TRINITY SUNDAY COLLEGE GRADUATE RECOGNITION SUNDAY

Zebulon Baptist Church June 7, 2020, 10:15 a.m.

The Spirit will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance, all that I said to you. —John 14:26

PRELUDE — “As the Deer” ………………………………………………………….. arr. Hayes SCRIPTURAL CALL TO WORSHIP……………………...……………………. John 14:25-27 THE CHIMES OF THE HOLY TRINITY HYMN OF PRAISE — “God of Dawn, Each Day’s Renewal” .…. Dobson-Zundel God of dawn, each day’s renewal brings the world into Your light, As Your sun defeats the shadows, drives away the darkest night. We would greet this new beginning as Your call to start again, Lead us on with hope and courage, make Your will and purpose plain.

Christ, You walked the world as we do, knew its human pain and loss, As Your love broke through the barriers by Your death upon the cross. We still speak Your gospel message, though two thousand years have gone. Help us now translate its meaning in this present world of wrong.

Holy Spirit, inspiration, light and truth and root of prayer, As Your challenge moves us forward taking us we know not where; We will follow Your direction, though the way may not be clear. Shape us, change us, recreate us, so the future holds no fear.

Praise to God, who spoke creation, giving life to time and space. Praise to Christ, whose living presence showed the world Your human face. Praise the Spirit, daily witness to Your ever loving way.

Take us now and reawake us, challenge us to use this day. RESPONSIVE LITANY FOR TRINITY SUNDAY Leader: The Word, You spoke, and keep speaking, O God, People: Is the life, the sustenance, of all that is — seen and unseen. Unison: Let us praise, God the Creator, who is filled with glory and power, with holiness and splendor! Leader: The Life, You gave and keep giving, O Christ, People: Is the recreation, the renewed birth, of every broken, wounded and sinful creature. Unison: Let us worship, God the Savior, who is filled with love and compassion, with justice and peace! Leader: The breath You breathed, and keep breathing, O Spirit,

YOUTH NEWS

JOURNEYS — We are back meeting in the Blue Room from 7:00-9:00 on Wednes-days! This Wednesday June 10, we will start our time of prayer with prayer walks. See you at 7:00 in the Blue Room.

ZBC YOUTH PROM — Friday, June 26 from 8:00-11:00 p.m., we will hold a Prom for all of the youth and their guests in the Fellowship Hall. We will enjoy dancing and music, have a photographer to capture pictures of our youth, and refreshments. Youth will need to purchase a ticket by Sunday, June 21 for $5.00 for themselves and any guests they plan to bring. We welcome friends and guests to attend with our youth.

BE TOGETHER WEEK— July 8-12 the ZBC youth group will be hosting an experience called “Be Together.” This will combine some of our traditional experiences of Pass-port Camp, but also have some new activities as well. Sign-up will begin Sunday, June 7 and conclude Sunday, June 21. To sign up, the youth’s parents will need to complete the registration form that will be shared (starting June 7) on the ZBC Youth Instagram, Facebook, and church website. They will also need to turn in $125 to the church office. This will help cover the cost of food, activities, and t-shirts.

WORSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUTH — On Sunday, June 14, the youth are invited to Sunday School at 9:00 a.m. in the Blue Room and to attend worship in the Sanc-tuary. We will also have lunch to follow in the Blue Room.

PRESCHOOL AND CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES During the month of June our Facebook Live StoryTime schedule will stay the same — Mondays 10:00 a.m. for Nursery & Preschool and 10:30 a.m. for K-3; Wednesdays 7:30 p.m. for Nursery & Preschool and 7:45 p.m. for K-3. In addition to these times, there will be an In-Person Storytime at church for both of these groups. On Tuesday, June 16 at 10:00 a.m., Nursery and Preschool children and parents are invited to come to the Fellowship Hall for StoryTime, and on Tuesday, June 23 at 10:00 a.m., K-3 is invited to come to the Fellowship Hall for StoryTime. We have plenty of room to spread and enjoy seeing each other! Please let Shannon know if you have any questions.

SPIRITUAL FORMATION HIGHLIGHTS Prayer Service, June 14, 12 noon, ZBC Sanctuary — “Prayer is not asking. Prayer is putting yourself in the hands of God, at His disposition, and listening to His voice in the depth of our hearts.” — Mother Teresa On Sunday, June 14 at 12 noon, we will have a time of prayer in the Sanctuary. The service will take place in three parts. The first section will be “Lament,” fol-lowed by “Petition,” and ending with “Thanksgiving and Praise.” There will also be time for silent prayer. Following the days of uncertainty and unrest we have recent-ly lived, this will be an opportunity to bring our sorrows, uncertainties, and any fears to God; seek God’s forgiveness; pray for God’s guidance and praise God’s name. The service will be brief (around 40 minutes), and because we must limit our participation, we ask that you sign up by calling the office at 919-269-7329 or email [email protected]. Our limit will be 50 participants, and we will observe good social distancing. Meditation — Tomorrow, June 8, we will have our meditation service via Facebook Live at 8:30 a.m. If you have a Facebook account, simply log in and search for Linda Pearce Griffin or Lynn McLaughlin on Monday morning and the live stream will be there. Next week we will meet in the Courtyard (weather permitting). Sunday School Update — Beginning in July, we will begin having Sunday School again, though we will likely do that by having two sessions (the way we did when we renovated the sanctuary). One group will meet in their Sunday School classes while one group is worshiping, and then the groups will change places. Between now and then if you would like to convene your Sunday School class for a Bible Study at ZBC, you may do so by scheduling a time and date through me (so we can monitor the number of persons we have on campus at one time). Social distancing should be practiced by any and all groups meeting at the church. Please note, Sunday morning is not available for open scheduling in June. Please read the article in the bulletin for more details or contact me. I am happy to answer ques-tions. Experiencing God — Christian Mysticism is "experiencing" the presence of God. The practice can include contemplation, vision meditation, and/or devo-tion. It is based on personal experience and not on church doctrine. Historically, the trouble has been that what one person may see as a true experience with God, another may see as heresy. And yet, the words of the mystics persevere to this day and still resonate with many searching for a deeper experience of God. On Monday June 29 at 6:30-8:00 p.m., you are invited to gather outside build-ing D, near the covered area (weather permitting) to consider some thoughts of two medieval mystics Meister Eckhart and Julian of Norwich. We will read quotes, re-spond with our own ideas, questions or critique and perhaps learn a different way of experiencing God’s presence. This opportunity is open to the first 12 who sign up by calling the office at 919-269 7329 or email [email protected]. Don’t forget to bring a chair! Did you know that God’s throne is established on a foundation of righteousness and justice (Psalm 89:14)? Stay tuned for an opportunity, later this summer that will help us to build our faith on these twin towers of God.

FAITH AND COVID-19 DISCUSSION GROUPS We are offering two opportunities for in-person conversation at church for adults. The small groups are limited to the first 12 persons to sign up. We will meet in front of Building D, weather permitting, where we enjoyed “Sweet Tea and Theology” last summer. Bring your own lawn chair and set it up six feet or more from the nearest participant. One group will take place tomorrow night, June 8, and the second group will be next Sunday night, June 14, with both groups begin-ning at 6:30 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m. Call the church office at 919-269-7329 or email the office at [email protected] to register for one of the groups. Jack Glasgow will facilitate these conversations. We will talk about how we have viewed and experienced God in this crisis — the questions that we have pondered, the blessings we have experienced, the fears we have faced, and the changes we believe may be in store for Christians and congregations.

SANCTUARY CHOIR ICE CREAM SOCIAL NEXT SUNDAY Members of the Sanctuary Choir are invited to enjoy homemade ice cream together in the Fellowship Hall next Sunday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. We look for-ward to being together and talking about using soloists, duets, trios, and quartets in worship through the summer and will also consider the hopeful idea that we can get back to rehearsals and ministry as a full choir later this fall. Please come out and enjoy the ice cream, fellowship and conversation. We miss our choir and its worship offerings that bless us week by week, and we look forward to when they can sing together safely and continue their fine ministry.

OUR WORSHIP GUESTS IN THE SANCTUARY Each week in June we are inviting groups fifty or less to be present in worship. This morning our college graduates and their families are with us in the sanctuary. Next week our youth will enjoy Sunday School at 9:00 a.m. and be in the Sanctuary for worship and enjoy lunch after worship. On June 21, any families wishing to participate in our Parent/Child Dedication Service will be in the Sanctuary on Father’s Day. Finally, on June 28 Coed IV will have Sunday School in the Fellowship Hall, and then be present for worship. We are hopeful that beginning in July we will find a way to invite all who wish to attend church on Sunday mornings to partici-pate in a healthy way. We will let you know more details about possibly having two sessions of worship and two sessions of Sunday School on Sunday mornings as we get closer to July.

PARENT/CHILD DEDICATION ON FATHER’S DAY On June 21 we will dedicate newborn children in the past year as their parents present them in the Sanctuary as part of our worship and live stream that day. If you would like to participate in person in this service on Father’s Day, please con-tact the church office no later than Wednesday, June 17, by calling 919-269-7329 or emailing [email protected]. If you have questions about the service or the nursery for that day, please contact Shannon Speller or Jack Glasgow.
