Needs for different types of protection affected the

development of new materials and technological methods

of joining.

Garments designed for specific applications, like

protective clothing against rain and wind, are mostly made

of artificial polymeric materials.

The market increase the use of polyurethane-coated

textiles (high durability and versatility).

The development of artificial polymer materials generated

the development of a new manufacturing method.

The best known methods applied in the clothing

industry are:

Joining with sewing seams

Thermal joining

Ultrasonic welding

High-frequency welding

Impermeability of the joined place is equally important as the

impermeability of the material for the waterproof clothing.

Test samples are joined using the technique of high-frequency

welding.

To satisfy standard requirements and handle the cutting parts more

easily, the layers are prejoined on a universal sewing machine.

Each damage of the polymeric material may influence product

quality.

In the manufacture of protective clothing it is necessary to

minimize damages resulting from the technological sewing

process.

The results obtained provide an insight into the damages,

therefore it is possible to reduce material damages by proper

harmonization of the factors of needle sizes and needle tip

form, thread fineness, number of material layers, sewing speed,

material type and surface coating.

To select the best parameters, it is necessary to do further

tests, and by comparison of the results obtained the appropriate

sewing needle type and size for the used material can be

determined.
