Personal Statement
Applicant: Zhang Yujia
Doing Jewellery study and occupying myself in that area have long been my
dream since I enrolled in university campus. Feeling that your respectable
university is famous for the major, therefore, I am writing to apply for it
based on my exceedingly attachment to it and that is just what my interest
lies in.
Concerning my application reasons, first, I was quite interested in jewellery
since I was a little girl and made various handicrafts. My parents always
brought me various fragmentary presents, which I often combined them
and separated them so as to change their appearance. I still remembered
that I made a ring by glass marbles and iron wire. In addition, I also once
wove a simple bracelet by knitting wool and tied up pepper in it. My mother
was profoundly impressed by the present. Later, I made a necklace by anise
and lantern chili as well as a ladle. When I grew up, I once made a party
mask by polymer clay with many sequins and beads. Perhaps, my interest
in jewelry is aroused in little things. Once, I enrolled in Beijing City University,
majoring in Art Design (Jewellery Design), I firmly convince that I am
suitable for the area and will continue my study in the field. As the saying
goes, “Interest is the best teacher”.
With respect to my future career planning, I am determined to become a
designer. Through my work and exquisite craftsmanship, I would like to
express my life and embellish other’s life. To be an excellent designer, I will
collect various materials and excellent artistic capacity. Hence, I should
learn more advanced craftsmanship and widen my horizon. I believe that
the artistic creativity can be tempered during my postgraduate studies.
Indeed, I have got excellent results during my undergraduate studies, the
score of Jewellery Design and Technology Foundation was 91 points while
Garments Accessories Design was 91 points as well. In the meantime, I have
already accumulated various practical experiences. Once, I acted as a
designer assistant in a jewelry company and learnt some related skills, such
as freehand sketching. Also, I served as a sales personnel in jewelry shop
and understood requirements of jewelry industry, such as purchase object,
price and jewelry types. Those activities build up the manner of dealing with
people and better improve myself.
Based on what I have learnt and the fruitful practical experiences, I want to
further my study in your reputed university in order to improve my
specialized knowledge and broaden my horizon in that area. I also know
that your university is famous for applied major. Therefore, I have well
prepared to be an adaptable student at your university; I am equally
convinced that with your guidance I will play a part in life contribution to
my favorable profession. I therefore await your careful consideration of my
application for admission with high hopes.

I’m studied my bachelor’s degree in forth year in Beijing City University in
China, and my research area is jewelry design and theory.
I would like to have an opportunity to stay in a different country from homeland;
therefore, I would be able to experience new life, new culture, and people.
As a result, I would be able to understand people’s needs more sensitive,
develop and innovate the jewelries from any problems they are experiencing
and satisfy their needs. If I have an opportunity to study abroad, I will combine
such an experience of my life and design. In my works, I ultimate goal is
present my care for other people who really need help. They are very
impressive on me.
Personally, I have affinity, open minded, well at communication, out-going,
independent, and have optimism, full of energy and strong will for what I have
done no matter how hard it is. I have passion for my major and professional
knowledge.
Background
During my study in BEIJING City University, I served as the class cadre and
take an active part in social activities. I learned many arts related courses.
Such as Photoshop, Jewel CAD, freehand sketching, metal-smith, creative
classes, simple films, dressmaking, simple sculpture, pottery and Jewelry
Inlaid Technique. After studied these classes, I really want to research the
jewelry world.
Computer Abilities

Efficient in using Photoshop CS5, specially for image manipulation;
Familiar with Jewel-CAD engineering drawing design;
Efficient in using 3ds Max 9 and Pro/Engineer for 3D model design;
Familiar of using Adobe illustrate
or to engineering drawing design
Efficient in using Office Suit and Internet for information research.
Outline proposal
Memory has been one of the themes of my research, I hope a way to express
memories, which is materialized. Perhaps a tourist experience, maybe just
drink a cup of coffee flavor. Sweet, fear, anger, sadness, happiness. These are
the most precious memories in life.
I want to make a series of jewelry about memory. Because the most distant is
not ten years later, but before today. This is most precious. In my previous
project Memory Box. I made a memory box. And then，now，I want to go on the
further research using different material, to create different effects.
Everybody has memories, making jewelry could be unique, each person's
exclusive custom. Memory and is not related to age. So I bold imagination，
Perhaps there will be a lot of people like my design.
Development
I don't think my work in the future, what is the significance to society, but if
someone is willing to appreciate, that my work is to live. And my passion for
jewelry, will support I continue to work hard.
Research
There are many types of memory of expression. A video, photo, and even may
be a sound, an electrocardiogram.

Everyone can record a sound waves, even capture an electrocardiogram

Different materials have different effects，Metal, glass, acrylic, felt and so on.
The material is what I want to try in the future. Different material collocation
have different effects and the change of light and shadow.
Evaluation

Before the finalized will do a lot of material test and hand-painted manuscript. I
am a careful and patient and enthusiastic people, willing to spend a lot of time
on the preparatory work. I was able to quickly accept new things. I like
innovation and exploration. But sometimes, too bold imagination may cause
some problems. Like process of realizability and wearing comfort. I need a lot
of to learn and improve skill, and I will work on.
