-driven, crisp whites to the elegant reds from Piedmont and Montalcino, including the benchmark Brunello producer Casanova di Neri. Don’t miss one of the best values from Piedmont with the 2017 Einaudi Dolcetto Dogliani for under $15, and from Super Tuscan patriarch Sassicaia, the entry-level wine 2016 Le Difese (91WE) for only $24.99. Whatever your taste, we have over 100 selections under $50 from across Italy perfect for holiday entertaining and gift giving. These are your everyday values you can stock up on guilt free.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

94 Points, J. d’Angleo, International Wine Review: “The 2014 Brunello di Montalcino

from Casanova di Neri is absolutely fabulous. In 2014 Giacomo and Giovanni Neri decided

to include all the fruit from Cerretalto and Tenuta Nuova in their normal Brunello, and it

has definitely paid off, as this is one of the most successful wine from the vintage. This instantly

begins to impress as it opens to pretty aromatics of dried red and dark berries, exotic spices, dried

violets and smokey nuances all taking shape. On the palate this is absolutely gorgeous, silky and

refined, displaying beautiful overall balance and finesse, which is backed by lovely underlying acid-

ity that frames the satiny finish. While it is certainly somewhat disappointing not to see one of my

personal favorite wines, Tenuta Nuova, in 2014, I absolutely love the decision and sacrifice that was

made in order to achieve the best possible results given the difficult conditions of the vintage.” 4/19.

LARGE FORMAT ITALIAN RECOMMENDATIONS: | REG $ SALE $

2016 Flaccianello della Pieve FontodiZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: What better way to celebrate the holidays than with big bottles from Barolo, Brunello, Barbaresco, and Tuscany? Does it get much better than sharing your favorite Italian wines with your closest friends and family? The an-swer is YES - when it comes in a big bottle, especially an impressive 27-liter Primat. We say, no party should be without a few big bottles! This holiday season we are present-ing you with a few of Zachys’ top Italian large formats to share with friends and family. From Magnums to a rare 100-point 27-liter Primat bottle of 2016 Fontodi Flaccianello delle Pieve, or an 18-liter Melchior of the 95-point 2016 Tenuta San Guido Guidalber-to! Italy’s iconic monovarietal Super Tuscan, Flaccianello, recently received 100-point perfection for the first time in more than four decades of reviews with the release of the 2016 vintage. It is quite an accomplishment when you consider that out of more than 100,000 reviews on Italian wine from The Wine Advocate, it has only happened a mere 21 times. 2016 Flaccianello now sits alongside the immortal likes of 1985 Sassicaia (100WA), 1990 Le Pergole Torte (100WA), and 2010 Monfortino (100WA). We have an incredible selection of large format Italians dating back to 1978 that will surely impress. Don’t miss highly-rated gems from the iconic producers Antinori, Rin-aldi, Sassicaia, Valdicava and many more. These are the perfect bottles for any party and make impressive gifts for your favorite wine enthusiast! There are limited quanti-ties of many of these gems, and once they’re gone, they’re GONE!

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

100 Points, Monica Larner, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “Fontodi’s 2016 Flac-

cianello della Pieve is a masterpiece. The bouquet opens to dark cherry, blue flower and

tilled earth. The tannins are taut, almost crunchy, and the wine offers profound pedigree and

persistence that is driven by the evident acidity. That depth is what stands out most. ” 07/19

MATURE ITALIAN RECOMMENDATIONS: | REG $ SALE $

2010 Dal Forno Romano Amarone della ValpolicellaZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: Finding rare mature wines can be a challenge. Here at Zachys, we dug deep to uncover a treasure trove of rare vintage finds from across Italy with a minimum age of 10 years and up to 48 years of age. What makes for a better holiday gift or celebration than a selection of wines spanning 48 years?! Whether you’re looking for birth year wines to hold mature and aged Italian Barolos to enjoy with white truffles, or even the cult Amarone Producer, Dal Forno, paired with that holiday roast, there’s something for everyone on this list. Robert Parker once noted “...anyone who has tasted a Dal Forno offering realizes this is the reference point for prodigious Valpolicella and Amarone. It possesses off the chart levels of complexity, richness, aging potential, and reveals a style totally unlike anything else produced in the region...” Over the years, Dal Forno’s wines have become some of the most sought after, both at auction and retail – this is best indicated when looking at old releases and large formats – they are simply impossible to come by and undoubtedly appreciate quickly. Even when compared with Quintarelli, the mystical passito wines of Dal Forno are simply the high-est rated Amarone of all time. For this holiday season, we have tracked down a few Dal Forno Amarones with age, including the 2010 Dal Forno Amarone (98WA), along with rare finds from Aldo Conterno Barolo Gran Bussia dating back to 1971 and Piedmont Icon Giuseppe Rinaldi Barolos from the classic 2001 Piedmont vintage. These are true collector treasures that are worth the splurge this holiday season!

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

98 Points, Monica Larner, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “This is a deeply communicative

and articulate wine that boasts immense power and persistence. The 2010 Amarone della Valpoli-

cella Monte Lodoletta is a creation of enormous beauty and unflinching intensity. The wine speaks at

loud volumes with black cherry, spice, tarry smoke, barbecue marinade and grilled rosemary. ” 05/17

VALUE RED BURGUNDY RECOMMENDATIONS: | REG $ SALE $

2015 Richoux IrancyZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: Richoux’s Irancy (92+WA/93ZBT) is a rare red that of-fers a taste of Burgundy pedigree and finesse at an approachable price; in fact, it is a $27 village level Bourgogne rouge that can age 25 years from the 96-point vintage. Better yet, it is one of those little overachieving wines from one of Burgundy’s most respected producers of the north that you might not know. It is here in the picturesque village of Irancy that the Richoux family has been producing old-vine Pinot Noir on the prized kimmeridgian and limestone soils since 1610. In fact, with the Domaine’s close proximity to Chablis, it is Richoux that has been called on to help with the prized wines of Dauvissat. In 2015, just 5,000 cases were made for the world. It is a near-perfect expression of a generic appella-tion wine delivering immediate enjoyment with a touch of sophistication from the noble varietal - sans the crazy expensive 2015 price tag. This is an overachieving appellation wine with a deep respect to organics that has finally been referenced by critics correctly, as Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate stated it best, “Richoux’s Irancy’s are nothing short of a revelation…This is a domaine with which all serious Burgundy lovers will want to acquaint themselves.”

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

92+ Points, William Kelley, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “The 2015 Irancy is superb, unfurling

in the glass with an inviting bouquet of juicy red cherries, licorice and rose petals. On the palate, it’s

medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, its stunning depth of fruit concealing velvety tannic struc-

ture, all underpinned by succulent acids. While its almost lavish expression of fruit makes it superfi-

cially approachable, the real excitement will come with bottle age—and as Richoux’s track record

demonstrates, in a vintage such as 2015 his wines will see out two decades in style.”

CHABLIS RECOMMENDATIONS: | REG $ SALE $

2018 Patrick Piuze Chablis Terroir de ChablisZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: James Suckling recently published his thoughts on the 2018 vintage in Chablis, making it clear once again, that Patrick Piuze is one of the most electrify-ing producers in Burgundy. In fact, the highest rated 2018 in the report of over 200 wines, outpacing Raveneau, Dauvissat, and Christian Moreau, was the Grand Cru Les Preuses (96JS) from Patrick Piuze. Piuze quickly earned high praise from critics, sommeliers and Burgundy aficionados, alike, for his terroir-driven Chablis. What we love best about Patrick Piuze is his dedication to outstanding qual-ity, purity of place and varietal, and exceptional value, with his terroir-driven “lieux dits” village Chablis! What’s more, if you haven’t already heard, this is the vintage to buy in quantity! The 2018 vintage in Chablis is already being called “legendary” and “the best vintage in 20 years,” or as Clive Coates strongly stated, “the season could hardly have been better.” For us the greatness of the vintage begins with the Zachys Signature 2018 Piuze Chablis Terroir de Chablis at just $24.99.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

91+ Points, Christopher Deas, Zachys Buying Team: “As you know we love rock juice at Zachys.

Where else can you find quality Premier Cru at under $49, or a rare pinnacle Grand Cru expression un-

der $99? Or how about this truly Terroir-driven gem under $25?! This particular bottling derives from

a plot of vines that are on the same north-facing slope as the prestigious Premier Cru, La Forest for

an excellent introduction to the region and the 2018 vintage. Expect to find an abundance of green

apple, lime, white flowers, brown spice, and flint. There is weight and purity of fruit to accompany

the signature zip here and it is another example that there is so much more to explore in the region

than Dauvissat, Raveneau, Drion, and Fevre – and it begins with the rising star Patrick Piuze.”

2016 Bouchard Pere et Fils Beaune Greves Vigne de l`Enfant JésusZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: Year after year, Bouchard Père et Fils’ flagship wine Beaune Grèves 1er Cru Vigne de l`Enfant Jésus, is a standout success in the wide range this historic Domaine offers. In 2016, this overachieving Premier Cru may even turn out to be the highest rated bottling to date, challenging the iconic 2005, 2010, and 2015. It’s the 275+ year-old, historic domaine and “one of the legendary wines of the Beaune.” Having farmed the vineyard for over 100 years, the Bouchard family knows how grow the best fruit possible from the plot. Le Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus sits at the heart of the Premier Cru Vineyard Beaune Grèves and not only is it Bouchard’s flagship wine but quite possibly the most important and collected red wine of all the Beaune reds.

The critics tasted the 2016 earlier this year and were unanimously impressed: “A distinct step up,” “Really impressive,” “…one of the best quality-to-price ratio wines in 2016,” the praise goes on... In fact, the Zachys team uncorked a bottle this week and can say that this wine continues to overdeliver.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

93-94 Points, James Suckling: “Dark fruits in 2016. The DNA of long, silky tannins is alive and well

here. A suave and polished style with an attractive core of flavorsome, elegant mid-palate fruits. Re-

ally impressive. Try from 2022.” 2/18

2017 Domaine de Cherisey Puligny-Montrachet Hameau de BlagnyZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: Established by the Cistercian Monks, the Blagny vineyard is more than 1,000 years old! Even today, the site still has buildings which date back to this monastic past. And while Martelet de Cherisey (more commonly referred to as Domaine de Cherisey or Comtesse de Cherisey) was born in 1811, they did not start bottling their own Domaine wines until 2000, making this one of the most watched rising stars of the region by trade insiders. In fact, the great Kermit Lynch said to me in early 2015 the most powerful statement I’ve ever heard him say, “I am more excited about the wines of Domaine de Chérisey than I was when I discovered Raveneau and Coche Dury.” This is a completely sustainable farm – they use wood from their forest to make the barrels, and native yeasts cultivated from the vineyards. The passion and sense of place that Bernard pours into his wine is off the charts. All of Cherisey’s Premier Cru Vines are at least 60 years old, and this remains “an address that must rank among the most underrated sources for fine white Burgundy in the contemporary Côte de Beaune.” Their Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Hameau de Blagny is from vines planted in 1950 on the south side of Blagny, level with the village, just above Puligny Truffières. It is a wine that combines the power and richness of Meursault with the ethereal finesse of Puligny. From the largest white Burgundy crop since 2009, the 2017 bottling is a “beautifully transparent expres-sion,” that embodies the elegance of the vintage for Puligny that will delight lovers of white Burgundy, both in its youth and with a few years of age.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

92-94 Points, William Kelley, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet

1er Cru Hameau de Blagny offers up an ethereal nose of citrus oil, white flowers and crushed

chalk. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, taut and searingly mineral, yet it is neither

tart nor austere; it’s simply a beautifully transparent expression of this high-altitude, stony site. The

chalky, penetrating finish will delight lovers of racy white Burgundy.” 01/19

BEAUJOLAIS RECOMMENDATIONS: | REG $ SALE $

2017 Michel Guignier Beaujolais ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: It started with Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate announc-ing, “there has never been a better time for consumers to discover the wines of this underrated region.” Then John Gilman chimed in on the 2017 Beaujolais vintage, attributing it with “The Opulence of 2015 Crossed with the More Classical Aesthetic Elements of 2016.” And more recently, James Suckling fol-lowed with strong words, noting “The region is on a roll… What a moment it is having. Choose your wines to cellar and drink the rest of these excellent 2017 wines with gusto. They really are so good.”

Michel Guignier is a 4th generation vigneron in the heart of the Morgon cru. Inspired by the “Gang of Four,” he is a refreshing return to the traditional, more natural methods of producing true, terroir-driven Beaujolais from prized sites and old vines. While production has always been limited, the wines are becoming even more allocated and difficult to find, and 2017 is a vintage where you’ll want to go deep on some of the best expressions of the region. With age, we believe these are Beaujolais you can sneak into a Burgundy blind tasting and surprise a few tasters. And while the #1 rated wine of the vintage from Guignier’s ancient low-yielding vines, the 2017 Michel Guignier Morgon Canon (97JS), is getting all the attention, do not overlook the entry-level AOC Beaujolais offering for just $13.99. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate called it “a delicious wine that will shine in the near-term,” and James Suckling agrees, anointing it with 92 points.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

92 Points, James Suckling: “Bright flowers and small red berries on the nose that lead to a very plush and juicy yet elegant palate. So fresh. From organically grown grapes.” 02/19

ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: These masters of the Southern Rhône did exactly what the best winemakers do in a warm vintage like 2017 – make some of the very best wines in the region! We are presenting the new releases from the estate that Robert Parker has called “one of my favorites in the southern Rhône.” The Sabon family has a long history in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in fact even longer than Beaucastel, they can trace their winemaking roots back to 1540. All the while they’ve been bottling fantas-tic wine across all price points.

Their flagship “Secret des Sabon” is notoriously difficult to find and has achieved legendary status in many wine circles; Robert Parker has even gone as far as calling it “one of the greatest wines produced on the planet.” While much of the attention is on this rare cuvée, that “flirts with perfection,” our strong recom-mendation for value is the Cuvée Reserve (95WA/95JD) – the highest rated version of this cuvée to date. This is classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape that is poised to deliver the most “bang for your buck,” and is an excellent option for the main course at your next celebration. As Robert Parker’s Wine Advo-cate mentions, “For my money, the best values are the Prestige and Reserve bottlings, which often rival the much pricier and more limited Le Secret de Sabon.”

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

95 Points, Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “...resoundingly floral and packed with red berries and black cherries...It’s probably the best value among the various cuvées this year…. Sabon’s 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve should be a stellar wine worthy of cellaring when it’s released.” 8/19

2016 SOUTHERN RHÔNE RECOMMENDATIONS: | REG $ SALE $

2016 Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf-du-PapeZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: We’ve restocked on the final cases of the 99-point Southern Rhône vintage for the holidays! As indicated by this quote above from Robert Parker, Domaine Charvin is known for their traditional, finesse-driven and handcrafted Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The historic domaine has amassed a cult-like following, much like Rayas, for their organic and traditionally produced wines. In the 99-point 2016 vintage, Charvin delivered one of its finest releases to date, but unfortunate-ly, these are wines that a mere handful of merchants in the U.S. receives - and the quantities are minus-cule. We quickly sold out of our tiny allocation but were able to secure additional cases of this under $55 highlight of the vintage from the fabled Rhône producer, a wine that sells for up to $80 elsewhere.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

97 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com: “Cut from the same cloth as the 2017, only broader and more expansive...it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, multi-dimension texture, incredible elegance, sweet tannins, and a great, great finish. It’s a thrilling wine from a great winemaker. Drink it any time over the coming 20-25 years.” 8/19 “…the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Laurent Charvin is a beauty, and I’d wager one of the finest to date.” 8/18

NORTHERN RHÔNE RECOMMENDATIONS: | REG $ SALE $

2016 Jaboulet Domaine de Thalabert Crozes-HermitageZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: While Châteauneuf-du-Pape is attracting all the attention, we wanted to draw your attention back to one of our signature values of the North. As we have stated be-fore, without a doubt, one of the MUST BUYS for the year continues to be 2015, 2016, and 2017 releases from the Rhône Valley – from Hermitage to Châteauneuf-du-Pape to Côte-Rôtie – and everything in be-tween. In fact, we have not been this excited about three back to back Northern Rhône vintages since the trifecta of 1989, 1990, and 1991. And while 2015 in the Northern Rhône has been trumpeted as the latest “vintage of the century,” the 2016 is more classic and demands attention.

As the strong and historic words from Robert Parker above can attest, one the highlights comes from the fabled “King of the Hill,” but it is not the iconic Hermitage La Chapelle, but rather the value-driven Crozes-Hermitage from 60-80 year-old vines, the 2016 Jaboulet Crozes-Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert. Jeb Dunnuck recently rated this pinnacle expression of the region 94 points, noting, “the estate has been on an incredible roll, with their sensational 2015s last year, and now two strong vintages with their 2016s and 2017s. This is unquestionably the finest set of releases I’ve tasted from the estate, and the top reds rival, and in a number of cases surpass, the 2009s and 2010s.”

We could not agree more as we had this wine for the tenth time just yesterday! It is stunning and a classic expression at the best price in the country.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck: “The 2016 Crozes Hermitage Domaine De Thalabert offers a rocking (and classic) bouquet of ripe black fruits intermixed with notions new saddle leather, pepper, garrigue, and hints of bacon fat. This ripe, medium to full-bodied, silky wine has remarkable purity, is already complex, and finishes with serious length. Drink it over the coming 10-15 years.” 12/18

VINTAGE CHAMPAGNE RECOMMENDATIONS: | REG $ SALE $

2008 Dom Pérignon Brut ChampagneZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: Jeb Dunnuck’s words on the 2008 Dom Perignon Brut Champagne echo our opinion to perfection: “This is a legendary Dom that surpasses all the great vintag-es of Dom I have experience with, including the 1990, 1996, and 2002.” In fact, all the critical enthusiasm for the latest release from the Queen of Luxury Champagne matches ours. We’ve seen insatiable excite-ment for the 2008 vintage releases from Champagne; our first allocation of the 100-point Cristal debut a few months ago SOLD OUT three times over, the 2008 Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill and 2008 Dom Pérignon Legacy Limited Edition quickly followed suit, and we anticipate the same for the standard and traditional Dom Pérignon Brut Champagne (98+AG/98JS/98ZBT/98JG/98JD/99ZBT).

We are pleased to present the patriarch of the region, Dom Pérignon Brut Champagne, and what is a historic release for the House and the most exciting Champagne release in Zachys’ 75-year history – the 2008 vintage Dom Pérignon Brut Champagne. The benchmark year in Champagne also marks the changeover in Chef de Cave from Richard Geoffroy to Vincent Chaperon, who officially took over on January 1st, 2019. Chaperon has worked closely with Geoffroy since 2005 on more than 13 vintages. For the departing icon, he is the first to say that the 2008 is the finest vintage of Dom Pérignon since 1990. The 2008 is also unique in that it is the first vintage of Dom Pérignon to be released out of order – as the 2009 was released last year – a Champagne must for any cellar, indeed.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

98+ Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: “The 2008 Dom Pérignon is fabulous, but quite remarkably, it

was even more open when I tasted it a year ago. Bright, focused and crystalline in its precision, the

2008 is going to need a number of years before it is at its best. Lemon peel, white flowers, mint and

white pepper give the 2008 its chiseled, bright profile. Several recent bottles have all been magnificent.

What I admire most about the 2008 is the way it shows all the focus, translucence and energy that is

such a signature of the year, and yet it is also remarkably deep and vertical. In other words, the 2008 is

a Champagne that plays in three dimensions.” 7/18

BILLECART & ROSÉ CHAMPAGNE RECOMMENDATIONS: | REG $ SALE $

NV Billecart-Salmon Brut RoséZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: Billecart-Salmon continues to set itself apart with its exceptional rosé! Billecart-Salmon’s flagship wine is not only Zachys’ top-selling wine in the category, but arguably the most sought-after rosé Champagne in the country next to the more luxury and vin-tage-driven Cristal Rosé. James Suckling gave this latest bottling of Billecart-Salmon Brut Rosé NV 94 points, calling it “A gorgeous rosé Champagne.” We could not agree more with James. However, their reasonably priced non-vintage rosé is just a start to understanding this historic boutique house. Re-spected Champagne critic Richard Juhlin named the 1959 and 1961 Cuvée Nicolas François Billecarts as the #1 and #2 selections of the top 150 Champagnes of the 20th century. Regardless of the wine, what remains constant across all their Champagne and separates these wines from others is their un-derstated elegance, finesse and longevity. Their wines hold a special place in the hearts of Champagne enthusiasts and aficionados and are surprisingly difficult to obtain – allocations remain limited to select restaurants and merchants. In fact, this Champagne’s former importer of 20+ years was known to ask wine buyers what other wines they carried before selling them a prized bottle of Billecart-Salmon. One had to be worthy of his fine wines. Getting an allocation of “Billy Bubbles” was a badge of honor and to this day is prized by sommeliers and merchants, alike. Their NV Brut Rosé remains a Zachys staple, and perfect sparkler for all holiday festivities.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

93 Points, Stephan Reinhardt, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: ”Pale yet intense pink in color the

Billecart-Salmon NV Brut Rosé is pure, fresh and intense on the nose, with lovely raspberry aromas,

refreshing citrus zest flavors and great definition. On the palate this is a pure, light and vinous rosé

with great finesse and a long, well-structured and even juicy finish. Tasted November 2018.” 12/18

HALF BOTTLE RECOMMENDATIONS: | REG $ SALE $

MV Krug Grande Cuvée 375ML

ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: We can think of no better choice to ring in any cel-ebration or holiday than Zachys #1 Selling Champagne! Half bottles are the perfect format for holiday gifts and parties, and nothing communicates celebration, prestige, and excellence like a bottle of Krug – their “multi-vintage” Grande Cuvée alone remains the number one selling bottle of Champagne at Zachys.

It should be noted that Krug Grande Cuvée is not only the hottest selling non-vintage Champagne at Zachys, but the entire US market as a whole, and as such, it is harder and harder to find and prices are on the rise. The 167th Edition is comprised of 191 different wines from ten or more different years, spanning 16 years beginning with 1995 and finishing with 2011. Talk about mind-dizzying complexity, both in the creation and in the sipping stages! Its final numbers are 47% Pinot Noir, 36% Chardonnay and 17% Pinot Meunier. Year in and year out, this is our pick for toasts, aperitifs, stocking stuffers and more!

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

95+ Points, William Kelley, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “Making its debut this year is Krug’s NV

Grande Cuvée 167ème Édition, a beautiful wine that wafts from the glass with aromas of yellow orchard fruit,

peach and waxy citrus rind, complemented by complex notes of freshly baked bread, walnuts and smoke.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and muscular but incisive, with a deep and concentrated core, a pinpoint

mousse and a long, complex finish. Built around the 2011 vintage, the wine includes reserve wines dating

back to 1995 and was disgorged in the winter of 2017-2018. Readers are advised to give it at least a

couple years of bottle age before popping corks.” 04/19

2010 La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 9042016 Domaine Lafage Bastide Miraflors Vieilles Vignes

ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: As a wine enthusiast and collector, you have likely come to know that 2010 is regarded as one of the great universal vintages of the world, and in Spain’s cel-ebrated region of Rioja, the classic 95-point year challenges the classic benchmarks of 1964, 1973, 1994, 2001, 2004 and 2005. The iconic traditionalists of La Rioja Alta and Lopez de Heredia delivered leaner, structured wines showcasing a more Burgundian sensibility from the indigenous varietals of the area - in 2010 you really get a sense of place or terruño (terroir) while remaining truly classic. Our signature Rioja Gran Reserva just got better and the hot buzz around the store and office this season is the highly an-ticipated debut of the older sibling 2010 La Rioja Alta Rioja Gran Reserva ‘904’ (96+WA/97ZBT)! We sat down with winemaker Julio Saenz, and President, Guillermo de Aranzabal to taste and experience the new release. We have not seen them this excited about a vintage since the 1964 and 2001 releases. In fact, Julio Saenz, emphatically stated, “the 2010 vintage is rated the rare “Excellent,” and is con-sidered the second best vintage of this century.” For the holiday season, we are making this historic bottling available at the special six-pack price of $58.99 per bottle.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

97+ Points, Christopher Deas, Zachys Buying Team: “Tasted three times. This wine screams

two things, Gran Reserva 904 and the classic structure and style of the vaunted 2010 vintage. For

Zachys, this is the finest expression since the 2004 and 2005 and it is one of those releases that

takes you on a journey across the flavor spectrum and spice rack, and you can expect to find nuanc-

es of black cherry, strawberries, red and black currant, citrus, black tea, allspice, Asian spice, clove,

leather, tobacco, coffee beans, and more. At under $60, buy by the cases, as this will age decades!”

ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: For this holiday season, we are highlighting the latest vintage of one of our favorite and fastest selling value reds, the 2016 Domaine Lafage Bastide Miraflors Vieilles Vignes (94JD). With over 1,500 bottles already sold, and over 3,000 bottles of the 2015 sold out last year, we anticipate another huge response for the new release Jeb Dunnuck says might just be “the finest vintage for this cuvée to date.” And just as he did for the “off the charts” 2015, Jeb awarded the 2016 94 points, putting it in the same league, noting, “it reminded me of a mini Syrah from California’s Manfred Krankl (yes I just compared a $14 Syrah to Sine Qua Non).” To put this in perspective, the cult wine Sine Qua Non commands $200+ at retail and auction, if you can find any. In this day and age, when you see an under $15 find with a rating of 94 points, you know it just simply won’t last.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck, jebdunnuck.com: “A wine that almost always over-delivers, the 2016 Côtes du

Roussillon Bastide Miraflors is, I suspect, the finest vintage for this cuvée to date (it’s in the same league

as the off-the-charts 2015). A blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Grenache from Lesquerde and Saint Martin

de Fenouillet (both in the northern part of the Roussillon), aged all in older barrels and concrete tanks, it

boasts rockstar notes of ripe blackberry fruits, spice, dried garrigue, and hints of chocolate. Possessing

a full-bodied, layered mouthfeel, sweet tannins, and sensational purity, it’s another one of those values

that almost seems too good to be true. Drink it any time over the coming 3-4 years.” 11/18

2010 La Rioja Alta Reserva Selección Especial ‘Viña Ardanza’

2017 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port

ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: It remains the biggest announcement in Spanish wine since the release of the 2004 Vega-Sicilia Unico and the 2005 La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 890! We are pleased to present the highly anticipated arrival of the 2010 La Rioja Alta Reserva Selección Especial ‘Viña Ardanza’ (96JS/95WA/94WS). We consider this producer and wine to be one of the pinnacle expressions and symbols for traditional winemaking in Rioja. The new release joins the elite group of benchmark vintages from 1964, 1973, 2001, 2004, and 2005; however, it is the 2010 that some believe to be possibly superior to that of the mythical 1973 and 2001. As a result, for just the fourth time in more than a century, the Rioja Reserva ‘Viña Ardanza’ has been declared and labeled a Seleccion Especial!

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

95 Points, Luis Gutiérrez, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “2010 was a great vintage in Rioja in

general and seems to be exceptional here, with a 2010 Viña Ardanza Selección Especial (what used to

be Reserva Especial) that can challenge any of the recent vintages and hopefully can develop in bottle

to reach the heights of years like 1973 or 1964. The wine is expressive, aromatic, very elegant and

clean, with classical Rioja aromas of long aging in barrel and slow oxidation through the years in

wood. The palate is polished and sleek but shows plenty of energy, with very fine, mostly resolved

tannins and very good harmony and persistence. There is great complexity, and you could start

smelling spice and smoke to move to earthy tones, hints of beef blood, cherries in liqueur, curry,

diesel, old furniture and forest floor. A great Viña Ardanza!”

ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: Today we are celebrating an exciting year of releases with the producer that Robert Parker fittingly labeled as the “Latour of Portugal,” the historic 1744 Taylor Fladgate. The estate has remained 100% family-run throughout its long history of tradition that includes the long, lost art of trodding grapes by foot. Taylor Fladgate has a track record of industry firsts, includ-ing being the first Porto shipping company to purchase vineyards in the Douro Valley, in 1744. And since then, they are the only Porto company that has remained 100% family-run throughout its history (current Wine Director, David Guimaraens, is sixth generation). Furthermore, they were the first to produce a sin-gle-quinta vintage Porto, and the first to create a late bottled vintage bottling. The old walled terraces of the Vinha Velha represent the original part of the Vargellas estate and contain its oldest vines. They have been classified as World Heritage sites and constitute one of the Douro Valley’s most impressive his-toric vineyards as well as the source of one of the rarest and most sought-after of all Vintage Ports. Zachys is pleased to present perfection from some of the most revered vineyards and wines in all the world – it is the potential 100-point 2017 Taylor Fladgate Port (98-100WA/99JS/98NM).

That’s right, something extremely rare has happened in the Douro. Usually, about two to three times a decade, something special happens among the great Houses in the ancient and steep terraces of Portugal’s prized Douro region: a vintage year for Port is fully declared. Not since the 2011 vintage have we seen the Portuguese, British, and critics so excited about a year in Port as we saw with the 2016 release.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

98 Points, Neal Martin, Vinous: “The 2017 Taylor’s Vintage Port comes from their three quintas:

Vargellas, de Terra Feita and do Junco, picking commencing at Vargellas on September 1, the

earliest since 1945. Now this boasts a bold and more flamboyant bouquet vis-à-vis the Croft with

layers of blackcurrant, blueberries, violet and allspice. Wonderful definition here and as it ratchets up

through the gears with aeration manages to maintain impressive delineation. The palate is medium,

rather full-bodied. The first impression is one of freshness, completely disguising that summer’s

dryness and warmth, a disarming finesse built around the frame of tannins that would have been

impossible years ago. It is a silky-smooth Taylor’s, one of the most polished 2017 Vintage Ports with

energy and tension flooding through the finish. Aristocratic as ever, totally Taylor’s, yet still translating

the growing season with aplomb.” 6/19

GERMAN & AUSTRIAN RECOMMENDATIONS: | REG $ SALE $

2018 Keller Riesling Trocken ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: The holiday season calls for our house Riesling! Riesling, white Burgundy, and Sancerre fans take note: these stunning values come from Klaus-Peter Keller, widely regarded as the leading producer of dry Riesling in Germany, with Jancis Robinson repeatedly calling his wines the “German Montrachets.” Keller, who trained at Armand Rousseau and Hubert Lignier in Burgundy, produces an impressive lineup of the greatest vineyards in the Rheinhessen: Pettenthal, Hubacker, Absterde, and Morstein (think Montrachet, La Romanée and La Tâche).

And while Keller’s mysterious, old-vine G-Max cuvée continues to rank as the world’s most expensive dry Riesling, we are offering a taste of the estate at special pricing of just $19.99 per bottle. The entry-level 2018 Keller Riesling Trocken (91JG/92+ZBT) is a “stunning value” and today is challenging the estate’s Grand Cru bottlings of the past. After tasting it in the office on two occasions, we’re making this our house Riesling for the season. Where else can you find this level of quality and pedigree in white wine for just $19.99?

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

91 Points, John Gilman, View from the Cellar: “I cannot recall ever having a better, basic Riesling Trocken

from Klaus-Peter, and I am sure the ramping up of the average age of vines for each bottling is the reason for

this! The bouquet is flat out stunning, soaring from the glass in a complex blend of pink grapefruit, blood orange,

chalky soil tones, wild yeasts, dried flowers and a topnote of orange peel. On the palate the wine is pure, fullish

and again, really deep at the core, with great acidity and grip, superb focus and a very long, very classy and

beautifully complex finish. This is not all that far off the quality level of the GGs fifteen years ago! It is a stun-

ning value. 2019-2050. “ 5/19

2016 Opus OneZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: As you may know by now, Antonio Galloni observed “Two thousand sixteen is shaping up to be a fabulous vintage for Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, trailing only 2013 as the finest vintage of the decade so far. The 2016s continue to impress with their dazzling aro-matic presence, finesse and nuance.” Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate has subsequently rated California’s Cabernet vintage with 98 points, and certainly one of the essential wines of consideration would be the true First Growth of Napa Valley, Opus One’s beloved Cabernet-dominated blend.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

99 Points, James Suckling) 97 Points, Lisa Perotti-Brown, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “Very deep

purple-black, the nose reveals profound notions of chocolate-covered cherries, crème de cassis, blueberry com-

pote and licorice with touches of tobacco, cedar chest, Sichuan pepper, eucalyptus and violets. Full-bodied,

super concentrated and packed with black and blue fruits, the palate is built like a brick house with firm, ripe,

finely grained tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and perfumed. “We had plenty of rain in the

early part of the year,” commented Opus One winemaker Michael Silacci, “followed by an early budbreak.

We were able to pick fairly regularly with an even flow in the cellar.”

2017 Beringer Vineyards Private Reserve Chardonnay 2016 Résonance “Résonance” VineyardZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate this holiday season and Zachys’ 75th Anniversary than with America’s beloved and historic estate – Beringer and their iconic Private Reserve Chardonnay (96JS/94JD), dubbed “Montrachet-like” by Jeb Dunnuck, a wine of great balance that’s drinking well now and should continue to do so for the next several years. The 2017 Beringer Private Reserve Chardonnay (96JS/94JD), from what Antonio Galloni calls “an epic vintage in the making,” remains Zachys #1 selling American Chardonnay.

Simply put, Beringer is the American success story that we just cannot get enough of and helped show the world that Napa Cabernet can take on Grand Cru Classé of Bordeaux and that Cali Chardonnay can take on Premier Cru Burgundy for a fraction of the price. Jacob Beringer bought the original and iconic St. Helena property on September 3, 1875 for a mere $14,500. The family-driven winery survived the prohibition years selling 15,000 cases of “altar wine” and despite its enviable growth and success, has manage to maintain its integrity, quality and consistency across all wines, especially when it comes to the winery’s Private Reserve label! We’re featuring this American classic from the 140-year-old win-ery in celebration of Zachys 75 years alongside some of our other favorite American-made Char-donnays, perfect for your holiday entertaining and dining with friends and family.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

96 Points, James Suckling: “Freshly squeezed nectarines, dried jasmine, orange blossom, vanilla,

peach flan, dried mangoes, jack fruit and plenty of bread dough. Full body, a very round and oily

mouthfeel, expansive and commanding acidity and a long finish. Drink now or hold.” 05/19

ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: For Burgheads and Pinot Noir fans alike, the debut of the Résonance Vineyard was easily the most eagerly awaited release of the noble varietal on American soil since Domaine Drouhin landed in Oregon and released their inaugural bottle in 1988. Since that time, Bur-gundy’s iconic names of Dominique Lafon (Evening Land), Louis-Michel Liger-Belair (Chapter 24, Rose & Arrow), and Jean-Nicolas Méo (Nicolas-Jay) have quietly been lured to America’s prized region for Pinot Noir: Oregon’s Willamette Valley. However, no arrival has been as anticipated as that of the iconic Maison Louis Jadot and their beloved winemaker of 43+ years, Jacques Lardière. Not only does this further validate the promise of the Willamette Valley, it brings Burgundy’s finest and historic touch to the region!

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

(93 Points, Josh Raynolds, Vinous) 94 Points, Christopher Deas, Zachys Buying Team: “For Zachys,

the more precise and balanced 2016 is the finest release to date from Jacques on American soil. It is cleaner

and leaner, all about freshness, inner energy, with a unique savory quality to the wine – umami is not a

stretch discriptor here. There are light nuances of red and black fruits - raspberries, blackberries, plum,

dried cherries, and mulberries, along with crushed flowers, a touch of Willamette pine and wild herbs,

cinnamon, salinity, and chalky minerality. The wine is light on its feet, with both the texture and acidity

screaming Burgundy and that fruit profile quietly saying Oregon – it truly is the blend of both worlds.””

SOUTH AMERICAN RECOMMENDATIONS: | REG $ SALE $

BODEGA CHACRA RECOMMENDATIONS: | REG $ SALE $

2016 Cheval des Andes2018 Bodega Chacra ChardonnayZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: It has been an exciting fall for the wines of South America with the release of 2016 Clos Apalta (99JS/96WA), 2017 Almaviva (100JS/94+WA), and 2017 Seña (99JS/96+WA). But what we love about the Zachys Signature Selection, 2016 Cheval des Andes (99JS/97+WA/97De), is the relative value it offers next to its prestigious neighbors. From its historic site in the heart of Mendoza, Argentina, the estate is the 20-year project of the team behind Bordeaux’s famed Château Cheval Blanc and takes its name from the series of terraces at the foot of the Andes mountains with altitudes ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 feet. This challengingly high altitude, with drastic day and night temperature differences, delivers the wine’s unique aromatic complexity, refined character, and age-ability, and in the atypically-cool 2016 vintage, the estate has hit a home run.

Why should you buy the 2016 Cheval des Andes? Not only is the wine made by the highly re-spected Franco-Argentine team with over 200 years of expertise, this bottling comes from 100% low-yielding old vines of Luján de Cuyo (first planted, ungrafted, in 1929) - making it the true Grand Cru of the Andes. In 2016, the wine has received its highest rating to date from James Suckling, The Wine Advocate, Vinous, and Jancis Robinson. And what we love best, at just $74.99, the 2016 Cheval des Andes (99JS/97+WA) represents the greatest value among the recent releases from South America.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

97+ Points, Luis Gutierrez, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: “The new vintage to be released

in September 2019 is the 2016 Cheval des Andes, which was cropped from a completely unusual

year—cooler than the average and with an exceptional amount of rain (around 600 liters), yet the wine

has achieved exceptional freshness. It’s 13.9% alcohol, and there’s more red fruit on the nose, which

is subtle and elegant, a little closed at first, shy and subtle. They have done great adjustments in the

élevage, with the wine matured in 30% to 40% 400-liter barrels and only some 40% new wood.

It’s 58% Malbec (approximately 50/50 from Luján and Valle de Uco, where they have 15 hectares

in Altamira), 37% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. This has less structure than the 2015,

but there’s more tension; this is a wine that should develop beautifully in bottle. This is a vintage of

precision and with great aging potential. I think this wine is the most elegant produced so far. Bravo!

64,000 bottles produced.” 08/19

ZACHYS SIGNATURE SELECTION NOTES: It’s the best kept secret in Burgundy – but it’s not in Bur-gundy. It is in fact a new chapter for the noble varietal from old vine biodynamic Chardonnay (and Pinot Noir) that challenges the prized crus of Burgundy. Whether you are a wine enthusiast or collector, Bur-gundy and Italian, alike, this is hands down one of the most eagerly awaited projects and releases! Piero Incisa della Rocchetta and his beloved Bodega Chacra estate, have partnered with the white Burgundy Maestro, Jean-Marc Roulot, to deliver a completely unique expression of pure, bio-dynamic driven Char-donnay from the wind-swept plains of the Rio Negro Valley in Patagonia. They are true revelation wines that make you rethink the most noble of grapes - finesse driven wines that will satisfy the Burghead and pure white wine enthusiast that appreciates energy and tension to accompany ripe fruit and salinity, with just the right tad of oak.

There are two new Chardonnays, the village level Bodega Chacra Mainque Chardonnay and the more site-driven, and prized lieu-dit like wine, 2018 Bodega Chacra Chardonnay (98JS/96ZBT). For the later, the phantom-like, 50 cases are making their way to New York’s top restaurants from Legacy to Eleven Madison and we are pleased to present this flagship. But it does not end with Chardonnay here. The three Pinot Noirs of Bodega Chacra (Barda, Cincuenta y Cinco, Treinta y Dos) have each become household names and signatures at Zachys – in fact, they our best-selling Pinot Noirs. The wines for us are among the finest expressions of Pinot Noir outside of Burgundy and have been one of the great insider tips from the noblest of varietals over the past ten years. Once again, the critics really took notice here of these artisanally produced, old-vine, pre-phylloxera Pinots from Piero Incisa della Rocchetta and the unique terroir in Patagonia.

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY:

(98 Points, James Suckling) 96 Points, Christopher Deas, Zachys Buying Team: “Tasted three

times. This is truly an exciting new chapter in for Chardonnay and Bodega Chacra. Piero has opened

our eyes, and ears, to Pinot Noir from Patagonia, and now with Jean-Marc Roulot, he is doing it with

Chardonnay. And while a mere 600 bottles of the Chacra Chardonnay are heading to New York’s top

restaurants. is not your typically warm fruit bomb from the South or New World, it is quite the op-

posite. Each has the signature Roulot cut of freshness, purity, and salinity and Piero’s concentration

without extraction – a mouthful of fruit, but incredibly light on its feet. You can expect to find nuances

of lemon curd, lime, green apples, sweet corn, fleur del sol - delicate touches, not what you would

expect from the dessert and temperatures reaching the 128 degree mark. There is brightness with

the ripeness and texture, just enough tension to separate and put this wine in a league to itself. An

absoulutely stunning effort (if you can find it). Bravo.”
