1. Background

A popular application of the Zenturo® panels is the installation of the panels as a “double skin”, which enables the customer to create a filled gabion wall

Betafence’s professional customers requested a professional post system, which increases the system’s rigidity and enables

an easier and faster installation.

Hence, Betafence has developed a new post concept:post concept:

For 2010, the proposed post system consists out of 2 adjacentBekaclip postsdiam 60mm withBekafor collars(= “DIY” solution).


2.1.1 PostsThe new post is composed out of the following elements :

- a rectangular tube- with specific spider fixators

Specifications:

Posts : - rectangular tube with cross section 120 x 40 mm- plate thickness 2.00 mm- in- and outside galvanised (275 g/m² both sides combined) - plastic coated (polyester) : min. 60 micron - colour: metallic anthracite BF7016M- I/V (resistance) : 17,34 cm³- with inserts M6 at both sides

Spider fixators:- steel spider fixator- hot dip galvanised and polyester coated- colour : metallic anthracite BF7016M- fixation to the post by means of

* stainless steel security hexagon bolts M6x40* stainless steel washers M6

(included in the packaging)

2.1.2 Post capEach post is foreseen with a plastic post cap.

Specifications- cap for post cross section 120 x 40 mm- injection moulded piece- core coloured in black- pre-installed to the post

2.1.3 Distance holderIn order to avoid bending of the panels due to the weight of the gabion infill, the use of distance holders is a must. Specific distance holders have been developed which are fullycompatible with the new Zenturo® posts.

The new Zenturo® post concept and its fixation system are developed for installation of

Zenturo panels, as double skin, for the creation of a filled gabion wall.

The posts are compatible with the following Zenturo® panels :

The installation of the Zenturo panels to the new Zenturo® post is very easy.

1. The gabion fence is installed according to the “panel/post/panel”-principle !

� No preliminary installation of the posts is required !

2. The panels can be easily fixed to the post by screwing the spider fixators on the post, in the foreseen inserts

A filled gabion wall does not let through wind!

In order to avoid damages & injuries caused by accidents, please :

1. Evaluate if the project location is not subject to strong windsA filled Zenturo® wall of 200x200 cm (= maximum panel size) - installed with this new post concept -resists a full frontal windload impact of 120 km/h.

2. Make certain the posts are sufficiently dug into the ground and anchored with concreteRespect the concrete foundation sizes!

3. Never exceed the maximum height of the wall of 200 cm200 cm = maximum Zenturo® panel height

4. Never install the wall on a base plate!

Dig holes

1) Dig holes of a minimum - 40 x 60 cm x 50 cm deep (wall height ≤ 1550 mm) - 40 x 60 cm x 70 cm deep (wall height > 1550mm)at a c/c distance of 203 cm.

2. Make a trench, at least 5 cm deep between the holes. The width of the trench must at least be equal to the distance that will be provided later between the panels.

3) Fill the trench with concrete, gravel, rubble granulate, stabilized sand, cobbles, old tiles, etc.

STEP 1



Erect the first post & fix the panels

1) Put the 1st post in the 1st hole & pour a little dry concrete. 2) Attach the first 2 adjacent panels (1a /1b) to the post, fix them with the spider fixators.3) Support the panels with a wood block or stone. 4) Check with a spirit level if the wall is completely horizontal & perpendicular.5) Completely fill the 1st hole with concrete and stamp the concrete firmly.

TIP Leave the smallest distance possible between the bottom of the panels and the filled trench.

Put 2nd post and next 2 panels

1) Put the 2nd post in the 2nd hole & pour a little dry concrete.2) At the wall front side, simultaneously fix panels 1a and 2a to the 2nd post with the fixators.3) At the wall back side, simultaneously fix panels 1b and 2b to the 2nd post with the fixators.4) Support the panels 2a & 2b with a wood block or stone.5) Check with a spirit level if the wall is completely horizontal & perpendicular. Now fill the 2nd

hole with concrete and stamp the concrete firmly. 6) Continue in the same way for all other panels …

Install distance holders

In order to avoid bending of the panels due to the weight of the gabion infill, the use of distance holders (anchors) is a MUST.

The distance between the anchors is - both in the vertical and horizontal direction - : • +/- 50 cm for a light weight filling (wood bark, twigs, bamboo) • +/- 30 cm for a heavy weight filling with other materials (all stone fillings, …).

TIP Always place the anchors around the welds of the panels

Filling the opening between 2 panels

After allowing the concrete to dry, the filling of the wall can be started:1. provide a first row of anchors at the very bottom of the panel.2. put a 2nd row of anchors above the first row 3. fill the wall until just below the 2nd row of anchors4. provide a third row of anchors and fill again until just below it5. continue in this way until the wall is filled up completely. 6. certainly also provide a row of anchors at the top of the wall.

Filling the opening between 2 panels

Choose a hard filling that is larger than the largest mesh size:• frost free filling: cobbles / hard limestone / lava / brick / broken concrete / glass / ...

• other natural materials: logs / slices of wood / coconut shells / bamboo / ...

• If opting for a filling that is smaller than the largest mesh size (e.g. bark), close the largest meshes (100x100 mm) with Zenturo® filling (pixels, Flexo strip or Perfo strip)

• or attach Casanet® mesh to the inside of the panels

INSTALLATION

� No installation skills are required. The installation of the total panel fence system is

very easy : fixation of the panels to the posts by simply screwing the spider fixators in

the post (inserts are foreseen) !

� The number of required tools for installation is limited to a minimum

� The installation is done according to the “panel/post-principle” and does not

require pre-installation of the posts in concrete (= time loss).
