Klabb 3-16 has also been busy delivering online activities for Early years and Pri-
mary Children. From physical activities to crafts and science experiments, play-
workers put their creative minds together in trying their best to engage the chil-
dren that are usually at the centre between 2.30pm and 6.00 pm.
Here are some photos that parents shared with us. Children loved participating in
such hands-on activities, and, we just love watching them create. Here is the
proof.
Though Mother’s Day was celebrated somewhat differently this year, children’s
creativity was not short of ideas, as it is every year. Children shared with us
different crafts and cards as a way to say thank you to their mothers and guardians
on this special day.

In May, the Childcare Centre Coordinators, along with their staff, have been busy
uploading three video clips daily showing various activities where children could car-
ry out with the assistance of their parents. These consisted of story telling, nursery
rhymes or a life skills activity.
We are continuously communicating with those parents whose children attend our
centres. They are following these activities enthusiastically and we are happy to note
that they are implementing them with their children in their homes.
Name : Lindsay Fenech
Age : 26
Role : Centre Coordinator, San Gwann
What is your role in Klabb 3-16 and how long have been employed at the Klabb?
I have been working with FES for the last couple of years. Last November, I became the Centre Coordinator at San Gwann Cen-tre. Together with the help of other team members, I coordinate the centre's administrative work. My main goal is that our chil-dren feel happy, comfortable and safe when using our facilities. It is also very important that their parents/guardians feel at home at our centre. All of the staff members work hard to en-sure that the activities delivered to our children are interesting, valuable and appropriate. I am also responsible for the organisa-tion of special activities inside and/or outside the school premis-es.
Why do you like working at the Klabb?
In the past few months, my new position has been very interesting and rewarding. It provided me with the opportunity to meet new people and try new things. I have been working on different projects that allow me to be creative and to continually learn new things.
What are the challenges and satisfaction you face on a daily basis working at the Klabb?
One of the challenges that the administrative team is faced with is the need to acquire new skills and knowledge to be able to perform certain tasks. Occasionally, we get assigned new tasks and we are requested to use and adapt new systems and procedures. However, even though this can be challenging, I feel that I have always received the needed support from the staff members at FES Head Office. I also have the opportunity to meet and discuss with the other Centre Coordinators and I feel that these meetings have helped me gain a better insight on how to deal with certain issues that might arise at Klabb 3-16.
I am mostly satisfied when I see the Playworkers and Child Support Workers, working together as one team, to present the best experience for our service us-ers. I am happy to have so many hard-working and responsible individuals as part of our team.
Tell us a story you remember most whilst working at the Klabb?
One memorable episode is last year's end of Skola Sajf concert. At the time, I worked as a PER. I was so happy and proud of our students. They had been working on their performance for weeks and I was amazed by their originality and commitment. I was very appreciative of the help and guidance of the Playworkers and Child Support Workers. I was also very grateful for the parents' support.

Age: 19
Role : Playworker
How long have you been working in Klabb 3-16 St
Paul’s Bay? What made you apply in the first
place?
I have been working with Klabb 3-16, St Paul’s Bay, for
the past 10 months. The main reason I decided to apply
for this role was because I was sure that it would give me the opportunity to pass
on my positive childhood experiences at school, thanks to my dedicated teachers.
Being part of these young peoples’ enthusiastic smile had encouraged me to con-
firm my application with Klabb 3-16.
Mention a particular story/memory that you still remember to this day
whilst working at the Klabb?
In the past 10 months, I had several memories at Klabb 3-16 which I will treasure
forever. One of my favourite memories is that of a shy student. She used to find it
hard to speak up because she normally relies on her twin sister. By time, I noticed
the pattern of these sisters, I decided that I wanted to help the little girl to start
building independent skills and confidence. Through fun activities, she started to
build trust and confidence, both with her peers and with me. As time went by, she
started communicating on her own and without the need or assurance from her
twin sister.
This story is so treasurable. As one may observe, if you reach out to the children,
they will start trusting you. I am sure that they will be thankful in the near future.
Inspiring motivation behind the work with children
There are several inspiring motivations behind the work with children. For me, the
main motivation is that you see so many smiles on a daily basis. If you are having
a bad day, they can definitely turn your frown into a smile in an instant. Also, be-
ing responsible for the happiness of so many others beyond yourself is my daily
satisfaction, especially when working with children. Being an example of love in its
truest form, is another motivation that, I live for when working with these children.

On the 10th May we celebrated one of the most awaited days of the year,
Mother’s Day. This year w ith a completely different scenario, toddlers
paid tribute to one of the most important person in their lives. The week prior to
Mother’s Day, children got busy designing cards, taking pictures to show their
mothers and guardians their love for them. Here are some of the colourful
submissions children handed in.
Our refurbishment continues, even during our temporary shutdown. Maintenance
work has been carried out at Tghanniqa Childcare Centre, Floriana. We renovated
the centre with colourful walls and new curtains. We are getting ready to welcome
children again in our refurbished centre.
ECDAM
The Foundation for Educational Services is registered as a member of the Early Childhood Development Association of Malta ( ECDAM). This association provides
monthly lectures on various topics that address the needs of the child in his / her early development.
The Foundation for Educational Services has recently produced a short video showcasing all the work being done by the Child-care Centres staff during these circumstances. It was shown during an ECDAM event and it was very well received. We have received many beautiful and encouraging comments
from all participants.

KARL VELLA FOUNDATION
Karl Vella Foundation (KVF) was established in May 2014 to provide educational
and psychological support to children, aged between 5 and 17, who had experi-
enced disruption in their lives due to a serious illness of or loss of a close family
member. KVF Centre is situated in the President’s Kitchen Garden, Attard.
Recently, an MOU was signed between FES and KVF whereby FES is sponsoring
three playworkers to assist the children with their homework and during the
psycho-educational activities.
Although KVF’s Centre is temporarily closed due to COVID-19, all services are
still being offered remotely. One-to-one sessions with children and with their
legal guardians as well as group therapy sessions are also being conducted
online by mental health professionals. Notwithstanding the current situation,
KVF is still able to create a warm and welcoming environment where children
can express themselves freely and feel part of a supportive and caring
community.
The services offered by KVF, including transport, are free of charge.
